- Remove Tie-Rods & Ball Joints EASILY, WithOut Ruining Seals.
This is a very simple, easy method to remove tie rod ends or ball joints with out damaging the rubber seals. You don't need any special tools to remove tie rods or ball joints most of the time. You don't need a pickle fork or a ball joint separator to remove tie rod ends and ball joints. The only tool you need to remove inner and outer tie rod ends and upper & lower ball joints is a big hammer. By striking the side of the joint that the ball joint or tie rod is pressed INTO, Not the tie rod or ball joint itself, it will cause the tie rod or ball joint to pop out without damaging the seals. Of course remove the castle nut first. The shock of the hammer blow works to pop out the tie rod or ball joint. A heavier hammer works best.
Spent an hour and a half trying to get the sucker out.. watched this video and boom out in 10 seconds! Thanks man!
Worked on my 84 Accord hatchback. 5-6 good whacks with a framing hammer!
Was skeptical but worked like a charm. Easiest ball joint removal ever.
thank you! couldn't get c10 spindle off. found this video 5 min ago. literally just beat spindle and it came off! thanks.
The first time I changed a tie rod I took a 2 lb sledge hammer and beat it out the same way he did and the whole time I'm thinking my neighbors looking at me like I'm crazy taking a hammer to my suspension. Hell, you do what you have to do to get things done.
Thanks brother from S.C glad i stopped what i was doing and watched.
Wow -- you are awesome! Thanks for the help.
Thanks from NY 👍🏻
this was very helpful! thanks !
This worked right away. I don't know why this is not more widely known. Why do they even sell tools for this?
Gotta say, I was skeptical too, spent almost an hour with the fork, did it in 1 minute with a 10oz ball peen lol. Thank you sir.
I was not expecting to see a samurai - hell ya, i love sammies!
Good stuff man!
hey thanks for the tips, I like your humor too
thanks man needed that info
Omg worked in like a minute. I been trying to get that shit out since last Tuesday
Lmao
Thanks.. for the video
Yes, this will work every time. If it's rusted on, don't give up, it will work.
Lies.
Thanks, saved my boots!
After removing the castle nut, put it back on so the castle is facing inwards. Thread it enough so the nut's on well but not too much that there's thread protruding through. Then hit the nut with a hammer.
That DOESN'T work and will fuck it up.
This is a terrible idea and a great way to get your castle nut stuck on the tie rod
Worked second go just hold the tie rod to put some weight on it then wack the hub thing and it pops out
the 80's are calling they want their drop light back
Do you have to remove the tire to get the outer tie rod off?
Wow! So what am I gonna do with this new pickle/tuning fork? Can I use it on an old ball joint that I'm going to replace , where the boot is messed up anyway? I wonder if I can use it to tune my piano?
You can also use the hammer to tune the piano. Very gently...
I love this guy lol
Kind of RAMBO talk..😀
👍👍🍻🍻
Nice
You cant use this method on an aluminum steering knuckle .
Unless it’s pitman arm where you can’t get a hammer in there
Example would be removing power steering gear box to take the pitman arm off
if u flip the castle nut around n level it almost level with the top of the stud, i mean like 50 thousandths or the width of the average credit card, whiches probably about half that actually, ok-the point is that ur hopefully hit mostly the nut but also transfer some of the force to the stud also so all the force isnt on the nut and therefor threads, iv honestly never had problems with "pushing" threads when beating on them, other than when it jus didnt matter n shit was bein stubborn anyway since then iv got smart n started lookin for just about any kinda press or puller n absolutely nothin can put up a fight anymore :p ...as far as pullin stuff off lol lets b clear u have got to keep ur threads clean n greased tho! the grease collects the really abrasive metal dust n quite literally turns to heavy cutting compound and ur constantly runnin it with high force n pressure basically machining the surfaces down and creating alot of play in the tool, or the threads jus get mangled from all the use and abuse iv always loved takin apart n servicin my stuff tho, its nice to get in there n tighten everything up clean up connections blow out the cobwebs new grease oil take 30 seconds to spray it a little rubbin alcohol wipe it off then take another 30 seconds to spray it, its really enjoyabe n satisfying stuff u dont have to take 400 million years n lay out everything perfect wipe down every thread, this stuff goes fast, its not a tool refurbish its a service or maintenance, technically service but... jesus i jus went n deleted a bunch of stuff so this wasnt a dam book n here it is... worse than before i give up.. i type too dam fast :p it all jus flows
That might not work too well if your suspension is made out of aluminum like mine is.
did you notice a difference in fuel mileage after the truck bed paint
don't wanna booger up the boot!
Been hammering on a new tie rod I just installed 3 hrs ago...and the thing is stuck.
Tried this on a pitman arm for centre link removal. The bastard won't budge. 3lb or 4lb hammer.... no movement.
I've been doing this for an hour on my 97 civic lower control arm and it won't work. Saw someone do it in a video with the same car only took two hits. I'm doing it just like him. Tried wd40. Might have to just hit the pickle fork... Damn...
Hit the gym four days a week bud..👍
@@thegoodguy1702 👍👍👍👍👍
Beat the snot out of that spot on my 2005 Sienna... to no avail. With a BIG hammer too.
web I got a 07 how did you get it off of there
ham shank he's still hitting it
You sound just like a UA-camr who does videos about vitamins and health food!
correct
if you want to change the wheel bearing only, that is when you do this. lol
Mike MacD that is the ONLY reason for me to watch this video lol
You can't do that on Porsche Aluminium parts though.. ?
or Nissan altima
Your hammer handle looks WAY more like a pickle than the pickle fork
Hammered like crazy and it didn’t come out. Pickle fork didn’t take it out. Tried moving the steering wheel side to side and it didn’t loosen. Fuck tie rods and screw this trick I’m gonna be stuck in an autozone parking lot
Lol i did not think that was gunna work
But do it.!!!
Thanks. Wish I watched this before buying that piece of crap Chinese tool from Napa.
This does not alway work.
Most mechanics use a hammer. That procedure is incorrect!
Please, please help!!! We were in an accident, the car hit our right front tire and above our right front tire. At the time, the body shop said the "alignment was fine" and replaced the tire. This was in October. This month, there is a "squelching" sound when I turn the steering wheel and a "squelching" sound (like a dog toy), when we go over bumps or hit potholes. I was told by Ford that it was the suspension. A small garage we went to, told me that "it was probably the tie rods" and he said he would put a small hole in the "boot" and inserted a straw and filled it with lubricant. I told him I did not want this, but he did it anyway. It did not make the noise go away, but now I am concerned about what damage this may do---after the fact, I did some more reading and I found out this is not good at all. He also told me my tie rod was bad, and showed me how the front wheel would not move. I found out that this is a good thing for the wheel not to have a lot of play.
Can you respond about all of this, please????
@3:22
wtf
That dosnt work all the time.
Lies.
if you want to change the wheel bearing only, that is when you do this. lol
