A younger Michael Imperioli (aka Christopher Moltisanti from the Sopranos) would have played a perfect Joey Merlino. They looked exactly alike. They don't look quite so much alike anymore, but back in the 90s and 2000s they look like they could be brothers if not twins.

I grew up in southwest but had many friends in South Philly. I used to joke with them about some of the guys we used to see. They had a certain way about them, the way they talk and walk. I used to see The old timers on passyunk avenue scolding the younger guys on the corner. They would talk while covering their mouth acting like they were smoking a cigarette. But they would be real animated with the other hand so you could tell when they were chewing one of the young guys out. Maybe it's just me but I've always have been very aware of my surroundings.

Love & respect to Mr. “Skinny” Joey Merlino 💯. He put in his own work to get where he is. On those “lone assailant” hits before he was The Man you can bet your ass it was HIM. No one to tell on you that way. THAT is American style for ya. Did more for the poor, orphaned, and homeless in South Philly than the politicians ever will. Did his time like a man rather than cooperate and being an ex-con myself I respect that because far too often these “tough guys” end up being little girls the second they get pinched and realize they are actually going to prison UNLESS ....... they sell out the only people that ever loved them or treated them with respect. I was offered that deal and chose the path I always claimed I’d take in that situation. I did 2,316 days of my life in prison and can meet my own gaze in the mirror just fine because of it. Joey I’m sure was offered even sweeter deals than me yet he chose the same path I did. That tells you that he won’t sell anyone out to buy his future. That’s called INTEGRITY, which is something else politicians are lacking. It’s a damn shame that if you work for the crook WITH integrity you can go to prison yet if you work for the crooks with NO integrity (politicians) it’s legal. Who’s running the REAL rackets in our country lol

Genovese Family played Caponigro “like a damn fiddle”. The Genovese Family hadn’t yet revealed that they used front bosses and the other Families believed Tieri to be the boss. Tieri told Caponigro that the Commission was behind him. Tony Bananas goes to NY believing The Commission was going to name him the new boss of Philly.
Instead, he goes to a basement and seated is Frank Tieri, Bobby Manna, Tony Salerno, and Chin Gigante. Chin immediately starts laying into him about who gave him the ok to whack Bruno. He blames it on Tieri. Tieri denies he said that and next, Caponigro is getting beat to death.
Afterwards, Bobby Manna took over Caponigro’s North Jersey rackets. The Genovese Family took over as the representatives of the Philly Mob on The Commission and Chin told Nicky Scarfo that AC had to be divided amongst the 4 NY Families, with the Genovese Family getting the biggest share. (Bonnanos were blackballed due to the Donnie Brasco thing).
Knowing that Chin wouldve never done this had Don Carlo been alive, you can imagine what the guys in the Gambino Family thought of Castellano for allowing such a blatant power play that not only strengthened the Genovese Family, but simultaneously weakened the Gambino Family.

Saw him playing sandlot ball while visiting a friend in Philly 35 or 40yrs ago. He didn't kill the umpire, but the umpire didn't walk right again!

People criticize nickys violent ways but I kind of feel for him in a way. Both bosses before him had been killed within a years time because of treason which caused his antenna to always be up for treason. In a way he had to be that way to protect his empire and show guys he wasn’t one to mess with

Too much senseless killing, the mob basically wasted too many good friends of theirs. Other crime organizations can move in on their territory.

Loads of incorrect facts in here.
    Firstly the salvie testa murder.
Scarfo did not want him to get married and was actually pleased when it didn't go through.
Also Tony bannanas was given the go ahead by the genovese Street boss Funzi tieri who then double crossed him. The genovese wanted brunos rackets which netted millions.

They wanted Tony bananas numbers rackets in Newark which was worth millions and they wanted their foot in Atlantic City which they would get from Scarfo being connected to Bobbie manna and the Westside bananas had a sit down that he won against funzy never forget them siggys even time
