Raye is one o a very few artists these days saying real shit true words .like chinchilla and Ren !!!!! Can name a good few but im sur u all know❤❤❤❤❤ real facts keeping it real ☮️💜🙏🕊🌈🤘🎼🎵
She sings "Genesis one, verse three, I'll dry my eyes" Genesis: 1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2. Now the earth was [ 1] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. This woman is a genius
And "The devil works hard like my liver". The devil tempts Eve in Genesis to bite the forbidden fruit(apple). And there's also a gospel choir sequence where they are chanting let there be light repeatedly like they are in church. The religious symbolism throughout the music video is incredible.
@@eventplanner461 not only that but the video is also exactly seven minutes long. And God created the earth in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested. which is why we have seven days of the week. She really thought about the details. And the line "I see a sad little sinner in the mirror" referencing the fact that all humans are by nature sinners. Her brain!!!
do you also think taylor swift writes groundbreakingly deep lyrics ? i love raye and i like her lyrics but lets not pretend that line is deep or unique 😭
@@ceciisuppose1530 don't know where taylor factors in this, and i never said it was a unique line. i only spoke of its impact and really the feelings it invokes. if you don't feel the same, that's your prerogative.
Her musical style is so unique, the way she seamlessly fuses traditional Blues and Jazz with more contemporary Urban styles is fresh and unexpected. I love how she talks about singing gospel in church too. And she writes her own material. This one’s special, please don’t fuck her up world. ❤
I love how parts one and two feel like she’s tearing down all of her personal and society’s woes, but whereas other artists would just leave it at that she immediately offers up something to put in its place in part three, “the light”. It’s such a genius move that really finishes the song and makes it feel like a full statement.
This video clip must have taken MONTHS. What a detailed, diverse and exciting little movie this is. A 7 minute music clip which felt like 2 minutes. This should win all the big prizes. Amazing work. After Escapism, RAYE really outdone herself.
She's taking us back to a time where music was art, when lyrics were meant to heal and relate to, you go girl, let musical art prevail again in this industry ❤❤❤
"for all the fathers and the teachers working hard in the night" As a high school teacher who spent all night correcting work, I felt that line. Thank you, Raye 🙏🏼✨
Wait, at 3:14 is that supposed to be Raye's Escapism era watching her current era?? I just realized that the outfit & cry makeup is from the Escapism MV 😭
I missed music videos like this. I feel like a lot of artists stopped putting effort into videos because of streaming. Also, she always touches on topics that are relevant. The part about democracy being fake hit hard with everything going on in the world right now.
i see why shes been working on genesis since 2022 this song is not just a song but a movie telling the story of the worlds insecurities attempts sufferings ect in the most purest way no one does it like raye whenever it comes to this type of music we are blessed to have her here with us shes bringing back the music that is long forgotten i hope the world treats her right cuz she deserves nothing but the best she is the women the artist the moment
this is the metamorphosis of Raye - I absolutely adore her genre-bending skills. Using electronic sounds for the darker sides of life and jazz and soul for the light - it's such a perfect metaphor and juxtaposition.
Oh my Goddd. The way Raye sings of all my insecurities. It’s so magical and beautiful. Who needs a therapist when you can listen to Raye and drown yourself in her music?
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1 BATH TUB BAPTISM SYMBOLISM If you know you know. Jesus is Lord! Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Deuteronomy 5:11
I like RAYE but come on, icon?? Legend?? hold your horses. she haven't reach that level yet stop throwing those words everywhere. it makes it less valuable.
No one does it like her. She takes us through a dark tunnel in the first 5 minutes. Shows us the darkest parts of the human psyche and our society. It's so matter of fact and real and it hurts and makes you feel hopeless. And then the tone shifts. And the last 2 minutes are filled with hope, with joy, with laughter. Despite everything she sang about earlier, she shows us there are parts of life that make it worth living. How there's light at the end of the tunnel. If you choose to listen to the first 5 minutes of the song only (or just part 1 and 2 on the album), it'll leave a bitter taste in your mouth. And sometimes that recognition of your suffering is what you need in that moment. But when you push through and listen to part 3, it leaves you feeling hopeful. Like marching towards progress possible again. It's amazing. She's such an artist. This is the type of song that might save someone's life. I can tell why she's been working on it since 2022.
Genesis is a masterpiece. Raye is going down in history as one of the greatest. I’m so happy for her, she’s a fighter, an extraordinary musician and it’s very inspiring for me as musician as well too see her thriving and doing what she loves the most and being authentic, brave and unapologetic about her art. If Raye doesn’t walk away with 6 Grammys like she walked away with 6 Brit’s I will be so upset she is the detention of an artist and deserves nothing but the highest of honours
I never been addicted to a song the way raye basically made a song about how it feel to be in this generation and the struggle with social anxiety and depression
One thing about Raye is that her music videos are always in depth. It shows that she really cares about her craft and what she stands for and I love that for her ☺️🩷
I just listened to this masterpiece and it was the best 7 minutes of my life. Finally someone combined pop, rnb and jazz into one song. Raye's a musical genius and this deserves great awards.
This is the real art. Refreshing, pure, atmospheric. You can see in every detail that a lot of thought process was done making this clip. Lyrics, cinematography, direction, RAYE - everything is top level. Change of styles and all of them are so unique and it makes this whole 7 min video a true masterpiece. I love you RAYE, keep being yourself because there's not many like you in industry right now.
THIS WOMAN IS ICONIC, SHE DOESN'T GET HER DESERVED RECOGNITION BUT SHE DELIVERS INCREDIBLE SONGS, IMPECCABLE CLIPS, RAYE YOU ARE A "Badass ARTIST", AND NOBODY CAN DENY THAT!
As a christian, i'm proud of you, Raye. For being true to yourself, for staying true to God. I know you're fighting, i hope God heals you and inspire your art forever.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:1-5 BATH TUB BAPTISM SYMBOLISM If you know you know. Jesus is Lord!

