this video just changed my life i dont even want to admit how i was doing things
Hahah glad it was helpful!
Amazing tips, thanks!
No problem!
Graphics design is my hobbie. I’m only just now learning Fresco. So maybe that’s why I’m so excited to see you explain this stuff. But I really enjoy it.
Good talk. On to your next video I go.
That is awesome! Thanks!!
Hi there, I am looking for a way to create a torn papwer effect in fresco to cut out shapes to make a collage look and feel to my work.Is there a way of doing this? Many thanks Jamie
Hmm I’m sure there’s lots of ways to do this. I’d assume using the lasso selection tool to get the shapes and maybe a brush to get the texture on the edges. Retro Supply Co had a great set of brushes that emulate paper folds/creases/edges that might help. There’s a link below where it says brushes I use.
All your videos make my life easier. Thank you! Contiguous!? I would have never though to select that. Looked it up to see if I was just a dummy and it means - "sharing a common border; touching." Thats not whats happening when you use that! Stop trying to confuse me Adobe!
Haha awesome! I think it’s turning off “contiguous” to fill related things that aren’t touching. But to be honest, I didn’t know what it meant.
Super helpful - - so much great information in so little time... Perfect!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow you have literally changed my life. I wish I had found your video earlier, I could have saved so much time
I love your channel Chris and

So useful. You saved my life
Glad I could help!
The settings and the other icon below my paint bucket tool are both faded out, and I can’t click on them? 1:15
Where did you order the mat you are resting your iPad on? Looked through your my stuff and didn't see any links for it. Appreciate it :)
I imagine this would be the pretty much the same in Procreate?
Lütfen Türkçe dil seçeneği ekleyelim, ücretsiz olduğunu düşünüyorum, neden eklemediğinizi anlamıyorum -
I’ll see what I can do!
I though contiguous was only for magic wand. thx this is so usufull
Chris! just discovered you 😢 but now 😊. Listen I need to see the interface NOT the mat with your art or your entire forearm.
That said you do a pretty good job of explaining reference layers, clipping masks and creating shadows that can then be adjusted via opacity. Thanks!
Hah thanks. It’s tricky, because if I just do a screen recording people want to see the hand movements when I’m drawing things. Maybe I should switch back and forth more. It’s just a lot of work editing and it’s already a struggle balancing this channel with my client work.
@@chris-piascik Sorry for the delay. I do note that in a number of your videos the display screen fills our view. But, seeing 30% of the screen margin devoted the "Matt" just makes it near impossible to see nuanced use of "layers" for clipping and masking
Funny that my style is a lot like yours
I need help. When I turned off contiguous. I tap with a different color. My entire page turned into that color.. why’s that?
You’re either on a different layer, or you need to adjust the color fill margin with the slider that pops up next to your tool bar.
Helllo. Trying Fresco for the first time. Why is my fill bucket settings not activated. Yours work. Mine are grey out. I have a subscription with Adobe. Do you know how to fix that? Thanks.
Hmm that’s strange, definitely wouldn’t have anything to do with having a subscription or not since the free version can do everything. The only time this usually happens is if you are selecting a layer that doesn’t have anything on it, or is a photo layer. If the icon is a picture you’ll need to tap the layer and convert it to a pixel layer.
I think it’s because you’re on a vector layer instead of a pixel layer, fill bucket is grayed out for me too if I’m not on a pixel layer, hope that helps!
Is there a way to have different line colors in the vector lineart? I just bought your brushes, they seem awesome.
Thanks! Are you referring to the outline brushes? If so, yes, in ever brush settings you’ll see 2 colors stacked that you can change.
Loving your videos, so helpful.
So glad to hear! Thank you!
Trying to turn off the ‘contiguous’ fill setting but my fill settings are grayed out and I can’t select it?
Are you working in vector? This only works with pixel based layers.
Thank u for making these videos. They’re helping me a lot
Glad you like them!
Great video today! Will have too keep those tips handy.
Thanks so much!
0:19 'Set as Reference' seems to be not available in my version of Fresco 😢
Weird are you using a placed image? If so, that may be the issue?
2:02, what's that red background??
That's just a pattern I made.
Does it only work for pixel layers?
No it works for vector too.
This function would be even greater if it were available on vector layers!🤬
Wait, it is… or am I forgetting something else from the video?
When the vector brush is selected the functions are grayed out and not available. This is definitely a shortcoming on Fresco because there should be a select "same as color" option. I did a mod layer to change the color of that vector layer but when I tried to open it in Illustrator it converted that layer to low rez pixels instead of retaining the vector.
