    22:11 - 22:26 I'm so glad you brought that up as an example (I personally am not in a wheelchair but I have been for surgical reasons and easily could end up in one permanently because I have mild cerebral palsy) people need to understand that having a disability isn't fun its difficult whether its Physical or mental my mom has PTSD too and even tho she wants to take me out to do fun stuff and help me be more mobile and active I see how much she struggles with being in public (even tho she says she doesn't need a SD/doesn't have one) but the fact that people dress their pets in service vests and take them out in public with them just puts a bad light on people who actually need them for medical reasons so I fully agree with your decision to make sure people see the difference

      service dogs provide a service, like if you are blind, deaf, in a wheel chair etc. What service do these dogs provide for this girl? Does she have a physical disability? Doesn't look like it to me. So if her dog is an emotional support dog then she needs to say that and not call her dog a service dog. It is people with their fake service dog's, like this girls, that are making it very hard for people who really need dogs. She falls into the, I like to take my dog every where with me, category.

      @@May5359 whether you like it or not your brain is a physical thing, though I questions whether yours specifically is actually there, debilitating mental health affects your brain and makes it a physical disability whether or not you can see it and it is accepted by law in both western Australia, and it seems in many parts of America, that a malfunctioning brain is recognised as a 'physical thing' and viable for a service dog if it meets certain standards. Sorry you can't take your dog in public because you were told you don't meet the standards as that's the only reason I can imagine you being so salty for lmfao, but your shit isn't going to stop others from doing what they can and are allowed to do ^-^.

    When listening to you say things people wouldn’t or would do to bring their service animal with them and you said seizures. I randomly in January of 2018 had a grandmal seizure. I’ve had a few others or what they think are more seizures. Being a person going through them and knowing how they feel before and after its not fun. So why anyone would want to pretend about it I don’t get. For those who pretend to have seizures if they actually had one I think they would realize it’s not a fun thing to pretend to have just to get a service animal.

    • @lexiegodbout
      @lexiegodbout  4 роки тому +9

      Anime lover18 any disability isn’t fun. There’s a lot I don’t talk about on the channel, I give tiny glimpses every videos and am slowly coming to terms with my diagnoses and new everyday challenges. Because I’m a public person I choose to go through a lot of my struggles in private until I feel that I’m ready. I want to educate people. So this I must educate myself first. There’s still a lot I have to learn about myself.

    • @Animelover-xf7uy
      @Animelover-xf7uy 4 роки тому +4

      Lexie Godbout I fully agree no disability is fun. I just don’t understand those who chose to make fun of or pretend to have any disability just to have a service animal. I have full respect for you and your videos. I also understand not talking publicly about everything. I am a very shy and anxious person. I try to share certain parts of my life and some I keep bottled up. Not all that healthy to bottle it up but it’s how I cope. Your videos help me learn about the world of service animals. When I had my first seizure there was talk about getting a service animal and still some talk but not to sure if I will or not. I still have tests to take to figure out my seizures as well as anything else I have such as anxiety and ptsd from a bad relationship. Why I’m saying all this I don’t know guess I feel open to share right now. Thank you for a reply to my comment it really made my day. Your an amazing UA-camr I love your videos. Keep your head up don’t let anyone tell you that your not worth it because you are worth more then you could ever imagine. Hope you have an amazing day.

      Be patient, all dogs work at their own pace, be consistent, don’t start too early, try if you can to get guidance from a professional I know that it’s not possible for some people they may not have access to a trainer or may not be able to afford it. I trained mine and that’s the one thing I wish I could’ve done but my SD is still great regardless

    • @servicedogonabudget180
      @servicedogonabudget180 4 роки тому +1

      Well technically you can asks questions since no one can take away your your 1st amendment freedom of speech
      And also if you see someone faking a service dog then in some states its considered a crime but also in some states its not so it just depends its a different story if that fake service dog does something like distracting a real service dog or disruption of property.

