I totally agree with you! Of course we can use rubato, but at Royal College of Music the professors taught us to practice rubato with the metronome so that we didn't wander too far! Sounds crazy and in a way it is, but it actually works. I still use a metronome after decades of performing concerts, so it's definitely important. Thank you for your work.
?!? - Rubato with the metronome ... Now you come to mention it, I think I've tried that a few times on a couple of sections and I thought I was being ridiculous. I'm glad it's 'official'. Thank you!
Good Morning Sharon, and thank you for another Vlog; which I refer to as my Sunday Sermon. I think the metronome is one of the best non-biological tutors out there. I am forever using mine, (A little Taktell Piccolo). Have a wonderful Sunday, and week ahead.
Good info here. Another use for the analog metronome too. They are very meditative just to listen to. They have more agency in their tick than any clock I have ever heard. Better if it is quiet, but help focus even if it's noisy.
Thanks Sharon. Good to hear your perspective. I’ve started learning percussion, so if anyone should sound mathematical it should be the one banging the drum and keeping time. 😄 I’m wondering if I should buy a mechanical metronome or electronic. I won’t use an app on my phone as I’m using my phone to listen to tutorials. I think I’ll spend the money on a mechanical metronome, and if I need something more complex in the future I’ll know what I’m after.
The mechanical ones are expensive - but I do think they are a thing of beauty. My son is a percussionist/drummer, and he always talks about playing on 'the centre of the beat'. He used to walk around with a click track playing in his ears rather than listen to music! Enjoy 😊
Thanks the the post. I have 2 questions 1) Is the wittner maelzel series metronomes too loud compared to taktell piccolo series ? 2) Taktell metronome can be kept on the music stand and the hence movement of the metronome hand can guide us (unlike Maelzel series). Do you think this is a disadvantage ? I would love to know your opinion.
I'm not sure it's a case of better or worse - it's just whatever your preference is. For myself, I don't like a metronome to be too loud and intrusive - and I ALWAYS have to stop the 'ping' at the start of a bar. However, some do like a really loud metronome - to keep them on task. It's just a matter of preference. I've never considered the movement as something to consider - I'm always too intent on looking at the music to spare a glance for the metronome!
Yes, it is. As a minim is worth 2 beats, and a crotchet is worth one beat; there are twice as many crotchet beats for each minim beat, thus 60x2 =120. Hope that helps.

They are your best friend and (at times) your worst enemy! Wouldn't be without one. Thank you!! 😊

I agree!! I do love a loud ticking clock 😊
Super cool, very interesting, thanks
Thank you😊

I don't use one much but I think I need to start, in order to get better timing- Thanks for your hard work
I heartily recommend it. Best wishes for your playing.
So sweet thankyou...
Most welcome 😊

mam you work so hard for us tnku so much ❤️ plz upload Tcl grade 2 next video and why some of them are private?😔
They become available every day. It must be that they are scheduled but not live yet. Each week day a new video will progress through each exercise. 😊
Any idea how to get a wind-up metronome repaired? Grateful for any suggestions!
I took mine to a jewellers (when the children got at it!!) - however, it never was the same again. You could try a jewellers/watch repairers??
Sharon Bill thank you!
@@miwir1248 Hope you get it sorted!
What piano is that,
Looks significantly shorter/ different than mine
It's a Kawai CS11 - it's a full sized piano keyboard. It must be the angle of the camera?!?
Mam is 60 minim bpm is euql to 120 crotchet bpm ?
