I'd be ready for a nap after that; rain on the tent, the soft roar of the stove, and a hot meal.....the birds sound great, too. Very relaxing!

    Your meal look so delicious.
Where do you get those dry meal.
    I should try them.
    I am a 75years old lady.
I'll make that in the summer
I'll in my balcony when it's raining
And have that meal with a coffee
And pretend that i am in the tent.
    It's a good thing i live in a condo
So there is another balcony ober my head so i won't get wet.
When i was young we did some camping and my brother very young age he did have a tent.
Then wben he had money had a trailer.
Me and my husband always visit.
    We had such good time.
Singing around the fire nice summer night and some brought there guitars.
During the day we when swimming in the lake.
We had lots and lots of B.B.C.
At night from the fresh air being in the outdoors all day
We slept like baby's from the young one.the parents. Also the grandparents.
BOY WE SURE HAD A GOOD TIME
AT NIGHT WE HAD NICE BIG DINNER AND A GLASS OF WINE
SOME HAD A BOTTLE OF BEER.
I THINK OFTEN OF THOSE MEMORIES 😎💞

I just buy packet noodles in a supermarket. Cheap and tasty.

    • @daducky411
      @daducky411 4 роки тому

      Or boil.a saucepan of water
      Pour some tea/ ciffee.
Add an egg + some slice onion to the water. Pour the water on some dried noodles. Keep tge egg for b-fast.
Fry a schteak a few mins a sude. Then add the oniins let it sit while you eat the soup/ noodles. Half a bread roll and mop up the steak juice, and you git a tasty steak and onion sandwich. Mmmm.
A real godsend camping is peanut butter. Flavour and energy and sort of makes you content.

Apparently you can fry a few crickets and good value locust. I'd avoid the roaches and flues.
      .
Bet you never though that old bamboo cane fishing net you had as a kid would come in handy.

Cooking up on a lousy day in your shelter was always a pleasure.
Funny story: When Military meal ready to eat (MRE) heaters came out. I was in Vermont on Winter warfare training. Didn't know they put off Hydrogen. Well the hydrogen formed at the top of the tent. Well another guy came in and lit off a whisper light stove. One second Hindenburg, nobody hurt.

Haha..."Lesson Learned"- How many times did I say that- I finally started saying, "Why did I even need to "learn" this lesson- I knew better in the first place!" Funny how we keep doing the same stupid crap even though we know better. That's being human, I guess. But, at least it only becomes 'stupid' after the fact- right?.
I went for a day trip once- just a short "get there, Hike out, hike back, no problem." Problem! - It had been raining for five days and no real issues- just wet and calm- , then it really let loose, just an hour after I crossed the last bridge a flash flood and total Washout. I only carried one "day trip" worth of food and two canteens of water. Four days later, water receded enough for me to get out ! You mention you always take a "Week+" of food and ten liters of water (20 pounds of water alone!). Wise, indeed and good exercise packing it. Everyone should follow that advice. I 'learned' some good lessons on my outings- on every single one, too. What you said about being "amazed" at how fast you use up your water. That was one of my very first 'amazement s' for me, too when I first started pack packing/exploring. After some years of hoofing it, I wanted to cover more territory so I began vehicle packing/camping- with four wheelers and jeep sometimes (always alone- But, a few times I brought my teen son to teach him woodcraft- he hated it- boring, no girls, etc). I always tanked up on water like crazy. But, it seemed to me, the more water you carry the more you end up needing. I never felt like I had enough water. What is up with that, anyway?
I'm old now and can't hike anymore- but I sure enjoyed it when I did. Seems like the forest/desert/whatever and isolation for a few days always cleared my mental cobwebs- made me a better person.
    Good vid. I enjoyed it.

Nice vid. I have the same tent. Learned a lesson or two about staking down your tent though, didn't you ? You are lucky to be alive. Could've had a very serious situation on your hands. You provided an invaluable lesson for so many folks out there, me included. Many thx. A quick suggestion if you don't mind. How about purchasing a tarp (I recommend DD Hammocks tarps, either 3X3 or the newer, better, 4X4 (that's 13 ft !), and using the tarp to not only cover your tent (yes, I know you already have a fly), but you can use the rest of the tarp to extend your vestibule, making it that much larger. Just a thought. Keep up the great work and God bless. Your friend Sebastian in Canada.

Those Mountain House meals were originally developed as LRP rations for combat ground forces in Vietnam and were a welcome respite from the much maligned C-rations. A marble sized ball of C-4 would bring a canteen cup of water to a boil in nothing flat, or "boom done" as we liked to say.

Good resilience to the elements, it certainly came down pretty hard!! Something very satisfying about being out in it though. What's the deal with cooking inside the tent, is there a risk of carbon monoxide build up?

    • @CookingOutdoors4You
      @CookingOutdoors4You  8 років тому

+Tom Robinson (Swiss) Yes of course, there is risk of intoxication and an accident is very easy to happen, however, the vestibule is big enough to let good ventilation for occasional cooking. There will be sometimes when you get stranded for one or several days on your tent under heavy rain and this is the only way to cook basically. It's good to practice just in case.
