I have come across several watercolor beginners who has been struggling with watercolor, I found one common pattern in all of them and that was “FEAR”. People want to learn watercolour but they always begin with fear and that fear reflects in his/her work. It never allows them to enjoy this medium, this video of watercolor tips would help many watercolor beginners to overcome there fear, and start having fun with them. I look forward to have your any comment and suggestion.

Cheers & happy watercoloring!
Nitin
Please do continue making videos like this one. The freedom you exhibit, the willingness to throw bold colors on the paper, and the calming discussion of your thought processes are all inspiring, and I hope to see many more.
You are truly inspirational person for those want to learn watercolour painting.
threw out fear today pick my paint brushes after seven teen years after a nasty comments we re made to me.so thankyou so much for helping me
Thank you Costello, way to success!
Stay away from negative people.
sylviacos costello keep creating ! Way to go
wow same here
Well done. I hope you are still painting. I only started about the same time as you but with a 2-hour class. We all do our own thing and get advice. I know how easy it is to be deflated by negative (or unkind/unthinking) people. I can look back at early stuff critique my own! Happy painting.
Beautiful! I love watching you. You do beautiful work. Thank you for teaching.
And, six year later, here I am watching and enjoyng very much this amazing video. I am a watercolorist begginer and these tips finally are broking my resistance to make more free and loose drawings and paintings. And, finally, after this video I bougt some pair of larger brushes and I hope to, very soon, been testing and experimenting them! Thank you!
Recently I moved to another country. And now I know how to fill my sketchbook about it. Thanks for the tips and inspiration. You are a magical artist!
Hi Nitin, really enjoyed watching this. I totally agree with you: the first step to a successful painting is the elimination of fear. When we are afraid of ruining something, that fear runs from our brain to our arm and straight into the painting. I have noticed that my best work is the work that I am not emotionally invested in; I have no expectations from it, its just meant to be a quick exercise, just playing with paints, and I'm totally relaxed because I'm not out to create a masterpiece. And before I know it, its turned out to be fairly good!
Please can you do a video on your out-n-about watercolour kit? What do you take with you when you go out to sketch/paint? This is the area I struggle most with: keeping a sketchbook and regularly painting in it. I never paint when out and about, because I only go out for a purpose, eg grocery shopping, picking the kids up from school, etc. I never got into the habit of going out just to paint. What do you carry with you? Your own chair? A water container? I'd love to see a video on how you manage it. Many thanks.
I love how you approach mental approach rather than techniques. I absolutely agree with you! The mental aspect of me not letting go of control is what keeps me from upgrading my paintings.
I am happy with my first layers now. All thanks to you. I was getting a bit worried about my second layer and this vedio is exactly what i needed. Not many people remember the fears and uncertainity of a beginner , after they have mastered an art. It takes a real good teacher to have the patience to address those issues and you have succeeded in doing that. Thank you very much.
The moment with throwing a little brush has made my day :D I love your art and your tutorials, thank you!
Very inspiring, Nitin! I really want to paint more loosely and in your relaxed manner. I like seeing the difference in how you painted the focal point, the background, and the far away things which gives the feeling of depth. I need to watch more of your videos! Thank you!
I am new to watercolors, new to art! Your classes are sooo amazing, I am learning a lot. I’ve searched many, many other sites, your classes are definitely the best. Anyone searching for the VERY BEST BEGINNERS WATERCOLOR CLASS should most certainly start with Nitin Singh. Love your tutorials, it’s nice being able to watch you first & then go back & do the painting myself. Thank you very much for being an amazing & gifted teacher!
so daring! 😱 you paint freely with such fierceness but what comes out is so soft and gentle. I hope that I'll learn to be able to do that too! thanks for the patience to teach and your wise words!
Thank you.
Just paint seems to be the ethos here. I like it. Frequency of painting I think is important. Getting the daily habit. I wish I could!
Well put yannie. There's a word in sanskrit called "saatvik". That's what this is.
Wish you did that on every vídeo!
excellent work watching your process the lights/darks making the focal Point, freeing yourself up and not scared to make mistakes really made sense. Thanks again look forward to seeing more of your work.
Thanks Richard.
So kind and encouraging! You are a perfect watercolor instructor because you understand so well what people new to the medium go through.
the best part of learning from u is the posetivity u induce in the pupils which help them get over the depressing first painting experience of this composition. the paintings r undoubtedly amazing
Another fantastic piece. So much life and movement.
Thank you
This really did help me to feel more relaxed! I now need a magic brush like yours to replace my huge stock. Thank you.
I'm so glad I came across this tutorial first. Your passion and freedom of expression is refreshing. Your water colours are really special! I'm looking forward to exploring your channel more!
