Well worth remembering. The two leaders of the tournament, Nordirbek and Gukesh are 19 and 17 respectively. Remarkable young talents, both of them (and don't ignore how young Alireza and Pragg, both doing reasonably well in this tournament, are either). It augurs very well for the future of chess.
Nodirbek is such a tactical beast with more solid play than Alireza. This was top-notch calculation and he found his way out of the tactical forest while leaving Ju Wenjun behind.
Nodirbek missed a few moves that would've been better and was lucky Ju Wenjun isn't 2700+ rated and more capable of capitalizing on those inaccuracies. But it was these inaccuracies that led up to a board filled with landmines. Brilliant fun game to watch though. I'm no savant and can't remember all the games I've watched over the years, but this game I think would make top 20 out of the thousands I've watched... Real mind effer this one is.
During that same tournament in Toronto Magnus said that he has huge potential and upside, but also implied that he wasn’t ready to win it all. Not against the big dogs. He has the talent but not the mental game. He had wesley beat but got nervous and cautious in the final Armageddon and it lost him that final match. And then Wesley fell to the same nerves against Magnus. Exactly like Magnus knew both of them would. When he beat caruana in the semifinals he knew without a doubt he had already won the tournament and he made that very clear in his pregame interviews before the final match. Planting that in Wesley’s head knowing exactly how it would affect him. Psychology is real 😂

This is one of those games that makes you understand why a top player can be in time trouble after move 20 or so....there's so many calculations that it boggles my mind that a person can do it.
Nodirbek took Anish on a nice c4 forest trail in the Petroff earlier, now he takes Ju Wenjun on a similar tour of c4 in the Italian. This move in the opening is paying him with interest when it matters.
There is no greater award to a player on this channel than the highly coveted Morphy Head. Said head comes in but one variety -- there are no visages of Fischer, Kasparov, or Carlsen.
Pause the video moment is just something many of might go wrong. So many pieces with different powers on the board, so many candidate moves and differing lines. GM chess is really more magical and rich compared to positions like what player in my level might play.
@rohan1864 true especially in the candidates there's 3 in there - just feel like Nordibek got it he even is one of the few recent players who beat Magnus in classical - Alireza is just so talented also but he needs to focus 100%.. Gukesh out of the Indians had the best chance to compete with them 2, Pragg and vidit don't have killer instincts
A lot of pain can be avoided by not accepting the piece sacrifice in such situations, but sadly, we humans always end up going for it. I mean rather than following the path that your opponent has carefully calculated, with his gambit, how about letting him play with an extra pawn or two, instead focussing on getting your position defendable.
I take it Bobby Fischer would have changed his famous saying had he ever known of Stephen Hawking Then again what is true strength? Nodirbek doesn't look like any chess player from history. His style, attitude is entirely different. He will create history as Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
His style is just different. It hits differently. He is like Mike Tyson. His moves hit like a blow. Can give you brain damage.
His playstyle does remind me a bit of Kasparov but he's still unique.
Unique in what??
Why are they inviting these chinese instead of other deserving players. What are they thinking? Too many chinese alreadyyyyyyy🪰🪰🪰🪰🪰

Absolutely stunning.
This game was actually pretty easy to calculate: captures, captures, captures, and after that, maybe captures, captures.
yeah just play the best move innit
That "maybe" encapsulates the game.

What a game!! And What an explanation with all those extra lines, brother Antonio❤️

It’s a bit anti-positional to combine e4 and c4 weakening d4. But clearly Nodirbek is getting exactly the kind of positions he wants.
Great game!!!
great commentary!!!
Thank you!
bro... change Abasov by Nodirbek.... he could win candidates
Nordirbek led her to Chessland's darkest forest where only medieval creatures like Leela and stockfish survive. Where 2+2 is 5 and 2x2 is 20.
