Hello! Did you know I recently released a 97-page book titled The Neocaridina Shrimp Handbook? It covers everything new and experienced hobbyists alike need to know about Neocaridina Shrimp, including Red Cherry Shrimp. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Check it out here 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 fishkeepinganswers.com/neocaridina_shrimp_handbook/
Literally all I keep watching these videos for is the how to package (not so much) but certainly couriers and postage costs. How to include that into your pricing etc, Totally happy to meet you in person to discuss this etc. Super keen.
Hi. Have you watched this video Breeding Shrimp For Profit in 2023 ***PART 2*** How to make money as a shrimp breeder! ua-cam.com/video/aWDRNZkyYfE/v-deo.html I discuss how I package my shrimp for posting. As for postage cost, that varies worldwide, but in the UK we sent EVERYTHING Royal Mail Guaranteed by 1pm service. Hope that helps. 👍🏻
How to package them would be really useful! I'm planning on keeping shrimp for myself to start, then move into selling them once I have a bit more experience with them. Brilliant vid, thank you
Thanks for the straightforward walk through on this. I've been breeding red cherry shrimp of basic quality and have been considering starting to select them. But, like you said, there are a ton of buyers that like to get OK shrimp at a great price and it makes a great starter for them. Great video, thanks!
Absolutely love your knowledge. Please share everything and every step of the process. We can never learn enough. I appreciate you helping with your know how and guiding us to success.
Hey there been down the rabbit hole of shrimp content i gotta say I love the no nonsense approach and simplicity in your video style, Im just starting my journey with blue neocardina and so far so good ! Any tips you have for me ? Would be very appreciated.
Thank you for the feedback. Glad you are enjoying the videos. My number one tip for blue Neocaridina shrimp would be to try and create an environment that is stable. Better to have a stable environment that is less than perfect than to be constantly changing things in the aquarium in the pursuit of perfection 👍🏻
Fluval Stratum is a great substrate for growing plants. It won’t do anything to help with water quality. The manufacturers say something like ‘it helps stabilise pH’ but I have never found there is much difference between my tanks that do and don’t have Stratum
Did huge reset last night to try to get rid of scuds lol used hot water on the rocks hopefully the dead snails and whatever in the rocks don't make a ammonia spike after a week !
I'd be interested in hearing more about shrimp life cycles and what to expect in terms of ''yield'. How much time it takes a batch of mature adults to produce a new generation fit for sale. At what age are shrimp considered to have reached their ''full potential'' in terms of profit. Although this might be a question for more advanced setups, I'd also be interested in culling techniques/strategies! Thankss love the channel!
Hi Richard. Quick question where would you recommend buying polystyrene boxes from please for posting. I've looked everywhere but not had much luck. Cheers and fantastic videos btw
Hi. Poly boxes can be expensive because they don’t ship well. I would call into your local fishmongers, pet shop, restaurants and take away places as well as supermarket. All these places get deliveries in polystyrene boxes and will probably be happy for you to take them away 👍🏻
You can buy used aquasoil. This is the best substrate for shrimp. It does not change the water parameters if it is more than 1.5 years old and it should be much cheaper. 10+ years ago i had some chinese version of aquasoil in my main aquarium for 2 years and then i transfered it to the shrimp tank. Amazing results. Since then i tried with ada and tropica and it does wonders compared to sand/gravel/crushed lava... 2 of those clay tubes for breeding L's per tub would also increase productivity + it would be easy to collect them - just take out the tube with shrimp inside. Cover with java moss and tie with fishing line.
I would love more videos on this topic! I started a beginner tank for RCS and ghost shrimp and have had so much success that I’ve decided to get more species in the near future and breed them for profit. Right now I’m selling the RCS and getting enough traction that I’m making business cards 😂 tips on actually selling and packaging them would be much appreciated 😅😊
Hi! Isn’t it easier for the whole breeding process to use a sump system for the tanks? (Faster water changes and more beneficial bacterias - also may be cheaper).

