    I really love this performance: beautiful melodies bringing together two cultural idioms (the traditional, rural, almost ancient and the modern era electronica), once separated by time and distance but now unified by music. Magnificent!!

    Hi guys! Keep on making "Berlin school alive!".
    About piano in BS music, I think TD used it a whole lot in the seventies on Ricochet part II

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  9 років тому +1

      MrKayMrKay Thank you for your comment. It's highly appreicated. I have to research the "grand piano on stage" matter a bit more, but as far as I remember Peter Baumann was using a modified piano for some early records. The band was also using Fender Rhodes Pianos. The piano solo at the beginning of Ricochet Part 2 was recorded at the Manor Studio, thus it was not live on stage.

      Ebenso Danke: leider hat das Recorder mein Sound beschissen. Das ist eigentlich ein Live, welches am 3-Juli stattgefunden hat, und die wenigen, die am Party geblieben sind (ich startete um 3 AM),haben sich gut amüsiert. Neidisch bin ich deswegen, weil hier sich solche Studios nicht vorfinden können. Dazu sind die Kerls aus dem Video echt toll! Also Toi Toi Toi und wir erwarten weitere Videos der Art :)

    As early as 1976 Edgar Froese played acoustic piano in TD........ (Stratosfear).

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  9 років тому +2

      +Jos Durkstra Hello Jos, thanks for watching my video. As soon as on "Ricochet" in 1975, TD was performing with Piano Sounds on stage. But the Piano was pre receorded in a studio, and thus was playing from tape during the live concerts. What "ThAU" wants to do, is to bring a grand piano live on stage for their upcoming tour (if possible, considering the logisitcs). Greetings, Ralph

    • @fluxusmusic1642
      @fluxusmusic1642 7 років тому

      To get a bit nerdy... Edgar Froese used the (portable!) Yamaha CP70 stage grand piano from '76 onwards, but he didn't integrate it into the music as ThAU do very nicely here.
      The CP70 is heard on many TD concert fan recordings of the 70s, but used as an introduction - or even a joke, as Edgar quotes some classical piece, or a national anthem.
      Edgar also used a booming Mellotron grand piano sound live, and notably on Sorcerer.
      TD did play live versions of the opening of Ricochet Pt2, but' like the LP, the sequencer takes over from the piano, as Edgar goes to his Tron or guitar :-)

    Fantastic vlog that piece that they played was amazing, does Thau have a soundcloud or youtube or somewhere online that i can listen to more of their work? Also can't wait for the system 100 video and extra thumbs up for saying my name with the french accent! :)

    nice music, not knocking it, but not Berlin School !? Call it for what it is, a room full of potential, boxes of exploration, endless years of investigation, toys and boys, but Berlin School? that was an era that is no longer here. This is 2015, the year of anything goes, let's create new music, or does Berlin School mean something from the past? if so, let the museums play it out.

      @RalphBaumgartl  9 років тому +2

      Miki Simans Thanks for watching the video and writing that comment. You raised a valid point there! As a matter of fact, I have already spoken to Bernie about this topic casually over a coffee. I would like to address it with Bernie and Frank (the musicians) in one of the forthcoming Vlogs. Greetings, Ralph
