Many priests and Bishops criticise people going from one retreat centre to another or church to church. Ordinary people find solace in this because what they are going through is so unbearable. . Theoretically what you say is ideal,but in practical life very often impossible. To sit and meditate and be grateful when ones life is collapsing like a house of cards. I really believe that if there had been no retreat centres the suicide rate would have been much higher.
