- The woobly wibbly wavety tutorial you've all been waiting for is finally here! In this quick (and SIIICK!) tutorial, we go over a very simple process for creating, AND ANIMATING! (whAAT!) some really cool abstract shapes in Blender.
This tutorial is pretty beginner friendly so jump on in and come up with some wild stuff!
If you like this tutorial you'll probably also like this one where we make custom 3D type in a matter of minutes!

Whoever left the downvote. Please admit you copied all the numbers exactly and then felt like a fool.
the downvote is for a rather foolish humor, sorry but the tutorial is good
Well thank you for your honesty, I hope your fingers didn't get any more sore writing that comment than they did typing in all those numbers. jk lol (another foolish humor)

I've never laughed so much at a Blender tutorial.
Gunnar Young so happy to hear that! More tutorials (and jokes) to come!
Derek Elliott, you've earned yourself a new subscriber!
Gunnar Young fantastic! Welcome aboard!
haha, very informative x)💕and the jokes relieved the pressure that I usually put on myself whenever I try something new! Thanks for sharing! It is very appreciated!😊🌻
Excellent tutorial. Your channel makes Blender so much accessible and fun to work with.
Nitin Das that means so much. Thank you!
your voice is too beautiful. and that little laugh at a certain point :D I forgot why I was watching this tutorial for.
Focus, Tuana
Hello again Bob Ross of Blender ) Love your tutorials, it's near 4 am and I've decided to do a daily render with you. thanks m8!
Hello again! So glad you've decided to do some rendering!
The Bob Ross of Blender. With those happy bloppity bloopitys.
Great tutorial! I really like your style. Thanks for sharing and keep it up ;)
BlendMaster thank you, master! I've been enjoying yours as well!
Thank you!
Your humour really matches mine I'm crying thank you for this
I just found you and this tutorial as I'm trying to get my demo reel done this year...I hate the fact that I like your goofy-ass vibe so much.
Great tutorial, btw. Subbed.
This was definitely a goofy one. Glad you're enjoying 🤗
I'm a big fan of blobs! Thanks!
Thanks for blobbing with me!
nice work Derek, good laugh out loud moment
Thanks Ken
it´s in like fresh talk. HAHAHHAHAHHA. Looks like *joyfully* you´re discovering parameters along the way. Awesome presentation. Cool!
Activemotionpictures thank you!
wavity blopity wopity 😀. Good tutorial.
You're giving me Rick & Morty vibes and I love it. This was great, been wanting to learn how to do this for awhile now. Just subscribed!
Awesome, Paul! Welcome to the party and let me know if there's anything else you want to learn!

Yirsi of course! Glad you enjoyed it
THANK YOU DEREK!
I subbed for the humour!
Super dope! Thanks, need to make me a bloopity bloopity woobl wibbly shape. Liked and subscribed, just got blender!
You have a very cinema4d style, and I love it as a new user coming from c4d. Very motion graphics style.
lts8709 thank you! Most of the type of work I do is dominated by c4d community. Great software but I'm really trying to show that a lot of the same stuff can be done in blender. Welcome aboard! Let me know if there are other things that you think would be attractive to the c4d community!
As a complete noob to blender i'll have to come back to this.. but looks cool
Came back and succeeded. Thanks for the tut! I like the fact you add your own woobly wobbly personality in there. Makes for a more interesting video.
Thanks Derek! I was able to make a shiny blob very quickly. Subscribed :)
Yahoooooo!
You're pretty funny man made the learning process smooth
Thanks dawg glad you liked it
That was a fun little tut! Thanks.
If I watch it again, will the numbers be the same? Because I don't think I got them all the first time.
stivosaurus no, unfortunately the numbers are ever-changing and will never be the same.
How do you get a looping animation? It shows a slight jump at the end/beginning.
Stucci like Gucci
Great tutorial! Thank you
Glad you liked it!
clean
For some reason I can still see the mesh points embedded in/under the surface. I've tried Shade Smooth, Auto Smooth and Smooth Vertices which so far haven't worked. Any suggestions please? Thanks
Thank you sir.
Wavity waves for my bloopity blopity. *Dying*
please refrain from dying until the tutorial has finished
Hi Derek, thank you so much for sharing. I just started learning octane and this animation, specifically the effect was not rendered. Do you happen to know what can I do or what happened?
When ever I insert the key frame the animations does happen… it stays on one spot and once it hits the 120th frame it teleport’s?
''ASMR'' voice
So I've heard...
Came for the good tutorial, stayed for the bad jokes. Subscribed!
Could you animate the bloopity blopity to sound?
Ben M oh yah baby. Search "bake sounds to f curves" on Google. I'll try to make a tutorial eventually.
i feel like anthony jeselnik just taught me a blender tutorial
I'll have to up my humor game
Is there fast way (or any way) of converting each wobble or warp to a keyframe ?
Hardus Jonker if you set your start and end keyframes (yellow) then you could go in to whatever property is animated on any given frame (green) and set it as a keyframe. Beyond that maybe look in to baked actions? What are you trying to do?
Thanks, I'll check that.
I want to take it to EEVEE to see how the render speeds would compare. But so far the modifier properties are not going over to 2.8 since it's still in progress.
when i click Stucci it doesnt make it wavy like yours, just makes it a little bumpy. i checked and all my numbers match yours. any idea why?
Might need more subdivisions? Scale of your object could effect it too
For the first keyframe is it set to 0 or 1???
Please say "Happy little woobley wobblies" next time
Derek can you do a tutorial on basic animations for characters? Such as throw, walk, run, jump , etc? 🤗
Lincoln Raju Johnson aww man Lincoln, I wish! Unfortunately this is an area I'm very unfamiliar with. Maybe eventually, but probably not soon!
That's fine but then can you do one on a ship like the titanic?
Ah Man, freaking Noobs to those who have copied the numbers xD awesome. first time ever i have laughed in a tutorial xD
I followed you til the Material part, not sure how you have that set up. Is there anywhere you show that set up? #StayTrendy :)
at 2:00 i cant figure out how to get the camera view on the left to be in the same tab as blender
Hmm not sure I understand
And now do it with Cycles new Vector Displacement :D
thanks - you have just illustrated how bad the blender UI is - but its a great tutorial.
But now you do 😂
its actually reallychill to watch
This one in particular
U sound so natural
thank you A H !!!

welcome to the fammmm
how you did this plane on the bottom with that light?
BilBagi check my seamless backdrop tutorial where I go over a few ways to do this. It's basically just a curved pink plane and a single lamp
You are a Wako!
Howd you do that paper texture for the floor?
Check out my simple procedural material Tut. Has a white ball icon
Is this good to put in games??? Or is it good for just animating???
You can definitely export the mesh for a game but I'm not as sure about how to move the animation over
@@DerekElliott K, thx man. Ima give it a try
How do you pronounce stucco?
stucco
whats the shortcut used at 7:20 "switch type to" ?
hassan chergui shift-s with the one you're replacing selected. I think you must have the node wrangler add-on enabled for it to work
Derek Elliott thanks for the quick reply :)
how long would this take to render?
Kurt Doerfel there are MANY factors at play there but for this scene at 1080p, about 10 seconds long would probably be a couple hours. Hardware, sample settings, resolution, animation duration all effect this greatly. You could probably render it nearly identical in EEVEE in about 10 seconds!
If you cant find the texture just press s
"Freaking N00Bs...you never have to copy anything exactly"
3:07 it is Stucci = Stoochy u like oo in zoo ccilike chy itchy with Italian accent on oo
i think it’s pronounced stew-chi?
