  • The Harthope Valley. The Cheviot Hills. Northumberland.
    I met up with Pete (madDog Bushcraft) and the original plan was to head up The Hen Hole but due to Pete twisting his ankle we camped in the valley at a spot I have always wanted to stay. Many thanks to Pete for a fantastic camp even if the weather wasn't the best. We will be back. Mick.

      Cheers Geordie I've passed it loads of times and seen people camping there but this was first time for me. The flat grassy area used to be bigger but got washed away in a flood. Still a lovely spot for 2/3 tents. Atb. Mick.

    Hi Mick...loved the footage of the dipper feeding its chicks..I did read you sat for 25mins for that footage...great wee pitch, nice location. That holiday cottage is to die for...thanks for sharing..ATB ..R&D :)

      Thanks Roger&Diane. The dippers were great entertainment back and forth feeding the youngsters. Didn't want to get too close so as not to disturb them but they seemed happy enough with us there and just went about their business. Was chuffed with the feeding footage though, great how they hover to feed, not even landing. Thanks for watching and take care. Mick.

    What a wonderful trip you had--in spite of all! Great photography. Sometimes the best trips I've had have been those that were detours... What a gorgeous spot. Nice! Heavy loads--you've got better knees than I have (and more gumption!) Thanks for the sub, and for bringing me to your channel! Jules

      Thank you Jules. The knees are starting to feel it as I get older lol but the rewards are worth it I think. I dread the day I cannot do this though. I look forward to checking out your channel too. Atb. Mick.

    I have watched the accompanying "twin " video of Pete's to this one a couple of times. Nice to see a slightly different perspective sometimes. What isn't a matter of perspective however, is the choice of your overnight camping spot; definitely the Backpacker's ideal location, one that one dreams of when planning a trip somewhere in the hills. The little waterfall puts the final stamp of perfection to the whole setting.
    Strikes me also, that this was serendipity in reverse, but, paradoxically, still something of a positive result. (I am referring of course to Pete's twisted ankle).
    Anyhow, whatever, but thanks for posting the video.

    Must have missed this one Mick. Lovely spot for a wild camp, have been wanting to do that one for ages next to the waterfall at Harthope Linn. Got a new tent to try out for hill walking as tarps aren't the best option, would have been a good test with all that rain. Thanks for sharing, atb, Damian.

    Pity about Pete but better let it heal , get summits done another time.I should be trying a munro this sunday , i see how my foot deals with it.Its not getting better , i can live with a bit of pain but i hope i can still do munros , this be a test for it.You got your camp in ,you got to know Pete and its always good to be out. I see you and Pete in August.Take care.

      Cheers Eddie. Yes real shock when he slipped on the stile and little did we know at the time but two bones broken. Aches, strains and slips all part of the game I suppose, this was my first time with a big pack after my shoulder probs and felt ok so hopefully thats sorted. We're not getting any younger and aches and strains seem to take longer to heal but as long as we can still get out and about we'll go for it. It's in the blood. See you in August. Have a great time Sunday and hope your foot is ok. Atb. Mick

      For the next weekend i have a [easy] Carn Dearg for you and me on my mind Eddie. Just above Newtonmore. If only for a hike to its lower slopes. And with your luggage + tent next to the campervan - just to keep you from mauling that foot any further ...

    Great spot down there Mick! And good to check out your gear before we find you in the Cairngorms with it. Where did Pete twist is ankle? So he missed the Hen Hole then ... pity.

    • @blamhof
      @blamhof  8 років тому

      Thanks Wilco Yes good to give the gear an airing and no shoulder troubles so hopefully that's back to normal. Pete slipped on the stile just past the cottage so we thought best to stay low in the valley but still have a camp which was the right decision with him having broke two bones. The Hen Hole will be there for another day and we will return. See you soon bud. Off for an evening of Wilco vids : )

    That's the real Harthope Linn right? I think there is supposed to be two small falls along there and most people get them mixed up. I was thinking of taking Islay there... is it a difficult hike for little legs? She's Cheviot and Hedgehope Hill obsessed after I took up Ros Castle but she's not got the legs for either of those yet... maybe next year. But I thought Harthope Linn might be a good one being at the base of Cheviot.

      You park at the small bridge just before Langleeford. You turn off the Wooler road and head to North Middleton, then from there toThe Harthope Valley and Langleeford.
