Very much appreciate this initial video, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. This is not your average content; it sheds light on what is often overlooked and poorly appreciated in the game of golf. Yes, we have all heard the "thank your super" adage, but so few do, and not enough appreciate what the position entails and the importance it has on the game.
Love seeing the town of mullen featured in this....I love that town...the area...and the people ..and the golf..one of my favorite places in the world to spend time!
This is awesome man. As someone whos always toyed with the idea of abandoning my career as an engineer for this, it’s good to get an inside look and to see an example of a quality internship.
Having an intern would be such a luxury. You should do a series on how courses that aren't in the Top 100 manage. That's where the guys with the real skills operate. Having a $1 million+ budget makes things easy.
Just watched the first video and I did enjoy it but I’m ambivilant about the location for the series. Has a very down home and local vibe but let’s be honest we’re talking about 2 golf courses that 99.9% of the golfing population have no chance of getting on in 10 lifetimes. Pretty much unlimited budget, open 3 months a year, extremely limited play. This is a fantasy land, I think the concept would have been better served on a course worried about budget, gets lots of play and still maintains a good product. Great production value though and well executed.
I wish my turf Internship would have looked more like this. Instead I was the typical “Chief Hose Operator” and “Master of Bunker Raking” granted it was at Shinnecock in ‘04 and then master cup cutter at Friars Head for a few years. It’s really wild to have seen the massive amount of interns and assistants competing for such limited jobs to have now decreased so much that it’s a struggle to find interns. Once the turf degree became more popular in the late 2000’s and everyone started competing for 2nd and 3rd Assisant jobs replacing the “old guard” with “half the age, half the wage” it started a real down turn in interest and is when I left the industry.
Thank you for this context! Sorry to hear you had to leave the industry, but I get it. Tough job, and budget cutting at many golf courses hasn't helped.
@@garrettmorrison1455 thank you and Andy, Will and Meg and everyone involved at TFE for trying to shine some well deserved light on the Superintendent series. It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you at The Mines as well.

Love to see such support and camaraderie between the staff and the superintendents. Wish there was more of it
