    Picked up my 2020 camo klx 250 in April. Man am I glad I did. So worth it. Only had experience on a TTR 225 prior to it. Learned a lot about on road riding but having a dual sport is the most amazing thing. Coming home from work spot a trail oh screw it let’s go check it out. About to change the front sprocket to a 13 tooth though and get some more torque out of it.

    KLX250S is currently my favorite 250cc bike. I have riden a crf250x, wr250f and yz250f in the past and still come back to the KLX250S. It's just so comfortable and with a decent set of off road tyres it kills just about anything.

    Good vid on real trails taking that thing to its limits! Is that the Gunnison area? Even after you get a real trail bike....always keep a dual sport around. I went from a BMX kid to dual sporter, to a AA enduro racer, now just a mnt biker (pedal). I miss my dual sports (xl250 and 350) adventuring the most. Hope to do again some day soon. Time flies........I should do it next summer(!).

    I have a KLR650 and I ride in the woods more than the streets and the 650 is very comfortable and powerful but also unforgiving on tight trails with large rocks and roots and mud because its heavy and tall. My friend has a KLX250 and I am thinking of down sizing to it. I like that it is street legal but still mainly a dirt bike and with an aftermarket header, exhaust pipe and a lower tooth gear they are powerful and torquey.

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  4 роки тому +1

      yup!! the KLX250 does well on very tight single track. Ive taken this guy on tight single track and is very comfortable believe it or not because its so plush you cant even go that fast on tight stuff. at 13/50 gearing my top speed is about 73 mph..so something to consider. Also the klx250 does better on tighter stuff vs the 701 enduro to give ya an idea

    I had a similar situation a couple of years ago, I wanted a 250 trail bike and in the UK it was a very limited market. The Yamaha had been discontinued due to lack of sales because of it's high price, so the choice was between the KLX and the CRF/L. I looked at it logically and the KLX was a far better machine, WHY?. Well 1) Far better suspension that was adjustable.2) Better ground clearance.3) Lighter. 4) £500 ($650) cheaper. Ok so the Honda made about 1 hp more but that was equaled out with the extra weight. With the money saved on the price over the Honda I added a fender eliminator, FMF pipe, fuel controller, larger sump guard, and a 14t front sprocket. These mods made it even better and an ideal little dual sport. The only downside on the KLX is the location of the coolant tank but that can be protected. All in all a great little bike. If the new KLX300 comes to the UK I will be first in line to buy one.

    Great video, your advice is spot on with starting out with a bike that your very confident on/possibly can flat foot,but your statement of low seat height is very misleading. It has a 35" seat height. Only 1.6" lower than the WR. Yamaha TW 200's seat height: 31.1" & the XT 225 has a 31.9" seat height. I'm 5' 11" & a 30" inseam and rode the entire TAT solo (from the East Coast 5.5K miles) no problem with my lowered WR 250R at 34.5" seat height. But after year of riding ( and never starting out on shorter bikes) I'm still looking for a lower bike so I can get my feet down off road if I want to. I rode full dresser Harley's on gravel roads, owned a GSA for years, have a WR and am interested in the KTM 390 Adv at 33.6" seat height, but I'm also wanting to shift towards a TW 200 or a XT 225 instead of the WR just so I can have more fun and more confidence. I'm 54 year old and have crashed enough over the years to want to start to take it easy and just have more fun.
    Last tid bit- wear all the gear all the time even if your just putting around your yard at 10 mph. The one time I didn't do that cost me 4 year of not riding and I still limp ever day. Hope that helps someone. cheers

    After a 40+ year riding break, I got my endorsement and then bought a Suzuki V-Strom 1000XT. After riding it for awhile, I determined I wanted to improve my off pavement skills so I did a thorough search on 250cc class dual sports. On paper my initial choices were KLX250, CRF250L, XT250, & WR250R. I also strongly considered a DRZ400S. I ended up eliminating the KLX250 because I couldn’t get a good deal. Paying MSRP, Destination, Preparation, and Doc Fees isn’t a good deal. I also have a 9.5% sales tax where I live. The CRF250L fell into the same category but was also eliminated being 12 pounds heavier than the KLX. My actual best deals were on the XT250 & WR 250R (DRZ400S was same price out the door as WR250R). I also worried about the seat height and was very close to getting the XT250 because of that. In the end I selected the WR250R. Weight and no Fuel injection eliminated the DRZ. After putting nearly a 1000 miles on the WR250R I’m happy with it for the most part, but do wish it were lower. All the bikes listed were good choices.

    Your reasons are pretty much the same as why I got my KLX300. I've ridden bikes with 37-38 inch seat heights and I am not comfortable on them and getting on and off without standing on the foot pegs is impossible for me. The only thing they missed with on the KLX is they need stiffer springs for all but the lightest riders and I wish they had a wider ratio transmission. I already did springs and I'm working on a gearing solution for the transmission right now.

    Next, you should try a WR250F. That has over 37 inch seat height, but now that you are used to off road, it will feel like a rocket. Yes, it's high maintenance, but you can put a plate on it, and the balance and control are great.

    The klx is a bike that gives you a lot for the money. My friend who is taller than me has one and the klx suits a taller rider. I have an xt250 which is the best choice for me. It takes a beating and has never let me down. I like it's bigger fuel tank, tighter turning radius and I prefer the air cooled. (Less to worry about for maintenance or in crashes) The xt is a couple of inches lower than the klx which is perfect for my 30 inch inseam. I like being able to waddle through when the going gets too hairy. I couldn't do that on a klx 250.

    First bike I started riding trails on as an adult. I had experience as a kid but it was fairly limited and I had rode bikes.
    The 250s made getting back up to speed really easy, and allowed me to go places I shouldn't have been (making it fun again).
    Saving for a 450l as we speak because the klx was not my bike and it's hard to borrow something that's 600 miles away.

    Hey there! I'm close to buy a new bike but not sure which buying. Sure, I am falling in love with Klx 250, however I keep in mind other options. In despite of, in my country I cant find wr250r (only motocross version or only enduro) or Crf250L (only cross or Rally, but last one is not an option by me) , also Klx is about 7000us here. Due to that, Im not pretty sure if I must choose a new Klx 250 or buy a used bike (I just to find 2014 Husqvarna for 8500us with almost 21747 milles and dont know how many hours) I do every dat about 26milles also at weekends about 50milles or more. I dont know much about bikes, so I do not if perhaps the Husqvarna maintenance could be so expensive to long journeys or continuous use. Nethier I strong fan to Hard enduro. So that do you suggest me Klx 250 or use Husqvarna? Thanks, btw. And greetings from Colombia

      Try getting a moto version of the KLX or WR - they make a ton of "street/plate" kits for those . Like a KX or YZ style. Depending on what country your in also theres a lot of tourist rent A Bike places that rotate out their fleet and you may be able to get a good fixer upper. They usually maintain their bikes real well, just have high miles - just a thought/option - good luck