Hi, could you go over strategies of moving shrimp inventory and what are some realistic expectations when it comes to production and associated space and assets. Thanks!
Hi. I only switched over to glass tanks for filming as the tubs are rubbish to film. If I wasn’t doing UA-cam, I’d have stuck with the tubs. They are awesome 👍🏻
mate thanks so much for this video. Looking forwards to follow up videos. Could you also include information about grades/culling does it matter etc etc in selling shrimp? I am just a hobbyist, but I started with 20 cherry shrimp for the kids, but I'm at well over 400 shrimp... and pooling into other tanks. I don't want to kill them, and I'm not sure what to do with them. Some have gone a touch orange, and I have started separating out the brownish blue ones to their own tank. I have a 'strain' which has a red head and tail, with transluscent body and legs with deep red feeding arms which I really like and have begun trying to breed more of.

Hey Bro, I have a cold water breeding tank no heater. I am still deciding whether to breed red cherry shrimp or white cloud mountain minnows. What do you think I should breed that is profitable, I am beginner at this?
@FishKeepingAnswers thank you, im still waiting for the tank to mature and develop biofilm and algae. It has been 2 weeks now since I set it up, just patiently waiting, 54 litres aquarium.
@@FishKeepingAnswers riccia moss* sorry and that’s okay it looks just like Java. And clumps up like it my shrimp have been hiding in it. Found aload of babies whilst I was moving my tank last night

I've got about 40 of a 50lb bag of pool filter sand that I've used in some of my display tanks, would that work or is gravel the way to go in terms of the best success?
Provided its clean, it will work a treat. here in the UK we don’t tend to have a ready supply of pool filter sand, so we often use children’s play sand which is fine and clean. Works really well 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers awesome, good to know that's some money I can save. I've FINALLY, just the other day, seen my first little shrimplets in my display shrimp tank, so I'm probably gonna get some tubs to attempt a breeding project of different colors. I swear, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I seen a few of those little guys grazing on the glass for the first time.
I would leave the tank for a couple of weeks, but that time can be adjusted with experience. There are so many variables to take into account it is very difficult to say ‘leave a tank X days before adding shrimp’.
@@FishKeepingAnswers any issues with labelling it as LIVE ANIMALS or is it best just to write fragile and send it off Thanks for the reply by the way just discovered your channel and binging through all your videos haha
I agree “starter” shrimp are best for new breeders, aka starters. I have only ever bred an sold clear/glass/crystal neos myself. The shipping loss doesn’t really apply in here the U.S. though. It’s either insured or the buyer’s problem.
Hey 😊 Was a great video & good info. But didn’t talk about what water they like & do best in I pretty much know but like to hear what other think & why. In my experience, little and often is better than lots in one go. Maybe one or two small feeds a day. That is a great question. 🤔 I bet if you kept the tank totally in the dark, you would still grow some biofilm, but it would lack any form of algae. However, I know for a fact algae can grow strongly even with just the ambient light coming in from the windows.
What about quality of shrimps? I keep seeing semi transparent red cherry shrimps as offspring of my pretty high grade Sakuras. Its annoying becouse i dont have room for another tank to separate those low quality shrimps. What would you recommend? I can't sell uglier transparent shrimps, ppl want completely red cherry shrimps for their money.
Hi Richard! Could you send me the text u used in your advertisements? I'm also curious to know what is on the paper you include to your package. Love your work! Greetings from Holland!
I've been following your tips with great result. I recently made a 5,000 liter tank. the problem right now is my tank became a mosquito breeding tank. also I think shrimp tank doesn't need a tall tank. from what I've notice is a 1-2 foot deep tank is enough. deep tank is okay if they have a lot of plants and underwater structure like driftwood to perch on.
@@FishKeepingAnswers my tank is from old oil container from vegetable oil refinery. they're throwing them out by the hundreds. I had to pile cinder blocks inside because its too tall. like 10 feet tall. shrimps like to live inside hollow cement blocks.
@@FishKeepingAnswers just update. Watch out for dragonfly nymphs. They're ferocious predator for shrimps. Especially if you have an outdoor tank like mine.
