Well I'm far from an expert but I think that's normal.. I think the points are open.. so you're using the ignition switch like points you're turning on and off the coil and when you do so.. you're inducing the jump from low voltage to high voltage inside the coil consequently the spark plug is now sparking..
Might be the switch or maybe the coil. Replace your plug wires also.

This has a Mallory ignition system. I guess I thought that it wouldn’t spark unless the timer is moving.
It should only spark when you spin the moter over

Could be bad connection from the switch, grease connector's ?? On switch ? May help
I believe it’s the switch too. I’ll be changing that out soon

Yes. I will shoot a short when I have a moment. It ended up being the Mallory module itself. Had to have it tested and ended up getting it replaced
