  • A good pair of construction boots make any outfit look edgy. Dr Martens are the quintessential classics. Affordable, fashionable, and super comfy! They are especially fabulous when worn with a frilly frock. Grunge lives on and I am SO here for it!!

My husband managed a doc marten shop for 5 years and maaaaaaan did I take advantage 🙈🙈 his favourites are a pair of 14 eyelet oxbloods from 1979 that were a present from a director, they're still in sensational condition. Absolutely unkillable

At 22 years old, I've been much more warmer around styles and fashion and different 'aesthetics' than I was as a teenager. A lot of my aesthetics and styles come from academia (light, green, a little punk - all of them siblings of the Dark Academia umbrella I'm sure you've heard of). These kinds of styles my mom has happily indulged me in, with a good few thrift finds and even some of HER clothes she wore about my age in university! (Vests, sweaters and jackets especially. Love me a good vest.)
However, one style I DESPERATELY wanna indulge more into is what my friend described as 'Children's Book Protagonist for a Retro-Fantasy Sci-Fi Adventure.' (Think Labyrinth, ET, some Star Wars, Mork of 'Mork and Mindy' and Don Bluth movies.) I know one of the components for this style is inspired by glam rock, which is very much against my mom's grain. (As if I don't already own gold skinny jeans from when I was 14 and a vintage NEON BLUE LONG TRENCH from my grandmother.)
HOWEVER. Your look with the whisky-coloured duster? MWAH. You've finally (at least started to) convinced my mom that indulging in glam rock isn't as terrifying as she once thought. **Thank you.**
(We're still trying to find a middle ground regarding docs, haha. She didn't like the weight or having to break into the ones she had to wear for school. She's also not a big punk fan, but the fact we agreed on my first pair being cherry red velvet chelsea docs for Christmas? That's saying something beautiful.)

I’ve been wearing Dr martens for 35 years. (First pair as a bday gift at 14) my faves are a pair of Victorian rose patterned canvas with pink satin ribbon laces.
Very much enjoying your videos. Thank you for reminding me that I can be myself and still dress age appropriate.

Oh boy, my first ever pair was a cherry red steel toe-capped pair (bought in one of the OG punk run DM shops in Camden Town, London). Wore them for 17 years before I got rid of them. I have a pair of black 1914 Triumphs from them that I've worn every winter for the last 8 years...I wear stompy boots with practically everything. Also, loved that final plaid dress. I happened to nab a similar shaped dress today in a charity shop, only in a blush toned leopard print. It was £4.50, I HAD to, right?!

I bought my first pair in college back in 1989 from a small punk shop by Washington Square Park. It was the first time I’d spent a lot of money on a clothing item ($60 I think, maybe less, which was a lot for this poor college student), used to wear them clubbing and then one day I got rid of them, just like that. If I could go back in time and talk some sense into me. I wish I still had those fantastic indestructible boots. You look fabulous in every damn outfit!

i love your take on doc martens. remember also that there was/is a lot of important cultural critique, enviornmental activism, and political discourse in the punk scene too. we were “kinda like a street gang . . . with an analysis. “ -line from the movie “i killed andy warhol”

Sorry to have to pick you up on this but Glam Rock happened in the late 60’s/early 70’s, Punk happened later in the 70’s/early 80’s, before the New Romantic era. I worked for DM’s for 15 years through their heyday in the late 80’s, 90’s and into the early 00’s, they were the best company to work for.
ps…OMG those brocade trousers (sorry pants) are just too beautiful!!

Although, most of my wardrobe is thrifted. I love your closet so much. I will be envious forever!! If had had been able to follow my fashion design dreams...

Since Doc Marten moved their production out of Northamptonshire the quality of their boots has crashed through the floor, which is just incredibly disappointing. Luckily the original manufacturing company, Solovair still makes boots that are basically identical to the original, extremely high quality Docs using the same machinery! If you want a "real" Doc Marten boot these days then you have to go for Solovair.