@@FishKeepingAnswers do you believe that it's still worth something getting into? Seems interesting not sure what the market is like in my area but cool none the less
I do believe it is still worth it, but I work full time, and it got to the point where I had to wake up 3 or 4 hours before I went to work to start packing the shrimp. It was starting to take over my life because we were so busy. 😞
Who are the buyers for these shrimps? If everyone is breeding thousands of shrimps a month, that really saturates the market and also each buyer now can make hundreds themselves.
There are three things you need to bear in mind. 1) new people enter the hobby every day looking for their first shrimp. 2) many, many people fail to breed shrimp or worse, kill their shrimp and want to purchase more. 3) the vast majority of hobbyist don’t sell their shrimp, they just let their colony get to a balanced point wheee the population regulates itself 👍🏻
@@jacquesvictor4232I’ve had one amano jump out of the tank out of 3 in my year of owning shrimp. I found him the day after I put them in so idk how long that took or why but the others don’t even leave the bottom of the tank even if the waters up to brim no lid etc. they’re not interested in leaving the water like he was lol. And I have an orange Sakura colony too that I never have losses with outside of some babies becoming Cory catfish food

I can't sell uglier transparent shrimps, ppl want completely red cherry shrimps for their money.
Does UA-cam allow you to put a link to your eBay shop? 🦐👍
Hi. It does. I don’t currently have one for myself as I don’t have any shrimp for sale. 👍🏻
I'm curious: why did you quit breeding and selling shrimp?
Truth be told, to concentrate on UA-cam. Putting out 2 to 3 videos a week and working full time left no time for selling shrimp ☹️
@@FishKeepingAnswers ah, that makes sense.
Can we have a link to your ebay store/items please
How many shrimp for how many gallons?
5 to 10 as a starter 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers thank you 😊 5 to 10 for many gallons?
5,000 liters!!!!!!! Wow 🤩. I agree, 2’ deep is probably the max I would ever use personally 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers my tank is from old oil container from vegetable oil refinery. they're throwing them out by the hundreds. I had to pile cinder blocks inside because its too tall. like 10 feet tall. shrimps like to live inside hollow cement blocks.
Wow! 😎🦐
@@FishKeepingAnswers just update. Watch out for dragonfly nymphs. They're ferocious predator for shrimps. Especially if you have an outdoor tank like mine.
I would love to buy some shrimp from you i am in uk too, can you tell what is your eBay's store?
Hi. Unfortunately I stopped breeding to sell in favour of making UA-cam videos ☹️
@@FishKeepingAnswers anyone that you recommend?
Not really, but I have been looking at Shrimpland.uk recently. Haven’t tried them yet, but they appear to have some nice shrimp in stock.
Do you still breed for profit? If not why did you stop?
Hi. I don’t breed for profit anymore. The only reason I stopped was in favour of making UA-cam videos. 👍🏻
How do u make sure that you always have shrimp to sell?
That’s a great question. Too long to answer in a comment, but I will try and cover it in a video 👍🏻
No one can keep shit alive for a day
Because of idiots like me that kiled all their shrimp and have to buy new ones.
@@jacquesvictor4232how did you kill them?
@@jacquesvictor4232I’ve had one amano jump out of the tank out of 3 in my year of owning shrimp. I found him the day after I put them in so idk how long that took or why but the others don’t even leave the bottom of the tank even if the waters up to brim no lid etc. they’re not interested in leaving the water like he was lol. And I have an orange Sakura colony too that I never have losses with outside of some babies becoming Cory catfish food
Thanks,I also recently started a cherry shrimp youtube channel.Kindly view any of my video and see if they are doing well or not😊
Good luck with your channel. UA-cam is a grind. My only advice, you have a video titled All About Shrimps, but it’s just footage of shrimp, no information or advice. Make sure your video delivers what the title and thumbnail promise. All the best 🤞🏻
I’m confident you are more than capable of breeding “$40 to $50 whatever shrimp” 😊
🙏🏻
Fantastic video
