As someone who has driven a pickup for the last 24 years I am so glad someone finally made a smaller vehicle with truck like abilities but gave it a car like ride and high tech interior. Plus the styling is great, no more boring boxes, everything is sleek and smooth. They sort of fixed the C pillar issue with the blind spot cameras. Did you try Sport mode? that should firm up the steering. Volume knob? Just use the steering wheel controls. The Mav's bed is just 2" longer, however the roll away cover does steal upper space on the SC.
I hate when people compare this SAV to the Cheaper Maverick. This is a Niche SAV for that person who prefers Style and Utility and a Smooth Quiet Ride.
Mike Danger review!!!!!! I personally love the look/features of the Santa Cruz and think it’s way more attractive that the maverick. Best part in my book is those daytime running lights from the Tucson which look amazing. Great review Mike 😁
I agree. I lean more towards the Maverick personally but I think it’s awesome to have two choices in the size range suddenly when we had 0 for many years.
I got the SEL model in green (they call it gray though), after 3 months I got more questions, comments and compliments about the car than any other car I have had, and that includes a Civic Type R.
great job again Mike Danger - ive been a fan of Micah, Zach and Lyn for years and KBB remains my favorite review channel. Im really glad to see your talents added to the team! but why you gotta dog the Scuderia? Its been a tough several years for my Prancing Horse F1 team!
for Mike Danger I really enjoyed your Santa Cruz presentation. One of the best compared to all the others I have watched and I have seen many. keep up the great work, oh yes I may be a little biased since I do own a 22 Santa Cruz Limited, since August. keep up the great work
I checked a maverick the other day and after that it’s hard to justify the Cruz other than the warranty the maverick also has access to Toyota’s transmission technologies and if you know anything about that you know it’s reliable and better than any cvt
I don't know now.. the Santa Cruz is a tough sell as it can't beat the Maverick in what most people are looking for. The warranty and the fact it is assembled in the US are the only pros I can think of Edit - The second sentence when I said “it” is referring back to the Santa Cruz
I cancelled my Santa Cruz Reservation back in December, had to go with the Maverick. The Santa Cruz is a bit too much with it's styling, and the Maverick is going to have more aftermarket parts, etc. But either way, both of these small trucks, add a ton of value and something new to the car market.
Thinking about dumping my reservation as well. It's been delayed 5 times with no explanation totaling almost 3 months. I've nearly missed an entire Michigan winter of being able to use it, it's loaded with bloat that I cant take off, and Hyundai is ignoring all of my emails trying to get more information. I'm starting to distrust the warranty as well. You can claim to have the best warranty, but if your transparency on running your company is complete trash, then I'm not going to trust it.
Love your review, and it is a nice addition to the team. I am aware you've been behind the scenes and you are doing a great job out front, nice presentation, style and the humor is much appreciated. Way to go!
@@yesmikedanger You bet Mike. I find all the KBB videos to be well done especially the videography. I def enjoyed the fact that KBB is diversifying their review staffers and that they were smart enough to move you from behind the scenes to out front and center! Nice!
@@cruisyguy awww thanks man 🥲 yeah I work with a solid team. And fun fact: I’m still doing the camera work for a lot of the videos, including this one! So I appreciate the videography comment 🤝 But when I’m in front of it, Micah and Lyn hop in and work their magic 🪄
Interesting how hundreds of different youtube channels seem to have gotten their hands on some of these. Meanwhile, I just got word mine was delayed for the 5th time, totaling nearly 3 months. No explanation from Hyundai, and nothing but ignored messages. I've yet to see a single one of these on the road, but I've seen several Mavericks. At this point I might as well wait another few months for the next years model, unless Hyundai is willing to knock a few thousand off the price tag. This is so far beyond unacceptable.
Fun fact...I use the steering wheel volume etc. controls even if there's a volume control knob available. Lack of those knobs is not an issue with me at all. Santa Cruz would be my choice here. Give us a hybrid option and that choice would be further cemented. Great review.
The Maverick is still at the top of my list. This thing still only seems like competition for the Ridgeline while the Maverick is still in a class of its own. It feels like you’re finding your groove quickly and you sound more confident in this one, Mike. 👏🏻
When you open the bed half way, it's the same height as the wheel arches. You can then lay a standard piece of plywood across it and have a level shelf with storage above and below it.
Great review Mike! I always wanted to hear your opinion as a fellow tall guy because no one else talks about it! I'm taller and bigger than you at 6'7 and 350 lbs. Do you think I'd fit in the drivers seat of the Santa Cruz? It looks good for you!
Aw man you’re a big guy! Always happy to help giving a “greater” perspective. You know the SC may be a little tight… but i think it’ll be good as long as no one’s in back of you. But a test drive is always the solution! Thanks for watchin, Drew!

I absolutely love my Santa Cruz. I didn't know my c pillar was a blind spot?? Never noticed that. I do wish I got the awd version though. Only way I'd sell or trade it in is if they make an EV or hybrid version.
@@michaelganovski7077 I actually use it as a work truck and when there is weight in the back. FWD kinda just wants to spin the tires and sometimes does. I feel the AWD would balance it out a bit so I don't accidentally get a ticket for peeling out when I'm simply trying to get out into traffic.
Mr. Danger is getting SO GOOD at these car reviews!!! I find the interior of this SAV doesn’t match the rugged, angular look they’re going for with the exterior.
I want Hyundai to put its 1.6turbo hybrid power train in the Cruz...it is definitely more stylish and more premium than Maverick, but most customers for this segment would choose fuel economy and low sticker price over those two
I've used mine to tow my Veloster N to race tracks all over the Midwest. 4000 pounds (tow dolly and car). The Santa Cruz has the same sweet 8 speed DCT that my Veloster has. It tows better in sport mode and you don't have to use the paddles.
Looks wise this looks great! All day long over the Ford. The ford needs a minor face lift and it will be just fine the way it is as a cheap little truck.

But a heated steering wheel is awesome. Ooh, you said Bose audio in Limited? Guess I may have to look at Limited and get extender in back for e-bike. Which also folds to hopefully fit under the rear cover. I’m honked Subaru has missed out on at least 12 years “truck” craze by chopping back off an Outback and installing a bed.