@@chris-piascik
What brushes did you use for that realistic line work is it Kyle's too smooth?
I do often use that brush, but I think I was using the retro supply co classic inker.
Too bad the color fill trick doesn’t work for vector layers 😢
It seems like some people have more of an issue with that than others. It usually works pretty well for me. Sometimes it looks like it didn’t fill properly but when I zoom in I see it was just a preview thing. The reason the fill margin doesn’t work with vector is because the shapes just butt up against each other based on the points. In order for it to expand it would have to go beyond the lines, which would work with reference layers, though I’m not sure how they could make that work…
Yeah I'm just getting into it myself so I have a lot left to learn about vector work. I had been using Procreate mostly. I love your tutorials! They've been really helpful!@@chris-piascik
Now I could draw waifus with booba shadows
The possibilities are endless!
Dude you are so much help. Thank you!
Glad to hear it!
Clear and get to the key functions thanks you so much
Nice gloves!
😎
Very useful video. ❤ thank you
Glad to hear!
@@chris-piascik I’m learning a lot with your videos 🌟
So cool!🇦🇺❤️
Thank you ☺️
Great tutorial, per the usual!
Thanks so much Selly!
Chris, great video (as usual) and as powerful as Fresco is I just have to scratch my head at the poor support that Adobe provides behind this program. Its sad because I really liked it (Fresco) and was considering biting the bullet and subscribing to their monthly money grab so that I could leverage its amazing tools and potential.
After dancing around with Adobe's terrible support with Fresco's crashing on startup and seeing so many others having similar issues I decided to explore other software solutions. I may revisit Fresco once they fix their issues with version 5 or something but in the meantime rather than rollback to an earlier version as they have suggested for their solution (yeah...kind of lame) I discovered THIS! It's really amazing and its obviously a Procreate knockoff for the Android and Windows side (which is WONDERFUL to see) and unlike Fresco....it is NOT subscription based but rather free. It is not ad free BUT its not obnoxious with that either. My biggest issue with Fresco besides its instability is the fact that the support behind it is awful ,,,and for a continual subscription fee ( for the truly worthwhile features) you get crap support and crashes. Hmmmm,....how does this make good sense and what is the ROI on this expenditure? ZERO. I would pay their silly monthly fee if they reciprocated with all of the things they promise for that money!
Meanwhile.....Chris, you should check this program out: HiPaint www.aige-hipaint.com/
Again,...if any Android folks are subscribed to this channel they too might have a big interest in this Procreate clone.
Glad you liked the video! That’s a bummer you’re having issues with Fresco. If it was unstable for me that would be a dealbreaker too since I use it for my client work. I never have any issues with it crashing even when I’m testing beta versions. Are you running it on windows?
Great video! Thank you for the tips!
Thank you!!
I'm just wondering, what storage option you went for on your ipad? I'm not sure what to choose for the storage size. Would be great if you could give anny advice on this ;)
I went with the 256, but storage space has never really been an issue for me since most of files live within Adobe creative cloud. And Apple’s iCloud.
Thank youu soo muchh for all of your video, thankk youuu
Glad you like them!
Thank you for this! I had no idea about reference layers. Is it possible to use this feature with oil and watercolor?
I believe so!
Do you by any chance know how to? I am only able to utilize the reference layer when using the paint bucket.
Hey I have a question. Awesome video btw, very helpful! But what I saw in my fresco paintings, is that if I use the linework as Reference layer, like you do, I see white/seethrough lines AROUND the lineart, but the middle / the rest will fill in nicely with the paint bucket. It seems to be not closing fully, filling up fully. Any tips for that? (I have the same issue with the "coloring in" option).
Hope you can help!
Have you tried adjusting the fill margin? It’s the slider that pops up when you first tap to fill something.
Also thank you!
Thanks for the reply. @@chris-piascik For me if I open fresco, and have the linework player as reference layer, and on a new layer i start with the paintbucket, it only asks fill in with vector or pixel and I choose vector there. And the options or sliders for the paint is greyed out then. (if i would do pixels, it gives me options. but i want it to be vector because of scalability).
Any suggestions? or do you always paint it in on a pixel layer?
Ah yeah, the margin wouldnt be there for vector. In my experience the halo that you see when using the vector brushes is just a preview thing when working. If you zoom in or export you shouldn't see it. @@LadyAvondrood
Thanks for replying so quickly
This explains how you used the RSCO brushes! I was so confused when I first saw that! Thanks Chris!!
Oh whoops! Glad this clears it up!
