Appreciate the vid. I'll Keep the klx in mind as I'm inexperienced. Only hitting washed out fire trails at the moment. But I'm riding a KLR. So far so good. No drops yet but also it's holding me back due to not wanting to take risks as I ride alone. A smaller more agile bike will be my next bike so I can ride with more confidence.👍
My first dual sport was a KLR650. That thing has a very steep learning curve if you're just getting to riding in dirt: it's too big and heavy. I traded "down" to a KLX300 and it was just about perfect for learning on, particularly for a dual sport. For trails only, I'd suggest a CRF250F, but for a plated dual sport, it's hard to beat the KLX250 or KLX300 to start out with. Then, once you get comfortable with that in the dirt, you can go to either extreme: to more road focused ADV bikes, or to more seriously dirt capable dual sports that are more like dirt bikes with lights, such as the CRF450RL or KTM 500 EXC.
I'm very happy with my KLX300. The suspension is pretty damn good, and it's got more power than I had anticipated. The perfect dual sport for me. Hwy speeds and acceleration, no problem, lightweight yes, decent power yes, reliable yes. The downside, fuel tank is inexcusably Small. Had to get the ims tank to have half decent range. Also the plastics seem hard and are likely brittle.
oh ive taken the KLX on the same trails as my husky, it iwll do them just not as fast. But was mostly talking about the reliability of the KLX it has been very great! Thanks for watching!

Where do you get your replacement shrouds for the KLX?

Those are all the exact reasons I bought one to learn on (klx300 DS)
Hi! Have you came around the cam chain tensioner issue yet? Any conclusions? Thanks!
You have to fit a manual tensioner
Sorry but there ain’t no KLX300 doing the things that Husky is in the video. Beast.
