I have come across several watercolor beginners who has been struggling with watercolor, I found one common pattern in all of them and that was “FEAR”. People want to learn watercolour but they always begin with fear and that fear reflects in his/her work. It never allows them to enjoy this medium, this video of watercolor tips would help many watercolor beginners to overcome there fear, and start having fun with them. I look forward to have your any comment and suggestion.

Hi Nitin, really enjoyed watching this. I totally agree with you: the first step to a successful painting is the elimination of fear. When we are afraid of ruining something, that fear runs from our brain to our arm and straight into the painting. I have noticed that my best work is the work that I am not emotionally invested in; I have no expectations from it, its just meant to be a quick exercise, just playing with paints, and I'm totally relaxed because I'm not out to create a masterpiece. And before I know it, its turned out to be fairly good!
Please can you do a video on your out-n-about watercolour kit? What do you take with you when you go out to sketch/paint? This is the area I struggle most with: keeping a sketchbook and regularly painting in it. I never paint when out and about, because I only go out for a purpose, eg grocery shopping, picking the kids up from school, etc. I never got into the habit of going out just to paint. What do you carry with you? Your own chair? A water container? I'd love to see a video on how you manage it. Many thanks.

I am happy with my first layers now. All thanks to you. I was getting a bit worried about my second layer and this vedio is exactly what i needed. Not many people remember the fears and uncertainity of a beginner , after they have mastered an art. It takes a real good teacher to have the patience to address those issues and you have succeeded in doing that. Thank you very much.

I think if he had done it, he wouldn't have been able to communicate the freedom. He would just be stuck on trivial details. Just use the colours that make you happy. Don't think much. I think that was the essence.
But, for the detailers maybe, afterwards, in the description he can put.

Every day is the key I think. I wish I could. On holiday somewhere it is easy and fun. I always bring my little painting book and do a little every day. A friend set himself a task of doing one sketch/watercolour wash every day for a month or so. Didn't matter how brief or what the subject so long as he filled in another page.I have started keeping my travel paint box and a water bottle handy when I am watching tv.

That is something I need to work on. Just sketch and paint. A friend set himself a challenge of one per day for a month or so. Not big things, so long as another page in his little sketch pad was filled.

I love this video. I have for a while being attending a watercolour class (very good tutor) but I often feel inhibited in the class, not because I am afraid to make mistakes but because I am scared of being judged (not by the tutor but other attendees) if the end result isn't good enough. I really don't mind making mistakes and experimenting as I don't expect to produce a masterpiece. I am looking forward to looking at your other videos. it would be nice (if you haven't already done so) to be able to see you mixing the paints etc in your palette too. You're an inspiring and intelligent teacher.

    Hi Nitin,
thanks a lot for this tutorial. I'm starting with watercolors and watercolor pencils (Faber Castell Albrecht Duerer) and will try your tips. And I'll get one of the brushes you recommend.
For me as a bloody beginner you're really helping a lot

Thank you for the inspiring words and enlightening that we don't have to copy exactly. I always have that inclination to copy every detail and my works turn out to be boring bec of it. I'll subscribe too on Skillshare.

I think this may be my favorite video of yours! (though I am still working my way through them.) Can you confirm that the products you have listed: brush, paints, PAPER - especially paper! Are the same exact products you used to create this work? Si many pple talk about using 100% cotton watercolor paper and this Canson XL paper does not appear to be that. And yet your results are spectacular! You are awesome!
