      he didn't mean to roast the inactive people using a military grade, he just meant it literally, since common objects in the purse, such as keys, can scratch the phone.

    i prefer a shatter proof plastic than scratch resistance. because i can simply but a glass screen protector to protect it. much cheaper than have to deal with cracked glass

      TheGreatgan yeah, you have a point also tho, if you have apple care, its $29 and cheaper depending on an iphone model… galaxys is $200, plus phone insurance. Id have the active if i didnt want to spring for the insurance. Also what happens with heat? The s7 got really hot in my hand when i used it does rhe s7 active have the issue

    • @tecknows
      @tecknows 7 років тому +5

      The top plastic layer, as shown above (only he thinks he ruins it) can be completely removed by applying heat and using unique techniques. Then, slap a Zagg over it. I think after what I am witnessing in these video's that I will do that when my screen get's scratched enough. Mine came with two divets in the polycarbonate layer straight from Samsung.

      @adeelrehman7692 7 років тому +8

      Why don't phones just come with plastic screens, and rim around the screen?
      That way, when you put on a glass protector, the phone becomes flush, as opposed to glass protectors protruding so much right now.

    The S7 Active does NOT have a plastic screen. it has a removable
    polycarbonate layer to help with shatter resistance. it is GG4
    underneath. i would know i have 2 of them.
    Like so people can see.

    *me watching this on my Samsung s7 active*
    Also, IM A KID I KNOW THAT, but my dad took underwater pictures with this phone and it was able to stay underwater for a few minutes everytime. It worked perfectly after, and i'm now currently using it. So it is 'waterproof' for a few minutes, being fully submerged. And the plastic cover is just a protection from the glass cover on the other side. Just saying. Love your videos! Don't be mad at me-

    Just put a glass screen protector on that thing and it'll last for forever.
    Also the design of the screen can be aplied with the glass on top, the rubber will absorb shocks and make the glass more resiliant.

    I love your tests keep up the great work.
    scratching screen is not a issue for me, I use screen protection.
    I can't find this phone for sale anywhere, in Norway they don't sell it.
    I agree with metal housing,
    this is not good enough,
    The phone needs a proper housing/chassis, and,metal all over, and rubber covers like it already has for grip,
    would give much better protection, but I would still get a case for it.
    maybe there is no good enough phone for me, I want a mountain bike crash proof phone, with great camera, and phone that works no matter what, and does not overheat.

  • @prophet3091
    @prophet3091 3 роки тому +1

    Update from the future (with tldr), having used this phone since 2016:
    All scratches on the screen are small, shallow, and superficial. Unless specifically looking for them, I don't notice them at all (like how you always see your nose but never notice it)
    Despite taking many drops and impacts that would leave an iphone in pieces, it is still in working order
    The sides of the phone (both metal and rubber) have noticeable nicks, pits, and scratches
    Practically all of the paint on the back of the phone and the bumpers had worn off
    The main camera's glass has been pulverized and removed, and is now covered with medical tape
    The sim tray has corroded from presumably sweat and is heavily pitted (all pits are shallow, however, only affecting the surface layer. The tray can still be used as normal, and the seal is still perfectly intact)
    The battery has aged more or less as expected (leaning towards slightly better than average, but could still go for a replacement)
    It seems as though over time the storage has become bloated, it runs significantly slower, and it can become rather hot when running for long periods, especially while charging
    Overall, I'm quite satisfied. Apart from the camera, all wear and tear is primarily cosmetic, or would be the same from any phone. It certainly shows heavy signs of use, but it is still a reliable piece of fully functional equipment, which I think is what they intended. Regardless of the damage, it keeps on running, even if it turns out a little worse for wear.
    TL;DR: Almost all wear and tear, save broken main camera, is either unavoidable, like battery life, or purely cosmetic, like scratches. Even if it gets damaged or scuffed up, you can trust it to keep on running.

    not sure what people are complaining about, this is the toughest low maintenance phone ive ever owned, just slapped a quality screen protector last year when i got it and looks as good as new! not to mention the 4000mah god mode battery it has!!!

  • @yougregor
    @yougregor 8 років тому +1

    Plastic screen is actually a good idea, because even the best kinds of glass still shatter when dropped. But I don't know why nobody sells a phone with a plastic screen and a preinstalled tempered glass screen protector (which would be also sold separately).
    In essence you would have a scratch resistant phone with easily replaceble "front glass".

    What a thick rubber on the sides which reduces impact when drop. No wonder it has military grade. And for the screen please try to crack it on your tear down, I believe it's Gorilla Glass 4 covered with plastic to make it shatterproof. So if the plastic cover removed it will just like any other smartphone screens with Gorilla Glass 4.

    It's a pity you didn't test the water resistance before you cut up the rubber. I know it really is only rated for water resistance but after having mine for 2 years now and swimming with it in a pocket several times a year, I really can vouch for it holding up as if it was water proof instead.

      Tyranitoons flashing a rom isn't too easy if you don't know what you're doing and definitely isn't very convenient... Shouldn't have to run a rom just to remove bloatware in the first place. But that's pretty much any carrier for you

    Ok, so I want to ask: Have you thought about using heat again to remove the Poly-Carbonate top layer? This is something I am curious about. They say the Top Layer is Poly-carbonate, and the screen is actually Corning Gorilla Glass 4. If the top layer can be removed with heat, that is >AWESOME< as a way to refresh your phone from scratches. Then you can just go buy a Zagg Glass screen protector and keep it perfect. I am thinking about doing it with my daily, but if someone was willing to do it first to verify that would be incredible.

    Wow.... watching this in 2019 and got used to seeing scratches on level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7. Seeing a level 3 scratch is surpriso

    I get the point of a plastic screen. It won't spiderweb crack or shatter. But to be completely honest with you I would prefer a glass screen that might shatter but won't scratch, because despite having owned smartphones since being in 6th grade I've only once ever shattered a screen.

    As a person who owns this phone and has owned it for the past 2 years, I have thrown this across rooms and on concrete. Screen has not broken, however, it is extremely scratched with 90% of them being from my keys in my pocket. Though, the only fatal issue for me is the screen will begin to have permanent lines of pixels discolord to be pink or purple. It mostly happens when the phone overheats, which it does A LOT. Using a case even expidites the time it takes to happen. For this, i would never suggest this phone. Besides, I honestly prefered the Nokia Lumia 830 I had a few years ago. Windows phones were underrated imo, Sad to see them gone.
