- Song: Open Up Your Eyes
Artist: Tonic
Album: Lemon Parade
Release: 1996
LYRICS:
Choosing stones
Big enough to drag me down
Where I am People's voices make hollow sounds
Just be quiet,they'll go away
Open up your eyes
Don't let your mind tell the story here
Open up your eyes
Just let me go
It's so safe, It's so safe floating in the glass
While above, While above all your troubles pass
Just be quite They'll go away
Open up your eyes, Don't let your mind tell the story here
Open up your eyes Just let me go
( lead )
Open up your eyes Don't let your mind tell the story here
Open up your eyes Just let me go ,let me go ,let me go
Open up your eyes Just let me go
Who still loves this is 2024 👋🏻👍🏻👏🏻💜
14 years ago I was on the bow of a ship at night, looking up at the stars, had my headphones on, played this song over and over again...I was ALONE, as the wind ran the other passengers inside, one of the greatest memories of my life...
24 years ago now😒
Thank you for sharing. I love the ocean and I love music. Beautiful man.
picked up the album when it came out and was stoned in my first apartment. Cranked this song for the first time. Same feeling.
Did you think the of Night Rider? Looking into the night sky and all, I had to ask..
Cool, man you maybe 40 now heh!?
Yes...I was also 17 at the time when this album came out. I remember working at the bowling alley after hours playing this song. My co workers and I smoked joints to lemon parade and drink beer and bowl when everyone was gone....man i miss the 90's!
The 90's were the best years of my life as well. Maybe heaven will be like them....
@Mike Head 1996, it was lead single off album. Although video was from 1998.
Hell yeah, feeling young again with this song. Takes me back to the best days of my life. Class of 1999 here.
Saw these guys at The Double Door in Chicago years ago. After the show shot pool with the guitarist in the basement. AWESOME dude.
This song is so heavy, sounds fantastic! I've been playing this song for the last hour, over and over.
Anyone still listening in 2020!?! This track still holds up!
Absolutely still listening. These guys rock even in 2021.
Yes of course. This is my most favourite Tonic song.😉--Aims
Definitely
Truly an underrated epic song
No but how about halfway thru '21? :) Trying to max out the volume but it's already there...lol...give their song "Mountain" a listen. Damn near as good but didn't get the airplay. Time to go searching for more obscure 90's bands I had CD's of....
man i forgot how fucking awesome this song was....
growing up in the 90's...i was kinda lucky to be part of the last great decade of music
Should have tried the 80's..
@@danelkington3808 90's blew away the 80's, for the most part
@@Trev0r98 uh, I don't think so fella....you obviously weren't around in the 80's....lol.
Ever had a song stuck in ur heard for years.. This is one of them for me.. Luv luv luv this!!!
Yessss! I've had this song stuck in my head since I was 10 years old
I got this CD when it was first released.
Talented ensemble and Great music!
I was born in 1992 and I'm completely obsessed with 90s Pop Culture.
Especially the music.
Similar vintage myself. Grew up on some great music. And like a lot of the 90s this song sounds like it’s in Drop D guitar tuning.
I was born 1970 in Austria. I was working in small town in the Heartland of Georgia,as I was listen this song for the first time. That was 27 years ago.I love all kind of music, from the 50's until now. But one thing is for sure. This genius album is one of the OUTSTANDING records, I ever bought. I was listen every single song more than 1000 times. And the music sounds even better, as the first time. Its just a masterpiece of Rock History👍👍👍👍
It was kindv'e a Renaissance in heavy rock.
Too bad good music seems to have vanished with
the absolute trash that passes for music today.
wow! i really feel old... 48 and still listening tonic. I LOVE THIS BAND!!!!
I remember when they used to play this song into the ground. Then, after a while I didn’t hear it for many years, until 2012, I heard it in Rite Aid and remembered how awesome it sounded.
One of the better alternative rock albums of the 1990's. Great album as a whole. So many good songs on this.
Love this song so much including The Casual Affair and If you could only see. Great songs from the mid 90s rock hits. With ♥️ from the 🇵🇭, Philippines.👍✌️✌️😉
Definitely like the album version of this song better than the video version. Not sure why they even changed it.
This is perfect as it is.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.
yes somebody who agrees. Why did they make the music video have a slightly acoustic version unlike the hard rock album version?
The guitar tracks are different for sure. The talk box is only prominent at the end of the video version . The album main guitar has a different strum pattern during the verses as opposed to the video . The two lead guitar tracks are taken out of the video during the lead portion
love this entire album!
