    This is fascinating. I love my K5, absolute beast of a bike. I wouldn’t have a scooby doo clue about the maintenance side of things, I have a brilliant mechanic who handles that side of things but I love learning about what’s inside.

    This just perfect, nice and slow is excellent (for the negative people out there, you can playforward ) i got a k6 1000, which hasn't been moved sinds 2008. The bike starts well, but the clutch seems to stick. I wanna do the modification and should i try to get the old clutch to work or should i get a fresh pair of it. And thanks for this video it is very helpful

      Dave R Thank you for your feedback and your kind words, people give me stick how slow the video is ,it’s in real time so you can wind it forward, yes I’ve could have done a bit better video but it was my first clutch so I just want to get it right, i’m not a professional mechanic but I thought I have a go and it all worked out ,right in the end.
      I have since unfortunately sold this fantastic bike , and bought another fantastic bike my 2012 white Suzuki Hayabusa which I have a walk around video posted on here, once again thank you for watching.

    Re. Slipping Clutch, Center adjuster must have play, @ 1mm, When this is tight clutch will slip. The 3 slipper adjuster bolts can be adjusted if clutch slips, 2 1/2 threads out from nut STD. Adjust these before changing clutch.

    Hi ruffdriver, good video, if a little lengthy but hey ho, at least you’ve done it.
    I’m known as the fettle king by my biker mates and after 12.5 years of owning my K1 1000, the only thing I didn’t swap but should’ve done was the clutch system. I should’ve fitted the K5 onwards OEM slipper clutch but hey ho, she’s long gone and after a 3 year stint with a BMW S1000RR, I’m now owning a K9 1000.
    I found out that the clutch mod is from a Kawasaki ZX10R and is a dual plate item, ie it’s basically 2 x plates held together to create 1. It sat right at the back of the basket, ie it’s the 1st plate to put in if memory serves correctly.
    I can state for a fact that it stopped my clutch judder and meant I could accelerate away from a standing start with great confidence and ease, and without looking like a t-wat.
    There might be a link somewhere on the internet as to the part you need as I can’t remember what it’s called, sorry.
    I hope that helps if you still haven’t sorted the judder problem. Cheers, Andi

    Good stuff. I would be the same as you with the swearing mate lol. I just want to know why you didn't do the clutch grab mod which is a problem with the gsxr1000 k5 k6. Drilling holes in the basket for more oil. I have yet to do it.

      britlips hi thanks for your comment , A little while after this video was made my bike started jerking can't think what The hell it was it was, and being winter I stuck it in a bike shop to find out what was causing it I told them I was working on the clutch so they had a look at it and said no it's put in fine they can't find a problem ,so why they had the clutch out I told them to do the modification, The bike came back after £140 it was still jerking I found that it was TPS sensor all the plugs replaced both of them and the bike stop joking ? I haven't took the panel off just to see if they did the mod like they said but it was a waste of 140 quid because I've done The Fault finding myself as I said I'm a novice and i doubted at the time
      my ability to find out the clutch was put in right and it was the The sensor or plugs.

      Hi great video and was a great help.. I have a similar problem was wondering if this is the issue. Trouble is it used to do it on my 03 plate. Now own 06 Gixxer thow.. Problemis very intermittent, but as I pull away the clutch will catch / jerk real quickly. Like it's getting caught and then releases quickly. Happens mainly sitting at lights or junction holding clutch in, not so much from neutral with clutch out.. Any thoughts should I do the mod? Thanks in advance.

      Also I have clutch slip the adjustment is nearly wound all the way down. Did changing the plates solve the slipping?

    • @777Ruffdriver
      @777Ruffdriver  Рік тому

      If you can go in a bit more detail, of what you’re saying I can help more, i worked on k5 clutch quite a few years ago. This is part 1 and there is a part 2 on this channel. Of me reinstalling the clutch if that helps you.

    • @mikey.2687
      @mikey.2687 Рік тому

      @777Ruffdriver I meant to say when I was removing my clutches and plates to of the steel plates were together so I'm guess my clutches were in wrong

    • @777Ruffdriver
      @777Ruffdriver  Рік тому

      @@mikey.2687 I would say, watch part two and it will show you how it all goes back in maybe it will be a bit more clearer to you, and that will give you the right sequence . But it’s still plate then fiber plate in that order.

    What about adjusting the clutch with this screw in the middle after change?

    • @777Ruffdriver
      @777Ruffdriver  4 роки тому

      GameR 100 That’s in part 2 reinstalling the clutch, and I think the screwed adjuster you screw all the way in to housing ,to get some resistance and 1and half turns out of the housing using a screwdriver and spanner on the locking nut and tightened up ,I will say this I am no train mechanic I did this as a project with success had no trouble with the clutch after I fitting to my bike , so i can’t take responsibility for anybody else’s vehicles following this procedure, thanks for watching.

    My clutch rattles in neutral I’ve gotta 01 gsxr 1000 I heard the bearings in the basket go bad but I’m curious has anyone here had this problem and fixed it?

    • @777Ruffdriver
      @777Ruffdriver  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching my video by the way just to get back to your clutch problem, sounds like bearings but no I haven’t come across this problem, it was my first clutch and probably my last I just had a problem with the wear on the clutch plates, at the time I thought it would be good to do a video to help amateurs like me save a bit of cash, and see if it was possible to fix and it turned out alright in the end and worked perfect , I no longer have this bike which is a shame, I traded it in for white Busa which is also a great bike to.
