My feeling is, as you perceived, the trouble started 9:37 when Riley's mom asked her to be "our happy girl" to help the family. Eleven year olds are often very eager to be useful and help. Riley repressed her natural sadness at having to leave her friends and home. This caused a depression which made her unable to feel happiness, and eventually all emotions (represented metaphorically by the control board turning grey). Riley was unable to recover until she accepted and experienced her sadness.
You had one of the most intelligent reactions I have seen to this movie and it is one of my favs. Most don’t realize Bing Bong can’t read because he is basically still three years old. Wait til you see the second one (even better). Thanks you for taking the time to react and edit these. I know it takes a lot of effort. Thanks again. You made me smile.
Henceforth, she's also a first in my eyes. She truly respects Sadness for what she's been trying to do to Riley. Whereas other reactors never realized the importance of Sadness until the end and just continuously shat on her throughout the entirety of their reactions.
This is such a unique original movie. Loved your reaction! You realized what a lot of reactors don't: that Sadness isn't bad but is just as necessary any of the other emotions. Until you pointed it out I didn't realize that Riley's imaginary world was being demolished because she was growing older.
Not necessarily her imaginary world, more like the content of the imaginary world. Out with the princess houses and Barbie Dream Land and in with boys, vampires and anime or what have you.