Part I]
[Verse]
They say the twenties are the best years of your life
But I seem to be spending mine missing sunsets
'Cause I'm busy on my phone observing everyone else
How I compare and obsess
Just me, my phone, and these walls
And I've been sober for some months
But I can feel the demons waiting on my downfall
Since I'm so ugly and irrelevant
I've been losing friends as if I'm tryna get rid of them
I Googled why I'm still desperate for validation and sedatives, huh
Callin' men who don't give a fuck about me
Then when my mother called I pretend I'm busy
I'm tryna end up anywhere except from where I been
Curtains closed, bed bound, amphetamines
Mmm, and this devil on my shoulder, man, I'm tryna to shake him off
My ex is on my timeline, it's as if he's showing off
My self-esteem is Facetune and ring lights
My ego is conquering new heights
[Pre-Chorus]
I think I need some (Think I need some)
Do you need some? (Do you need some?)
Don't we all need some (We all need some)
Light? (Let there be light)
Da-da-da, da-da-da (There'll be light)
I think I need some (Think I need some)
I lied, I don't think I (Know I need some)
I need some light (Some sweet sunshine)
To feel alright (Please, let there be light)
[Part II]
[Chorus]
I see a sad little sinner in the mirror
The devil works hard like my liver
I don't wanna be alive, but I don't wanna die
A fistful of pills, you're a nobody
[Post-Chorus]
Yeah (Uh-uh), yeah (Uh, uh-uh), yeah
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah (Uh, uh-uh)
(Let there be light)
Yeah (Uh-uh), yeah (Uh, uh-uh), yeah
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
[Verse 1]
Bang-bang, that's depression at the door again
You know he'll beat the door down till you let him in the room
Since you are already acquainted, you skip the foreplay
He grips you at the neck as you prepare to be screwed
You try to muster a flare, to tell somebody you're sinking
But anxiety is an index finger pressed to your lips
A whiskey bottle, it whispers, since you're already bitter
A cocktail fit for a quitter, "Come here and give me a kiss"
[Chorus]
I see a sad little sinner in the mirror
The devil works hard like my liver
I don't wanna be alive, but I don't wanna die
A fistful of pills and rivers in my eyes
I've got nothin' left to lose, dear God in the sky
Hear my cry, hear my cry
When it's too dark to see
Let there be light, let there be light
Let there be light

Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah (Uh, uh-uh)
[Verse 2]
Yes, I edit my pictures to make my waist look slimmer
And make my ass look bigger so that I'm someone you aspire to
Let me in your algorithm, please
I know I'll only be important if I'm someone you would like, follow, share, and subscribe to
If you're thirsty like me (Like me)
Mix some pity with some self-hate
Stir it up, then add twelve ounces of rosé
That's how I make the glass half-empty and drink it down
[Verse 3]
Beneath the curse words and the insecurities
Here lies a sorry little soul
And she doesn't even know what to pray for
Still just a heart-broke bitch
But I traded the back of the nightclub, I did, for the bathroom floor
I wish I could call my ex
He would know just what to say (He don't say nothing at all now)
Brings a tear to my eye
The only thing I rely on him to do is stay declining my calls now
[Chorus]
I see a sad little sinner in the mirror
The devil works hard, like my liver
I don't wanna be alive, but I don't wanna die
A fistful of pills and rivers in my eyes
I've got nothin' left to lose, dear God in the sky
Hear my cry, hear my cry
When it's too dark to see (Let there be light)
Let there be light, let there be light
Let there be light
[Bridge]
Little girls that have no self-esteem
A little boy without a father tries to find him in the streets
A girl I used to walk to school with
Took her life, now rest in peace (Rest in peace)
Fake democracy, killing overseas
Killing ourselves, suicide
Government lies, discrimination
Hating ourselves
Why hope? Why keep going? Why try? (Why?)
Genesis one, verse three, I'll dry my eyes
The only thing which darkness cannot coexist is the light
[Chorus]
I see a sad little sinner in the mirror
The devil works hard like my liver
I don't wanna be alive, but I don't wanna die
A fistful of pills and rivers in my eyes
I've got nothin' left to lose, dear God in the sky

I want that light in my dreams, yeah, doo-de
Oh, baby, light all the dark, yes
Light up the dark, Lord (Oh, let there be light)
Let there be light, Lord
[Outro]
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do
Ooh, hey
beautiful
Omg I wanna make that a poster. I need to see this message everyday
I love the light part is community and collective spaces and the darkness is suffering in front of a screen
this is a beautiful take, i didn't even notice
And how life was depicted as everyone sitting in a theatre watching a movie that they have no control over.
God, That part was so relatable and so genuinely heartbreaking.
Is it 7 minutes long because the creation of the world (as described in Genesis) took 7 days? Raye is such a detail-oriented artist, it's amazing.
I sure hope this gets a radio edit like Escapism because this and Escapism are such important works of art for our generation. RAYE needs to be heard!
On the EP it's divided into three parts, gensiees part two is essentially the radio edit
I feel genesis part 2 is the radio edit!
I know you can't get around them, but I hate radio edits. Just play the whole piece of art, or don't.
Yeah 2nd that 1 ☮️💜🙏
Raye is one o a very few artists these days saying real shit true words .like chinchilla and Ren !!!!! Can name a good few but im sur u all know❤❤❤❤❤ real facts keeping it real ☮️💜🙏🕊🌈🤘🎼🎵
THIS WOMEN DESERVES A GRAMMY FOR THIS 🩷🩷
She deserves a global number 1
*SEVERAL GRAMMIES
Agreed, this one should be her Second grammy
but the grammy doesn't deserve Raye
She already won British Awards. are u sleeping? or fake fan?
Flames Collective in the house! We're so honoured to have our vocals on this work of art, RAYE we Stan 🖤❤🖤
You guys killed it!
Y’all are so good you’re one of the reasons this song is on a whole other level😍
You lot never miss 🔥🔥
Killed it at the Albert Hall, O2, Brits and now on Genesis. You guys are phenomenal
Flames are always on fire! 🔥
She sings "Genesis one, verse three, I'll dry my eyes"
Genesis: 1.
"i don't wanna be alive but i don't wanna die" is an immensely powerful line that i dont think we really understand its magnitude
Oh so many of us do lol
@@camaraann8728 i know
it feels like something freddie mercury would write like in bohemian rhapsody "i dont wanna die, sometimes i wish i've never been born at all"
do you also think taylor swift writes groundbreakingly deep lyrics ? i love raye and i like her lyrics but lets not pretend that line is deep or unique 😭
She masters both the Rhythm and the Blues aspects of “Rhythym and Blues” (R&B)
“let their pay rise, let there be light”
PERIOD MOTHER!!!!!
i listened to your song ‘feelin’, the beat is cute, have a good week ❤️
@haladisa3
Period. She's gotten her flowers already though
@@KYLETISZAI she deserves moreeee 🥲
She's taking us back to a time where music was art, when lyrics were meant to heal and relate to, you go girl, let musical art prevail again in this industry ❤❤❤
😮
vote raye at the MTV category "best video" please
This woman could harmonise a sneeze and win song of the year.
This is 21st century Bohemian Rhapsody. A true work of art. Freddie would be so proud. Cheers to another golden era of Raye
The visuals, the artistry, the integrity and honesty in her lyricism, the creative direction, the vocals, the TALENT. No one is doing it like her
AMEN to that ❤❤❤
A+huuuyqt moon@haladisa3
Society, don’t let this goddess down. She deserves so much more recognition.
The transition from such a dark and powerful lyrics to sweet and classical jazz is something that only Raye can pull off beautifully 💖💖

