+Sean Hornibrook Hello Sean, thanks for watching! I am very glad that you like it! Yes, you are right that Berlin School is still a thing! In my opinion the recent release of the "Moog Mother32" is confirmation that Berlin School of Electronic Music is still alive and kicking. Best regards, Ralph
+Ralph Baumgartl VLog I'd agree with this. If Berni or Frank feel like buying a Mother-32, I'm sure we'd all love to see how they might use it in their music.
+Two-Dog James Hello James, rest assured !!! As soon as Bernie has a Moog Mother 32, I will shoot a Video!!! I will probably even start with the unboxing of this beauty ;-) Best regards, Ralph
this was just mindblowing!!! I listen to Berlin School for some Years now and finally i have the gear to produce it and am trying to learn it. You guys are just the best!!!
Yes please, more tutorials! For those of us who love Berlin School synthesis, this is fascinating. Now I just have to buy more gear, in order to put this information into practice... Ralph, have you thought of running subtitles while Berni is talking, rather than going to the trouble of translating? On the other hand, your translations are part of the videos' appeal.
+Two-Dog James Hello James, thanks for watching and providing feedback. I have thought about english subtitles before and I have also discussed the idea with Bernie, but I want to keep the videos on my channel in a Vlog style in order to capture the spontaneity. When we start out shooting a Synth Vlog we have just the main topic in mind, but then we go as things unfold. (I might edit an outtakes episode by the end of the year in order to give you guys a glimpse into our filming process). We have just filmed a Moog Opus3 Video (the winner of the synthesizer challenge ua-cam.com/video/EE8LDU4FTKA/v-deo.html ) This video will go online in the next couple of days, and then you will see that also unexpected things were happening while filming. Nevertheless I have decided to edit these parts into the video to make the Vlog a bit more like "Real Life". Stay tuned....Best regards from Germany, Ralph
Thanks for feeling like back in school , the difference I am listening carefully :-))) Very interesting to get an inside view on the working flow of an great and authentic artist! Great sequences and tutorial! vielen Dank auch an Bernie! Und ja ich will mehr davon ;-)
+VolcaRock Hi Rob, thanks for watching ! I am really glad that even an accomplished electronic musician like you gets something out of this tutorial. Sending my best regards to Dresden...Cheers, Ralph
Excellent. Chris Franke would be proud of you. :-) I think what's a little missing on younger students of electronic music is the layering of sequencers, and counterpoint, as well as fugue-like evolving, especially among different steps/meter. Love how casual and happy you are in your presentations.
I would definitely like to see more tutorials like this. I'm not a musician, but I've always loved electronic/sequenced/Berlin School style music and I enjoy hearing about how this music is created. I would be interesting in knowing more about how he works with delays to get the proper timing, and what sort of thought process he uses when he constructs his sequences (that's probably a tough question to answer, he probable just does what sounds good to him!) Anyway, I enjoy watching these videos and maybe someday my long ago German knowledge will let me understand more of what Bernd says as he says it (I already at least pick up bits and pieces)
+James Howe Hello James, thank you for watching and writing a comment. Great topic: "How to get the proper timing with delays and tape echo machines." There are many ways how to approach this....this also includes the construction of sequences. Plenty of stuff for a Vlog! I am really glad that you enjoy watching our videos. Thanks for your suggestion! Greetings from Germany, Ralph
Hello Chartre Khan, thank you very much for watching and commenting. Great question! I will make sure we address it in one of the forthcoming videos. Greetings Ralph
Greetings from Toronto Canada! Love your videos and your enthusiasm. Would love to hang out in Bernie's synth cave of wonders! So very interesting to earn how he offsets the 5 and 6 note sequence with a 22 note one. I would have never thought of that! More vids about how to make Berlin School please!
+sunil solanki Hello Sunil, thank you very much for watching and commenting. That's our very intention: provide you guys with some new concepts and ideas which you may transfer to your own music making. Thanks for your favourable feedback and rest assured, more Vlogs about Berlin School Music Making will be forthcoming.....Greetings from Germany, Ralph
Hello Chris, thank you very much for watching! I will be uploading new modular synthesizer tutorials very soon! Many thanks for stopping by. Greetings Ralph
Chris Garner Hi Chris, I have also been interested in the BeatStep Pro. But now I am hoping Arturia is going to release a KeyStep PRO in the near future ;-) Cheers Ralph
Hi Chris, I mean a Pro version of the Keystep along the lines of what they did with the standard Beatstep which was later developed into a Pro version :-) Cheers Ralph
I really enjoyed this but I think these would work better if you just let Bernd-Michael do the whole presentation in German and then dubbed it in English. Needless to say, you should make both the German and English dub versions available as separate videos.
