What feels really realistic about Luz and Hunter's mindsets in "Thanks to Them" is that it's full of projection. Luz doesn't really think her friends will hate her, but she currently hates _herself_ for what she did, and so she's projecting that onto them believing that they _should_ hate her. Hunter doesn't really think that everyone will turn on him, but he doesn't know who he is right now, and so he's projecting that the others will suddenly treat him like a stranger since that's how he feels to himself. It makes what might otherwise just be a dumb "miscommunication" trope feel real and earned.
"Luz reads too many enemies to lovers fanfictions" "Holy shit her enemies to lovers plan worked" You know Luz's browser history is filled with Azura/Hecatey fanfics. Who I imagine have a very subtexty xena and gabrielle type of thing going?
Yeah, and I would have loved some interaction between Vee and Hunter in particular. Both were artificially created by Belos, and both are trying to be allowed to literally just continue existing. I would have loved to see some stuff between them.
@@LittleHobbit13 you were comparing them, and the first thing I thought of when I thought about their similarities was their smarts. Especially because of the main comment we're replying under.

When talking about the show to a friend I summarized the magic system and how Luz works within it by comparing it to dnd and saying "She is like a wizard in a world full of sorcerers"
Having sad Mickey Mouse over here reinforces my idea that Mickey is just an scapegoat for the Disney Execs, since apart from all the child abuse and murder,Canon Mickey would probably think The Owl House is kinda cool.
I mean, there's not much to say about Vee, as adorable and lovable as she is, she was kind of just, there. The only important thing that was going on with her character in that episode was her and Masha. But that only got a minute of screentime.
I love that Vee is tracking Luz's phone 💚 She probalby heard so many wild stories from Camlia so being the sensible sister she did the best thing to keep the chaos child safe
Something I'm struck by is that Amity and Luz kinda... flipped. Not 1 for 1 or anything. Luz isn't a mean rich girl stereotype, but she's DROWNING under the (imagined) expectations/judgement of others. Amity has thrown all that baggage in an incinerator and is the happy, optimistic one of the group now, even over Good Boy Gus.
One thing I did notice is that Luz was able to use hunter's staff to power magic, she was able to use hunter's jump ability when she held his staff. I suspect this means she will gain some ability to use magic when she gets her palisman. Edit I will also state that luz's Mom having a tracking app on her phone makes sense as she fears losing Luz again.
There is parentless narrative that plagues fantasy media and I love how toh pushes against this. We need more media that shows diverse and healthy relationships between adults and children, especially in children’s media.
3:44 I know this video’s about TOH but an interesting note on Adora’s selfless tendencies was the fact that her best friend Catra often hated when she did this due to the fact that while having good intentions, Adora would often go over Catra’s feelings & never stop to consider how her actions affected Catra (which included her condescension) & it wasn’t just her who was affected by this. Adora’s selflessness also lacked personal reasoning most of the time hence why Catra eventually asks her with such frustration “Why are you like this?!”
Fantastic analysis and summary. I enjoyed the references you made to other media, while also still focusing entirely on toh. Very well scripted and edited :3
Luz’s Palisman is 110% going to be a snake or I will eat my shoe. Reddit has convinced me there’s just to many subtle snake related Easter eggs. I can’t unsee the L in the logo as an upside down staff with the S in house as a snake.
While I don't think Belos will (or should) be redeemed but I think he has a solid chance of becoming a sorta ally of circumstance. He wants to go back to the boiling isles for a reason even though he knows the collector is free.
Frankly it might be a 50/50 of which one is the ally of convenience and for hunter' sake if nothing else i hope it's the collector over belos, because that's some shadow weaver lvl bs and she didn't even kill swift wind.
Er. He wants to go back to the Boiling Isles so he can finish killing all the witches. Did you miss the last words he said as he went through the portal? That doesn't make for a good ally.

That's a good point about the adults. So many shows and even movies feel like maybe the creator must have had a lot of negative experiences or just relies on the old trope of adults sucking, but it's an outdated way of thinking/ writing in my opinion
I love the humor in this video WHAT, Thank you for 16 minutes of laughs oh my lord. Also, good points made. I too, feel very conflicted about the big event in s3 and I need happiness for Hunter like, so bad I cry
this was SUCH a good video i loved it!!! you did such a good job breaking down everyone's development over the series and then using that to interpret why thanks to them progressed as it did, it was awesome
Not only is Belos (and Viren from Dragon Prince) irredeemable because they're evil and awful, but also because no matter what he will never believe he was in the wrong.
Always thought if the friends was to hate Hunter or Luz I’ll say they would hate Luz cuz like Hunter only think they hate him for being born/ created he couldn’t really do anything to stop that from happening unlike Luz Lilith did try to tell her when helping Philip and seeing how she a nerd I’m pretty sure she knows about going into the past change / fuck up the future also belos would of never found the light glyph cuz Luz used her cracked phone to get the spell

'Philip cancelled Caleb for wanting a piece of wussy' was like an auditory slap in the face, 11/10
Yeah, and now I can't call people wussies anymore without considering this esoteric new form of wussy.
