Rostropovich and Britten had such a special relationship that Rostropovich refused to perform or record this piece with anyone else, for the rest of his life. When Rostropovich was on his deathbed his daughter played this recording, he couldn't speak, tears came out of his eyes. A very special recording indeed!
In music, sometimes we can't say this performance is better than the other. But, when we find the perfect, all the others are far away. This is the perfect record. Always when I listen to a Schubert Arpeggione, I compare to this Rostropovich and Britten performance.
I first heard the Arpeggione performed by Lynn Harrell and James Levine, and held that recording as the perfect and best for years. But oh my - this one is IT. Thank you for posting.
Ultra rare and very collectible duo Rostropovich-Britten LP. Very first made in UK on Decca SXL 6426 WB ED3 Black & Silver ffss Original Stereo Label (third Decca SXL 6000 series label no grooved, but first for this recording), Matrix ZAL 9193-3Y / 9194-5Y, recorded in 1969 by Kenneth Wilkinson at the Maltings and pressed in Decca New Malden plant, Surrey, one of the last UK Decca valve labels. Program: Schubert-Sonata In A Minor For Arpeggione And Piano, D. 821, and Bridge-Sonata For Cello And Piano.
I do not know the Feuermann account, but I have the lp of this. I tend to find that Britten is always an outstanding musician, his Mozart with Curzon is exceptional, so he is both an outstanding pianist and conductor. His four sea interludes are also outstanding.

50년전에 듣고 반해버렸지요 음반지금도가지고 있네요
This performance eclipses all others - by a mile.

@David Rehak / You are so kind.
Great thanks for your efforts.
Rostropovitch toujours aussi impérial et B.Britten miraculeusement en phase avec le violoncelle.Un morceau d’anthologie.
Rostropowitch never played this without Britten again stating that Britten could play Schubert like no one else. He called him Benjik
Rostropovich's daughter claimed that this recording moved her father to tears of joy even on his deathbed.
どの曲も 素晴らしくて 引き込まれてしまいます…
Thank you for posting such a great Arpeggione♡

I've heard the original recording, and this is an outstanding remastering. There used to be so much noise!

Marvelous performance.
Electric Recording Company is making a reissue of this in July 2024. I’m sure that will be so close to the original!

Nobody can rival Feuermann interpretation, however, I think this is by far the best piano accompaniment .
