Literally my favourite performance!
Being forced to write songs she didn't want to and being told she'll never make it by herself. Then going solo, releasing an album that talks about her very real upbringing and hardships, performing them live at the BRITs and going home with 6 awards! Words can't even express how happy I am for her, you deserve this RAYE!

@@junolmaoo Yeah she was the pre act for SZAs tour last year in switzerland and she made me tear up. I only knew her for her song escapism and I thought she was just some other industry plant. But when she started singing i was baffled by her voice and her stage presence. She's such an amazing artist and I've been in love with her music ever since

I think it's because now she's releasing her own versions of her old songs and since I was in my early twenties during the time she came out as an artist in country music everything has been about either Taylor Swift or beyoncé. I'm over it I'm ready for newcomers and the beautiful woman whom I never heard of named Rae would have been a perfect candidate to win a Grammy! Now that I'm 40 years old I don't watch these fake award shows! Everybody knows who's going to win beforehand and it's so stupid. I feel like just because you have Grammy award nominated or Grammy award winner artist next to your name means absolutely nothing! If it wasn't voted on by fans and the people. Instead it's voted on by a committee. These award shows are fake and are created for nothing other than making money off of the consumer. So I quit watching. In part it was because “Escapism” registered on the US charts AFTER (or only shortly before) the cutoff.
But this highlights a problem: the Grammy’s usually ignore foreign artists’ releases unless the chart in US market. No matter how brilliant.
This was an issue I think was also evidenced in 2001, when I believe that “Can’t Get You Outta My Head” impacted the US after it was too late for its Grammy chances. Had they been paying attention to other music markets, they would have nominated it.
It’s also the reason Jessie Ware’s entire body of work has been snubbed and Kylie Minogue went fifteen years between nominations (until the Padam-ic of last year).
When that one girl said she had 2009 VMA Lady Gaga Paparazzi feelings, I totally agreed. Raye is an outstanding talent for sure.

This is one of the most flawless LIVE performances I have ever seen. The joy on her face at 5:03, revelling in the moment then absolutely nailing the last bit is, has to be one of my all time favourite musical moments - I can absolutely relate to the joy and excitement when everything comes together and you are just sitting on top of the world!

This performance took tears out of my eyes!! This is so powerful, so majestic, speechless. I felt so sad hearing the first song, but happy in the end of the video 'cause I knew in the back of her head, a voice said "I made it!". Yeah, Raye made it, and now I love her so much.
I feel we haven't had any artists that have an 'icon' status in a long time but I think that RAYE will change that, she's got it all - the voice, songwriting, performing, looks and just overall star quality. I think she's got a long career ahead of her, she's just unbelievably talented. So happy things have worked out for her, her old label must be shaking in their boots watching her taking over the music biz. Such an inspiration to other women to stand your ground and not let others (men, mostly) dictate what you do in life.

soz but all of those are very mainstream type of music. Ed sheeran had a different style, but his newest albums have been very lame in comparison to his more creative, first albums. I am 71 years old. I cannot tell you how much I love RAYE and her music. She brings me to tears of joy for her success (at last!). Lots of artists produce good or great music in the studio RAYE is the real deal because she cooks even more in live performances than in the studio! She gives her audience everything she's got - heart, soul, voice (what a voice!), personal hardship, resilience, love for music, love for life, love for us and love for herself. I am so flipping proud of her and happy for her. She's so exceptional.

that was INCREDIBLE! mixing orchestral with hip hop and jazz is marvelous, but then when you have her voice at the forefront of it all and the chorus elevating her vocals- it sends chills down your spine because of how powerful and emotional it feels. her lyrics are top tier, her voice is top tier, and she’s such a lovely person- just an amazing artist and performance through and through!
