Adrian is, in my humble opinion, the best guitar tutor online that I have come across. Having had personal lessons, it amazes me how he can instantly come down to your skill level and guide you further. Great channel Adrian, we guitar folks are lucky to have you.
Not sexy but so important. Playing basic music in time is far more enjoyable for the listener than advanced stuff all over the place. Brilliant Adrian, makes me wish I still lived in North London!
This is the best tutorial I have seen in regard to metronomes. I never really knew how much this can benefit a player; no matter how long you played already.
Great video! After 3 years of practicing guitar, finally picking up and diligently using a metronome change my guitar playing life immensely for the better.
This is Avery useful video. I have been putting off using a metronome for a couple years. Recently I started using one. This video helps me understand how to use one and how it will improve my ability. Thanks
I'm not a guitarist... but I'm learning ukulele. I want to be even on chord changes and picking so I have been deciding on a metronome. I like the sound of mechanical but love abilities of the digital. You have pointed out the pros and cons. Thank you.
7:24 "So I sense that already you're pretty excited by this whole metronome business." There's that dry wit we've grown to love. But yeah, I am pretty excited.
This is great stuff- both lessons. Very important and much neglected by many...Thanks for all your great lessons. I especially appreciate that you provide some insight into theory and other technical aspects of playing.
I like the old school mechanical one. With this, you can see the beat. Kinda like looking at a drummer. The bleepy electronic sound is equivalent to scrapping my front teeth on a chalkboard. Great lesson, thanks!
I'm a seventy-year-old guitar newbie and bought a metronome just two days ago. Last night I tried changing chords on the beat. Not at all easy but it does force the septuagenarian arthritic fingers to try to behave a bit better. I've heard of being "in the groove," but has anyone ever said to you, "Rad, dude, you're on the click, man!" Maybe a new idiom is born. I'm wondering if you travel in a clique? Thanks for a great lesson!
My arthritis decided to act up on me and doing anything on the guitar is beyond painful when it does. I want a real one and I am leaning towards the old mechanical one used by pianists.
@@generalawareness101 I feel your pain. After I wrote my comment two years ago, I switched to the KETO diet. What a difference in my health! No more arthritis, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure. Amazing difference.
Learn to love the metronome...This is pure genius! And of course it makes sense. Or should we call it "Dr Woodward or how I learned to stop worrying and love the metronome..."
Really respect the video. I loved in the Pentatonic lick how he didn’t use a traditional fingering position. Typically that minor 3rd stretch on the bottom of the scale would use fingers one and four, and instead he used one and three. I’ve beaten myself up for under-utilizing my pinky and sticking to “traditional fingering,” and this gives me a little bit of solace when it comes to my ‘poor technique’ lmao.
Hi Adrian, never thought of doing a lesson about Wilco's Impossibile Germany? It would be great to learn such a beautiful song from a brilliant teacher like you! Cheers from Italy
When I first started playing guitar, my sense of timing was virtually non-existent. I found it incredibly difficult to play in time because I just felt like I was fumbling looking for the notes/chords to play. I greatly improved after my friend taught me some basic beats on the drum kit. Playing drums to a click track is super helpful too and I feel will carry over ot guitar.
Alternatively if you don't want to spend money on a metronome and you already have a drum machine. Most drum machines can be paired down to a single beat of a sound of your choosing, whether it be a snare sound or tom sound or any number of sounds the drum machine has. Just a thought.

Aww, you're too kind - thanks!
Absolutely.
I agree 🎉

I like how as he's explaining what you can do with the metronome as it's clicking along his explanation falls in time with the metronome.

Best guitar channel on YT. Makes you work not only on your guitar, but improves your musicianship as well.
This is the only video that made "How to use a metronome" really sink in for me
Thank you Adrian
Great break down on the metronome. “Feeling” the beat makes so much more sense now

"I have accumulated an unnecessary amount of these things"
This could describe a lot of piles of 'things' in my house.
He puts me in a good mood, normally I am easily irritated and loose focus !!

Awesome lesson with detailed approach to y we need to use metronome, n how to build up sense of tempo while playing on beats.
agree with you, mastering the metronome in playing instrument is so important ! 👍

Your intro made me laugh out loud! After a moment I wanted to scream at the screen to make it stop, lol.
Wow this was super helpful. Thank you sir !
Looking forward to part 2

Well whadda know, I thought I was one of the no rhythm people, but it was just hiding in there and these metronome exercises brought him out. :o)

Great Video thanks for sharing
excellent video

I never ever found it annoying, finally, i can follow it some what, 1 more month ill be proficient
AWESOME intro!
Very good! Even for a violinist
The lick at 16th notes sounds like cold play adventure of a lifetime lol
Am working on my timing and came across this one of yours from 2018...excellent Adrian. Thanks so much.
Very nice.
Nice. I t was all confusing for me until I saw this video.
"I'll learn to love the metronome, I will play just on the beat.. drink scotch whisky, all night long.. and die behind the wheel..."
Cheers buddy.
Pavement, yeah!
I'm convinced.
Thank you. As starting for the first time for a non player, why start with a 1/4 note? pls. and thanks.
Fantastic lesson! Since you said you were a fan of Pavement (me either) could you do, please, a lesson on any of their songs?
Yes, thinking about a Pavement lesson so it will probable happen in the not too distant future.
@@acpg Not absolutely sure about this, but a pretty teachable song in standard tuning could be Range life I think.
Sounded like a modern version of ‘Time’ at the beginning. Pink Floyd tutorial?

Yes, that will work well. Used to do that myself with an old Alesis drum machine and run it through my studio speakers.
Excuse me, What model is your guitar? I really like that sound
Don't know if you ever found out but its a Fender Telecaster in Butterscotch
Haha )) nice but one question left where’d you get this russian girl counting app (metronome) ?
it was just a preset on a metronome app - didn't realise it was Russian, thought it sounded cool though!
BPM - Basic Pulse, Mate
Can we get some pavement tutorials at some point!!
Probably - thinking seriously about it.
You're clever.
...................you are.
I've put this off... its time to be in time ....that joke was ... bad timing.......errrrrr
