Does anyone else prefer the feel of the rugby world cup 2011 game? I really liked how structured it was and how the backline had set moves. I think that the new games are too chaotic which makes them not that fun especially when defending.
Yeah. I mean RWC 2011 was a bit underwhelming compared with Rugby 08 since it was only internationals and only half of those were properly licenced. I totally agree about the feel of the game though. There's a lot of moving parts in 2022 but maybe not the budget to properly execute them. A lot of the features on display during that training mode seem like good ideas in theory. Maybe it's an option in game but I think I'd hate to play with that camera angle, especially as the "farther away" team. Give me the tv-style side-on angle any day of the week. Edit: Just got to the part where they change the camera lol
I think the major diff I can think of is passing. In both 08 and WC11, passes are much faster, here they're a bit floaty witch feels both unrealistic and frustrating.
yeah 2011 is super underrated gameplay-wise, it was a good step up from 08 but just lacked the licenses and game modes. Still play it on an old X360 I have.
Looks pretty good and the best game in long time. Lack of player and team editor is very disappointing though. I still remember downloading player and team backs for the first rugby challenge. Should be standard on any game without licences
Really promising stuff by the looks of it. I buy every rugby game released so far on PS4 and now PS5 (even platinumed Rugby 20 thanks to lockdown 🏆) so although I’m not expecting miracles with Rugby 22 it does look like they’re heading in the right direction 🤞
I feel like they need to licence teams or make editing easy (see the Big Ant cricket games) because playing with actual teams and players is huge. Looks good though
@@treecko7424 The reason why I think World Rugby should intervene is to stop the division between Rugby XX and Rugby Challenge. Which means putting all of the licenses in 1 game.
the "subtitles" for Pichot and Beaumount at the start have had me laughing for the last 10 minutes omg. I know I'm 2 years too late ... but pure genius HAHA. "Hooligans gentleman played by values" 🤣
I got the game. I knew it would be seriously janky, however if you know what you're in for and can look past the clunkiness it can be quite fun. Its always nice to see a nice series of phases result in a try. I think given a higher budget and a more experiences development team like (I dare say) EA or better yet Sony or 2K this series could be excellent and could open the world up to Union a bit more :)
Nerdy correction re: scrums. 'Channel 1' doesn't actually mean quick heeled ball that comes out quickly. It refers to the position that the ball emerges. Channel 1 is when the ball comes out betwen the blindside and the lock. Channel 2 is the number 8's feet. Channel 3 is between the other lock and the openside.
I find it odd that there's no mention of Rugby Challenge 4. It seems to be better in every way, feels more realistic to play, looks a bit nicer with better animations, be a pro mode, WAY more customisation...yet no one ever seems to know it exists? I'm confused.
I fully agree. Thought RC3 was very good, rc4 very accurate with rosters, plus you can download very accurate teams and players with more customisable features. gameplay is actually fun, easy and challenging. yet it gets no recognition
As a fervent critic of Eko Software in the past, I've got to say I'm impressed by their effort but it still doesn't cut it. They put a LOT of work into the passing mechanism and set piece play. This is probably their best area of improvement compared to their main rival, WW's Rugby Challenge 4. But along with improved graphics, that's it! Open play is shambolic. Players still float around erratically, whether in attack or in defence, and they tend to stand a bit too flat. It just feels like a poorly-coded game. If anyone of these two big rivals manages to nail the fundamentals, they'll take a considerable lead in this race to dominance on the market. Right now, Rugby Champions is the game that has it nearly spot on. Someone needs to take Rugby Challenge's fluidity + animation, mix it up with Rugby 22's set piece + passing + realistic body kinetics + graphics and Rugby Champions' superior game mechanics (player positioning mainly) and you've got yourself a decent rugby video game.
Here's to hoping Rugby 24 is better. It was supposed to be out by now, but it's been delayed until Jan 30 2024. RC3 & RC4 have been taken off the steam store due to licenses expiring. So, I'm holding out hope for Rugby 24 having even more licenses as well as great gameplay.
Thanks Robbie! It's such a shame rugby doesn't have an equal to FIFA as I know that's a big reason for people getting into football - myself included. However Rugby 22 looks fun with friends so will definitely give it a go!
Did anybody else every play Pro Rugby Manager on PC? I loved that game so much. It was more like Football Manager than FIFA but it was so addictive. There were so many fun glitches that made it amazing. For instance, the AI would never renew it's players comtracts so you could literally end up with a squad of like 70 5 star players. Although if you did that you'd bankrupt the club, but it was still fun 😂 I remember doing a save file with Toulouse and I had Jonny Wilkinson, Dan "Curter" "Botch" James and Matt "Geteau" all competing for the 10 position. The only thing was they didn't have southern hemisphere players licensed so they'd all have fake names. Felipe Contepomi was 'Felipe Cuntepomi' which always made me laugh. Pretty sure they devs were French though and they definitely didn't see the joke in that. But yea the only licensed players were the ones who played in England or France. Dimitri Szarewski and Yannick Nyanga still played for Beziers too so they were must poach players. I tried loading it up on my laptop over lockdown but it wouldn't work, was gutted. Tbf it came out in like 2005 and it wasn't a mainstream game or development team so I suppose I shouldn't have got my hopes up.
What Accessibility features are available? Am partially sighted, miss Rugby 08, but don’t hugely fancy trying to make that run and getting down to Tonga in World Cup wins again. Though winning the WC with Big FAZ and no Jonny might be fun.
Not watched it all yet but it does look like an improvement. The last game was frustrating for really basic reasons. Bonus points never counted. Nothing tracked the top try scorers. Nothing to do with gameplay and no excuses for it at all. As for gameplay, I see players still go very fat randomly. I'll probably still buy and support it, but the fourth version needs to be complete and free flowing
Squidge Rugby, now that the game has been out for a few months, it seems like the developers have abandoned the game. No new tweets since mid March and last game update was March 1st. They can get Rhys Webb's frosted tips but Rhys Priestland is listed as an English player. There is a weird amount of detail then a complete lack of it in other places. Gameplay isn't bad though
Playing it on mobile and it's not awful though the AI is hilarious, watching the winger decide if he's going to run the massive 2 on 1 I manufactured or join the ruck, and the oppo pass wide then immediately pass back into the centre and the middle of the ruck. Usually straight into my A. Ioani that I got in my first tournament.
Hello Squidge Rugby great video, sorry to be of the topic. If you don't mind me asking what software did you use to put yourself of the screen like that on the game?
Lovin the new series Squidge, but it was quite hard to hear a lot of what you and your bro were saying. Might need a couple of lapel mics going forward. Otherwise keep up the great work!
Slim pickings really with rugby games. Last one I brought was 2015 and it was fun but shallow. Just brought this for £8.99 on ps store and thats worth the punt I reckon. Slight edit. Having played it for a few days it's pretty decent. I'm shit at line outs and kicking at angles it hard but it's a fun game and we'll worth what I payed.