    I hadn't connected the words "snowball effect" to service dog abuse and it makes so much sense. In my situation, I see that snowball effect happening with "inspirational people" with disabilities, like "inspiration porn". (Feeling inspired because if a disabled person can do it surely you can too.) Yes, my son has prosthetic legs, but that doesn't make him inspirational and saying that he's an inspiration could have a snowball effect to thinking that all disabled people are an inspiration simply for existing.

    Have you see this on Netflix it’s about a dog called Dude and he’s a emotional support dog that’s helps a boy with Social anxiety. And picks him up and takes it to school and it’s misbehaves and all sorts if you have it on Netflix. Where I liked the series but it completely is sending the wrong message about what a ESA is and an service dog. And maybe do a video of it ? As someone with PTSD public places bother me a lot. I’ve thought about service dogs quite a lot recently but I’m only 13, live in an apartment, and don’t have the money. I believe I manage ok without one, the only problem I have is I can’t tell the difference between a panic attack and an Asmara attack.

    so i have an issue.. i have ptsd so i'm getting a golden retriever puppy to train as my assistance dog (service dog outside the uk) soon and i'm so scared that it's gonna get called a fake. it's going to be trained to alert to panic attacks, do dpt, fetch medication, and interrupt self-harm behaviours such as scratching and other stuff. does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this type of confrontation?

    I understand how you feel, I'll be getting a dog to be my SD but I'll be owner training them. I see dogs go into public places where they aren't supposed to go inside. My grandma says I " overreact" and I'm like " Whenever will bring my service dog in I don't know if their dog is going to run at my dog, so I do have the right to react in that way. " Especially here in FL they bring does EVERYWHERE it scares me when I will bring my dog out last year I was training my husky mix who had to be into a new home when I had him I was SO scared that some random fake service would come running at us and most of the time I had him stay home because of my fears and stupidy of other people, I have THREE kinds of seizures and other syndromes so I need my dog to be with me 24/7 I don't know what I'm going to do when I get my new pup. I have this fear that one day someone's dog will come at us. I'm not going to keep rambling on I'm sure for those who have seizures understand...

    Is it just me that has noticed that all of the fakes only have a service dog vest on and nothing else like no patches or anything and then the service dogs that are in this channel all have multiple patches and lots of signs as well as the vest - not saying that all legit SD owners have patches and all that don't are fakes but it seems like a little bit of a pattern to me.

    In my opinion if the dog slips up a little bit like isn’t walking right at the hip or maybe they break a stay you know just minor slip ups I don’t think it matters I’ll give the dog the benefit of a doubt maybe it’s just having an off day. But if your “service dog” is barking, lunging, you need a choke collar to control it and stop it from pulling you around...... it’s fake, sorry I’m not giving it the benefit of the doubt then.
    Either way I wish people wouldn’t be so uptight. Service dog handlers are GOING to protect their dogs because they are expensive and take forever to train. They are GOING to record when there are other dogs around for legal purposes. If that dog attacks their dog they’ll have it on camera. Not only that they have a dog for a reason sometime if it’s ptsd they can’t control their actions when they get in a high stress situation they are more then likely going to come off as rude
    I was in Walmart and there was a dog with a vest on and it almost ate a wrapper of the floor, it was sniffing random people, pulling on the leash like the owner had to yank him back cause it was pulling so hard. I said “I hate when people fake service dogs” and my mom just told me to ignore it...... I went on an entire rant telling her that ignoring it is what makes it a problem in the first place. You know I probably wouldn’t even care that it was a fake service dog if it was in control and being calm and respectful. But when it’s doing so many things and and it’s obvious the owner has no control it does become a problem

    After my SD was mauled. I mean blood running down his neck, face, ears, chest, ect. He is a little anxious when he sees a pet barking and lunging at him in a store. He remains obedient but will want to look at the other dog..so obviously concerned.. just glad I didnt have to wash him. ): we get rushed regularly not just in stores but basically I carry bear spray now. It is extremely effective at getting off leash dogs rushing up to you to stop. I'm glad the last attack didn't kill my dog. I will never let it happen again.

      @@leafy7717 thank you, we are good now. I just feel the need to tell people how dangerous pets in stores can be. Untrained animals in a stressful situation are more likely to bite, bark, ect. Sadly it seems like every handler has a fake service dog story. ):
