Trilian actually has lots of noises, but you'd essentially have to build your own multi to include them from the patch library.
My favorite and most realistic sounding is the Ample. Percussive sounds and slide noises are on point
Mike, your ace...you've done it again. I stumbled across your Upright Bass video - brilliant thank you again!
Great help, just what I needed. Also like the relaxed vibe of the video. Thumbs up!
Great demo! Was looking for a VSTi in a hurry and yr video sold me on the Ample sounds upright. Thanks a million for yr help with that! :-)
The Trillian sounded ‘recorded too hot’. In my headphones there was distortion. But, I really thought the Ample was by far the best sounding. Thank you!
Yes, I agree.
Wonderful vid, just what I was looking for!
Fantastic review - I will be checking out several of those options 👍🏻😀
Thank you for the video, a nice comparison! I am a bass player, the Ample sound is the best sounding to me. nature, clean and realistic! There is another great upright bass plugin that I'd like to recommend----Simple Jazz Bass by Flurry Audio.
I've owned UVI's The Upright for about 4 years. The patch recorded with overhead mics (OVH) is particularly good. Sits very well in a modern Jazz track, like something in the style of groups like Gogo Penguin for example.
Thanks for the video.I was looking for a non Kontakt upright bass and as an old guy on a budget, the Monroe looks pretty good.
Thanks for the video and the comments below, I thought the ample bass sounds the best and will be purchasing that ASAP.
That was very helpful, thanks.
My opinion, I liked the Ample Bass Upright the most. It's on my wish list for next year, along with something for violin, cello, and piano.
Love Amplesounds guitars and one day will be getting the upright bass. For now making do with the NI library bass. Sounds fine in context.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I used the library bass for a long time. Nice tone!
Just found your channel. It’s great! Thanks!!
Subscribed 👍🏻
Thanks Joey! I hope you can find a few things that are useful. What kind of music are you making?
@@CreativeSauce I play Jazz, Latin and pop :)
I'd never heard of Amplesound until yesterday - when I watched this. I love the upright bass sound and it's stunning on this plugin. It's also on sale ATM. (July 2020)
I bought the Amplesound for 177US$. I couldn't get it to work. I gave up after 2 months. I put the loss down to experience. Very dissapointing.
@@TranquiloTrev Thanks for the warning, I couldn't work out how to get a working demo and gave up! I might just see if I can get some real musicians to play parts for me!
Very interesting now I know which one I'm going to choose!
Thank you!
So which one was it? Don't leave us hangin!!
@@CreativeSauce 5:04 thus one from Ample Sound. It sounds really good
I bought Ample's Upright Bass for $119. It sounded the most authentic and has many ways to tweak the sound whilst recording.
Yes I agree, I use it all the time.
Top tip! I felt this one stood out for me too out of all five in this video, and noticed the timing is perfect with their sale on so have also just purchased it!
@@robertsinnerman7804 oh that's cool. Didnt know they have a sale now!
@@CreativeSauce Yes, for the rest of August. Up to 65% off!
Is the ample sound library compatible with Kontakt?
For slaps etc you increase treble and increase noise
Thanks for this video. I do have a question, though: I have a bass guitar, and although I can use other sounds from the library that include Clean, Crunch and Experimental bass, how can I get that upright acoustic sound? I can only find it within the piano sounds. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Can you do a video on the best kontakt vocal libraries like exhale and other libraries or vst
thank you! just a great video.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, thank you for taking the time to make such an objective and to-the-point comparison! Subbed to the channel :)
Thanks for this. I would have included the VSL Upright Bass, though, which is a great, very live sounding bass with MANY articulations, bowed, plucked, slapped, and tapped bass top sounds, for less than $70 US.
Bass...ic! Great informative vid!
I think Art Vista's Back Beat Bass is a great option if you want the Rockabilly sound with the slaps.
Trilian has the percussive sounds - see Eric Persing's demo of the product.
I have trillian, love it. The others sound great. Everyone should check out Bolder Sounds upright bass, sounds really awesome
Great!, thank you
Exactly what I was looking for, THANK YOU!
Ample Sound sounds the best, but pricy. NI sounds warm, cheaper as you get other things, limited but could be enough. Trillian so much distorted, maybe with other settings could be better? For now I'd stick with Native..but if I upgrade it will be Ample for sure.
great channel. subbed.