It used the same mechanics and presumably game code as Rugby 08.

Rugby is gaining traction in America and I hope with this that EA will make another game :(
it's 2022 and I still play that......hahah
Rugby World Cup 2011 way better
To be honest this looks a lot better than I had thought. Doesn't have too much replayability solo I feel, but with friends it'll be a decent time
I want to make a sarcastic comment about bath's team rating, but I feel this might provoke them into beating quins tomorrow...

How is it the best game in a long time when PS2 rugby games are better?

Did the same in lockdown as well, but this just looks identical to rugby 20 so far, even those voice lines I've heard millions of times
The pc version has a very accessible way of editing the aesthetics of the game, hopefully the modding community is going to deliver
So you can fix Simon Zebbos model
I feel like they need to licence teams or make editing easy (see the Big Ant cricket games) because playing with actual teams and players is huge. Looks good though
Rugby Challenge 4 already does this. Better everything else as well...
I have never seen a better transition to a sponsored ad in my life 9:49
Game looks decent but no Premiership Rugby licensing is a bit shit considering they’ve made the effort to get the commentary team for it 😂
It is hardly the game's fault that the prem demanded too much money.
@@magnuspeacock5857 I think the problem was that Rugby Challenge has exclusive rights to it.

The integrated Square Space ad is as marvelously inspiring as the game review.
Bought this game yesterday, and I will more than likely sell it tomorrow. Gameplay is diabolical
Please play rugby 08 on PlayStation 2! The greatest rugby game ever made!
It’s by far the the greatest, it’s fun but not the “greatest”
Kinda bummed they didn't put the MLR in there, that would help us here in the states get the game more coverage
ça donne envie! Et peut-être que ça suffira à rendre le jeu assez rentable pour que son développement continue.
The way attacking play works looks sooooo satisfying
Yeah it does
If they had licensed teams and fix a few thinks with the gameplay then it would've been arguably worth the purchase
Turn on performance mode next time for 60 fps. (If it has the option)

Why it can't have graphics like PES nor editable uniforms?
I watched a couple of trailers and game play clips. I didn't think it looked much different or any better than Rugby 18.
They should take rugby 08 and just updated the graphics, player list and more difficulty. That game really was just perfection.
