    I remember the square looking seats with the light grey/red cloth and the smoked glass partitions well, and i must admit although a little dated now, looks much nicer and more airy than the garish red VTEC have applied indiscriminately. These are elegant trains that look best in simple and understated colours. BR got it right, as did GNER. More recently their appearance has been spoiled somewhat imo. I will miss them badly when they are gone.

    You say these trains needed in-cab signalling to run at 140mph. During trials for 140mph running on the East Coast Main Line, there was a Flashing Green aspect which increased the permissible speed allowing the driver to run at 140mph. The usual steady Green aspect reduced the permissible speed to the standard 125mph.

    • @hexagon7895
      @hexagon7895 5 років тому +3

      They need in-cab signalling to run at 140mph in normal service. This is mainly because of the difficulties of reliably reading signals at such speeds and because even an extra signalling block is touch-and-go for sufficient stopping distance from 140 in poor adhesion.

    it is amazing that the standard of how to build a train was set for all to see and has continued to be used to this day for all to see and yet they come out with rubbish like the javelin and the Class 800 and then expect people to think this is better than what they already know

    • @CitytransportInfoplus
      @CitytransportInfoplus  6 років тому +4

      Its not the new trains which are a problem - its the interior fitments and furnishings which have been designed to lower standards than older trains. I think that as a general statement we can 'thank' the civil servants at the DfT for this.

    • @EM-yk1dw
      @EM-yk1dw 6 років тому

      none ofurbizness I agree it’s appalling. When you buy a new car you expect it to be better than your old one, with trains in this country it is the other way round.

    What a smart and beautiful locomotive. They surely looked shiny in the 1990s. With the awesome screaming HST, and the roaring of the 91s. It'll be a shame when virgin introduce those awful cramped, shoddy Class 800 trains. I'm hoping virgin trains east coast keeps all the 225s and 125s.

    The as-built, unrefurbished interiors of the Mark 4 coaches (as seen in this video) were the best. Was never the same after the 2003-2006 refurb

    The year 1999 is a long time ago is nearly 25 previous years ago when it comes to 2024. Now it’s 2023. I honestly remembered British Rail. It’s complicated to say why it’s privatised since Monday 1st January 1996. Privatised has happened for nearly 30 years when it comes to Thursday 1st January 2026. Should British Rail come back again and say goodbye 👋 to bloody privatised train 🚆 companies. Rail staff and passengers use the trains 🚆 perhaps 🤔 could agree on that. 🙂

      @CitytransportInfoplus  8 років тому +1

      +tobysummers.exe probably just Class 801, as these will be pure electrics - albeit with a single diesel power plant for use when shunting, or in emergencies.
      Classes 800 and 802 will be bi-modes that mostly replace HST services, the 802's being more powerful because they will used in Devon and Cornwall where there are some steeper gradients. Hull trains will also have some 802's.
      Some 225's are likely to end up on the Liverpool Street - Norwich - Ipswich route. The rest... I dont know.

      Indeed this was from the 1990s when the TV was was 4:3 format.
      Most of my recent films here at UA-cam have been converted to pseudo 16:9 format, but this process includes cropping (removing) the top and bottom of the image. Because of the camera angles I decided not to do this with this film.