Thank you, and welcome!
Not only did I not get that with my Komplete Ultimate purchase, but I can't even find the library on their website. You actually never said the name so I looked under "band"
Muchas gracias!!!
the video is great, except for the darkness. maye put on some lights :). keep up the good work
Absolutely! I struggle with this a little at times between my light and my camera! I hope this was the worst example! Thanks for watching:)
Orange tree samples Core Bass sounds nice but I can't use it to record because it is noisy, with many artefacts becoming apparent on held notes. This may be true of the others I don't know. Always try before you buy where possible.
Hi mike, have you checked the new NI session Upright bass ?
Try the upright bass coming with the free basic library of UVI Workstation. It's really amazing.
I'll give that a try, thanks for the heads up!
I have UVI Workstation 3, and it doesn't seem to provide an upright bass. Did you get it with an older version, or am I just not looking in the right place? I'm double-clicking the bar that says "Double-click to open browser", then clicking "instruments" under the "search" menu.
@@MelodiousThunk you have to install the 'AS FREE Collection bundle' from their website.
Amplesound 👍👍
I think the Ample Upright was by far the best of the five, but I have such little use for it that I could not justify the full retail price. I went with the Adam Monroe and I am sorry to report that even with the $15 price tag - it was a little disappointing. However I found a great work around. I run two bass midi tracks - one assigned to Adam Monroe and the other assigned to the Acoustic Bass in Cakewalk's TTS-1 and it sounds pretty nice. You can blend them, use the Adam Monroe for the amount of articulation that you want and the TTS-1 for the amount of big bottom that you want.
Nice tip!
Is Adam Monore Comparable with SWAM Double Bass v3? I think they sound very simular, but SWAM has much more articulations and tweaks, it is just an excellent orchestral instrument though

Thnx
Please can you tell me is this upright bass featured in komplete 12 ultimate edition ? I am just looking for double bass ( or upright ) plugin right there and i found some in strings but if i am right this are only played by bow, and i want to use it for more jazz colored music - same like you did - so this is no use ... but i don't see plugin called upright bass - so i don't know if this is part of some pack - and if which please? I cannot install all of them and check for my self because of space ... thanks a lot !!!
Kontakt factory lib. sounds good but Its affected by cc11 (expression).
This is very annoying because you cant split it with another instrument that uses expression, like say, accordion. When you raise or lower the exp on the accordion, same thing happens to bass, when actually you want the bass to remain steady on the same volume (exp.).
Im sold on the second one! 15 dollars?!!
You should try Logic Bass library too... quite real
But then i would first have to downgrade from PC to Mac.
Have you ever heard Vienna Symphonic Upright Bass? Any thoughts in comparison to Ample's Upright?
I havnt tested it, but in the demos it sounds great! So then the next thing is, usability. Have you tried it?
@@CreativeSauce No... it's $85, so a little cheaper than Ample. But haven't tried it....not finding many demos on You Tube. Thanks for the review!
Did you say that Ample's low E string does not detune..? Like detune it to D.. That won't work? Gotta tune in Dmin, and it would be great to get a low D
Man those sound great but damn, no free ones. Yes I'm a tight bastard :-)
Core bass requires the full version of kontakt 😭
Ample sound has an annoying board slap on the low notes. Wish it's controllable as it gets tiring after a while.
Check Bolder Sounds "Roots Upright Bass" .. it's special
Im trying to know if ample sounds bass compatible with ableton 10?
yes, it is, it's a vst (don't know about mac)
Modwheel's Lowdown V2?
It's a shame I didn't know about that one. It looks like they brought out a very serious contender there. I may well give it a review by itself!

Make your mind
I know this post is old
. i cannot believe Art Vistas backstreet Bass is not in the top %. In my opinion it blows theses out of the water. The go to vst for rock a billy bass
Adam Monroe 2:48
core bass 4:04
Ample sound 5:32
Trillian 7:27
i,ve used trillian upright but i really struggle cleaning up the very boomy low end. Any recommendations on how to get rid of that and have a smoother sound upright bass ?
I think like many virtual instruments, you need to EQ to taste. Personally I like either fabfilter or isotopes EQs where I can listen for certain problematic frequencies. fabfilter latest EQ also has a dynamic feature which I find useful for this kind of thing.
The free Kontakt one is pretty smooth.
Spoiler: the packs are not free