+rockets4kids Hello Rocket4Kid, Thanks for watching and commenting. When Bernie and me started with these Vlogs, we just had the topic in mind and were doing things on the fly without much preparation. Both of us are non native english speakers and Bernie doesn’t want to speak english on camera. I am aware of the fact that there is plenty of room for improvement ;-) We learn as we go…In the last Vlog we did together, we introduced a new approach. After every sub topic, we stop, recap what Bernie said, and then Bernie takes the camera and is shooting me me while I translate his stuff. ua-cam.com/video/EwngseMS3BY/v-deo.html Running a UA-cam channel with regular updates takes a lot of work and time. Transcribing, Translation and adding subtitles would increase production time. I rather do more Vlogs. It’s a compromise, I am trying to get the best of both worlds ;-) Moreover, I have put the word “Vlog” into my channel name for a reason, because it implies that things are sometimes done in a “Quick & Dirty” way (hand held camera etc.) Hope that clarifies a few thing about our approach. Thanks again for watching and giving me feedback. Cheers Ralph
Great video! Really enjoyed it. I'm trying to learn to make those Berlin school sequencer lines ( using Quasimidi Polymorph) so it was very informative. It would be great to see a video on how to create the actual sequence(s), the notes relationship in the sequence(s) ect. Delay timing as well maybe. Anyway thanks for the great vids!
+AnalogNoiseLab Hello AnalogNoiseLab, thank you very much for watching and taking the time to write feedback. It's highly appreciated. I am very glad to learn that you could get some helpful information from this video. And also many thanks for making topic suggestions regarding future Vlogs (how to create the actual sequence(s), the notes relationship in the sequence(s) ect. Delay timing) We put all these proposals on a list and try to address them in forthcoming Videos. Thanks again and best regards, Ralph
heheh seems to be a pretty good video, but I paused a sec to let you know that you, Ralph where counting 8/4 , not 7/4 time measure. You just silenced the 8th beat before counting again from the start - heheh ! x)
when at the modular all of a sudden 7 steps are refered to instead of 5steps/6 steps. I think it would be less confusing if the demo is consequently refering to the same step sizes.
+KWHCoaster Hello and thank you very much for watching! I am glad that you can take something away from this video. Don't be jealous for this Synthesizer cave, there is always the risk of getting lost in there, and never find your way back out ;-) Cheers Ralph
+Ralph Baumgartl VLog This has me wanting to try using both my Beatstep PROs on the same rig. An experiment for this weekend. Would you even want to find your way out of the cave? :-)
KWHCoaster Cool, let me know how it worked and what you have come up with. You may consider checking out this video as well. Digital vs Analog sequencer. ua-cam.com/video/DOSdQZL5Vyk/v-deo.html Bernies shares a super simple tip for moving analog sequencers to live gigs. Cheers Ralph
+Roy Summers Hello Roy, I am not quite sure how to interpret your question. Do you mean putting several sequencers in a row and let them play one after another? Kindly let me know? Greetings Ralph
+Ralph Baumgartl VLog Hi Ralph...the thought occurred to me the other day. Say you have many sequencers but you could trigger each one from a master sequencer. Perhaps one could build more of a song structure like intro, verse, chorus, middle bit verse chorus etc. Good videos. I have watched a couple and learnt a bit more. Thanks
+Roy Summers Hello Roy, the most “convenient” way to achieve this, is by using a Sequential Switch. Kindly check out this video here as a starting point ua-cam.com/video/pPXZ6ieVVFE/v-deo.html Best Regards, Ralph

Hello Hanna, many thanks for stopping by and watching our video. It’s highly appreciated! 1. Most of the videos on my channel are in English anyway. Just the video tutorials with Bernd-Michael Land are bilingual. Running a UA-cam channel with regular updates takes a lot of work and time. Transcribing, Translation and adding subtitles would increase production time. Especially adding subtitles is tedious and time-consuming work, I rather do more Vlogs. It’s a compromise, I am trying to get the best of both worlds ;-) 2. I have been planning an episode about the history and the main features of Berlin School Music for a long time. But until now I haven’t found the time to do it. As I said under item No. 1: Running a UA-cam channel with regular updates takes a lot of work and time. Especially as a small UA-camr who has to do everything by himself ;-) But in the meantime you may watch some of my interviews with pioneers of Berlin School Music: - Manuel Goettsching: ua-cam.com/video/7Gg3jMcQmuE/v-deo.html - Harald Grosskopf: ua-cam.com/video/yAlS0ZkGzcw/v-deo.html - Eberhard Panne (Sound Engineer): ua-cam.com/video/OA2vgmHI0tM/v-deo.html Thanks again for taking the time to check out my channel. Another very informative video Ralph! Thanks very much to you and Bernie for taking the time to share this extremely helpful information!
Hello Flareless, i am very glad that you enjoyed this video. Stay tuned, there's more to come...Thanks for watching! Cheers, Ralph
Love those little harmonic tones around 8:19