THERE HE GOES! THE LOVER I MISSED
This song still rocks in 2022 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
And 2023!
Neglected again!
Can't believe it....
I drive away...in madness...then this tune plays on the radio waves...and I SING WITH THE RIFF. I must be quiet...I must open my eyes...and see the TEMPTATION...I must not let my mind get the best of me. I MUST NOT LET THESE STONES AND VOICES DRAG ME DOWN. I must LET GO AND TRUST IN THE MERCIFUL GOODNESS OF CHRIST; His Cup - my glass. For this, too, shall pass. But I hate it all the same...take my pain...use it Lord...and forgive me for neglecting You
This album will never get old!!
❤️❤️❤️
Two of the best Pop Rock albums of that time was this one and that third eye blind album. I’m into harder music but these 2 albums were perfectly crafted pop songs. Both are forgotten unfortunately
Such an under-rated song!
Agreed. I like this song better than If You Could Only See. Nothing against that one, it’s good. But this is so much better.
Great song, I heard this on the radio when I was painting a house once, and I was like, "who the hell is this," apparently it was a bit before my time. But I can appreciate a good song when I hear it.
Still listening in 2023 still love it as much as when I bought the album new
Excellence - pure talent. 💯
Miss the days still have the music ....
2024 😅
I love this song
❤😃
Love this song!! I was an 80's child but the 90's had some great music... such as Tonic.. ...
Holds up in 2024 too!
2023 and still kicking ass!! True Rock and Roll! I'm 66 and still digging this epic tune!!!
2022 still hitting it!!
if it was possible to produce a perfect album, and i repeat IF it
was possible...
+fred michel well I'm not sure if they will consider this advertising or something and delete this but for the 20th Anniversary they are rerecording this album all acoustic.

I had forgotten about this song! just remembered it and now I feel like I’m in high school again.
I'm here to relive the 90s because I'm old.
I was in high school when this album came out. One day you’re 17 and then it happens… you wake up one day and you’re in your 40s
Much better version than the official video version
March 2024 ❤🤟🔥
Great album! Solid music
This song was released on June 16, 1996.
4 days after I was birthed into this forsaken hellscape.
My older taught me how to play this on guitar. We taped it on vhs from MuchMusic in Canada back when it was released and learned from it. This and many other 90's songs.
Tonic very unique in the music just luv it !
Great stuff
"Casual Affair" made me buy this album and not "If You Could Only See". But this song, "If You Could Only See", "Casual Affair", and the rest of the album is awesome.
CPW1109 When did this song come out?
God just reading these comments make me feel old. Not just great track, whole album is worth a listen.
So many E. Clapton licks in this tune... from beginning to end. All you youngsters need to listen back to the 60's and recognize where all this 'great music' really originated.
This is such a beautiful tune. Timeless
First Albums, Tonic July 96, Matchbox 20 October 96, 3EB March 97. What a glorious 7 months.
My cover band played this song 20 years ago! We were the only band in the circuit (I think) to play it. Great song and album!
Saw these guys at the Rosewood Crawfish Festival in Columbia, SC on Saturday. They've always been one of my favorites from the 90's......I really miss that time........Emerson Hart still sounds awesome and I look forward to getting the new LP.
Still one of my favorite 90s bands.....they are on tour and will be in Charlotte, NC at the NC Music Factory June 22....I'll be there.
Drop D for life!
Wow someone commented on the Drop D tuning besides me. Or as I say #DropDNation
Excellent tune. The whole album is great...
greatest song that never was
superduper tune! it's got a nice groove. I remember when it came out.
Damn. Last time I listened to this song I was 9 years old. I'm going to be 31 in March. Holy crap.
I graduated in 1999 too! Tonic gave a free concert in Virginia Beach three weeks ago today. I would have gone, but it was at the same time as a Coldplay concert at the VA Bach Amphitheater, so I couldn't go.
This is a great song.
Been looking for this song since about 1997... FUCKING YES!
SLeePYG727860 hope deferred maketh the heart sick but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life😂 I know the feeling! I am on a trip of listening to nothing but these guys. Can't believe what I have been missing for so long. Bad ass riffs and open tunings, solid band!
This song is fuckin epic
01/01/2024…still yesssss
This dudes singing voice always reminded me of David from Rosanne.
Forgotten 90s song by most… and definitely sounds like Drop D tuning.
Love it!
I bought this album today without even knowing who they were.
Good news is that I like it. :D
Still listening on day 1 of 2023 \w/
Timeless.! 🎶❤️