"for all the fathers and the teachers working hard in the night"
As a high school teacher who spent all night correcting work, I felt that line. Thank you, Raye 🙏🏼✨
Wait, at 3:14 is that supposed to be Raye's Escapism era watching her current era?? I just realized that the outfit & cry makeup is from the Escapism MV 😭
YOU ARE RIGHT!
yes, and she references the song as well!
Omg 😭😭😭
Same thing I observed! 😅
Omg you’re right!!!
This is so major. The vocals, the lyrics, the storytelling, the dancing, the cinematography. Art.
I love that she had students from BRIT in her music video. She also recorded at Selhurst station right by the school too!🫶
BRIT loves you Raye! 🩷🩷
this is not a music video, this is CINEMA
Now i agreee, music is art...
She is bringing jazz back to public eyes😭 such a powerful singerrr
I missed music videos like this. I feel like a lot of artists stopped putting effort into videos because of streaming. Also, she always touches on topics that are relevant. The part about democracy being fake hit hard with everything going on in the world right now.
This is what artistry looks like. Jesus... the chills.

“when it’s to dark to see, let there be ✨light✨”
this is the metamorphosis of Raye - I absolutely adore her genre-bending skills. Using electronic sounds for the darker sides of life and jazz and soul for the light - it's such a perfect metaphor and juxtaposition.
Oh my Goddd. The way Raye sings of all my insecurities. It’s so magical and beautiful. Who needs a therapist when you can listen to Raye and drown yourself in her music?

this woman is the amy winehouse x marilyn monroe we needed for this decade. an icon, a legend. RAYE.
Love this exactly my thoughts!!!
EXACTLYYYY
I like RAYE but come on, icon?? Legend?? hold your horses. she haven't reach that level yet stop throwing those words everywhere. it makes it less valuable.
Raye is Raye. How does Marilyn fit in here
@@lorcan8484 its based of view. a legend is someone that gets remembered, even if its just by a single person ♥️
歌詞、メロディー全部完璧で鳥肌
How I love that lyric "The devil Works Hard, Like my Liver"
THIS WOMAN IS SO IMPORTANT!!!!
I'm in love with this. the juxtaposition of genres. the messages. the storytelling... she's just so good at what she does I'm in awe

I'm an English teacher for adults and I taught your song at school. Thank you for an inspirational song ❤️
After her debut album won her all those Brit awards Raye comes back with 7 minutes of a masterpiece. Thank you.
She made me breakdown and cry at the gym this morning with this masterpiece - it’s not a song but an entire experience.
obsessed with raye, she’s been bossing for years!
I wonder if Raye ever reads the comments…like, does she get to see how many people absolutely adore her?
of course she does
I never been addicted to a song the way raye basically made a song about how it feel to be in this generation and the struggle with social anxiety and depression