Thanks Gareth.
Fearless! Love ur style & confidence. Thank u for ur teachings.
You are my kind of painter! I also believe in the meditative qualities of Painting with watercolors! These are great videos!!!!

You have so much talent. Thank you for teaching on UA-cam.
My Pleasure Arno.
I've painted with oil and acrylic but I've found watercolor to be intimidating.I'll try again after watching your video. Thank you so much! This is really helpful.
My best wishes!
Inspiring and encouraging. I found your comments about lack of detail in background and depth of colour in the focus of the painting was very helpful. Thank you very much.
this is a wonderful tutorial Nitin I'm always to tight to rigid with my paintings over use brush strokes and often end up with a muddy mess in my painting .I'm going to throw the small brushes aside and follow this tutorial with my biggest brush .thank you so much Nitin
Great, have fun :)
so happy I found your channel. I love you'r style! thank you for sharing your experience with me.
Your suggestion of drawing in sketchbook is inspiring. I like the way you use Chinese brush which replaces many brushes. Clear instruction to pain without fear is a great push. Many thanks. Hope to see more from you.
Thank you! I really needed this today as I have hit a slump. I have taken it too seriously and always have to remind myself that I am doing this for fun....not always creating a masterpiece. THANKS AGAIN.
Rembrandt feared Watercolor, also, your fans shouldn't be afraid of failure or mistakes, as you say... Just practice, Art isn't perfect, never is and never will.
You are the most simple yet most skillful watercolor painter out there, your more complex paintings are pure genius
And still this isn't your masterpiece? Well this is a masterpiece for me! Amazing work!
A joy to watch....thank you so much. The freedom is so liberating.
Thank you so much for this! This is what I work with. Thanks for explaining it so good! Beautiful painting as well!
Thank you Ove.
lOve Rotstedt xx
Thank you! What kind of brush and paper do you use ? Where can I get them in the States? Love your style!
Very nice tutorial. I need to spoil some of my paintings to be able to paint fearless. :) Extremely helpful. Thanks for creating this and sharing with us frequently.
You're welcome Jyotsna.
I thought that was an excellent point for him to make too! Someone once said "Those who don't make mistakes, don't make anything" or words to that effect.
Love your work... Mr. Nitin, is it possible to provide a footage of your palate too in any video? I mean.. I understood on paper properly, but how much color you are mixing, how much water....maybe you can discuss on that somewhere. If you have already done that, help me with the link please. Thanks a lot. your effort helps a lot. :-)
I was thinking the same thing, great videos though, and the skillshare is excellent.
He usually shares his pallette. He's done that in many videos.
Always the great knowledge lies how we explained basic things in right way to build confidence on beginners ,You are the one mastering the people. Thanks for the lesson
Thank you verrrry much, im exactly at this point where i trap myself in disappointment of my own paintings, and here your kind advices! Thanks again!
Thank you Diana, start enjoying you work and would see the difference.
Another beautiful painting to inspire me further! You are so right about having fear but your words in this video are helping me to overcome that. I have moved to larger brushes and am slowly mastering the non-detailed approach. I love your work, thank you!!
Nice to hear that, look forward to see your work too.
I think if he had done it, he wouldn't have been able to communicate the freedom. He would just be stuck on trivial details. Just use the colours that make you happy. Don't think much. I think that was the essence.
But, for the detailers maybe, afterwards, in the description he can put.
Thanks for this! I just signed up to be your patron. You have shown me something to do with my loose sketching style.
Great mantra, not my masterpiece, but my normal practice. Wonderful advice, thank you.
Yes... way to go
Hello sir can u please just tell us what is the paper name u using thank u
Wish you would list the colors as you put them on paper. enjoyed the demo.
Sure, thanks.
Every day is the key I think. I wish I could. On holiday somewhere it is easy and fun. I always bring my little painting book and do a little every day. A friend set himself a task of doing one sketch/watercolour wash every day for a month or so. Didn't matter how brief or what the subject so long as he filled in another page.I have started keeping my travel paint box and a water bottle handy when I am watching tv.
"you have to spoil certain amount paper and color"........." wow " just builds my confidence and makes me interesting to play with colors.
thank you so much
Love your calming, encouraging tone. Delightful piece. Thank you for this, I will take it with me on my new watercolor adventure!
Nitin. Thank you very much for your help. I am a watercolour beginner and it is very usefull for me to hear you.
Thank you so much!
That's so so inspirational. Thank you for all the teaching. I'm just starting out on the path of water colour and I've learnt loads today. Please could you show how to mix the colour and how much water you'd use for the different parts of the picture. Many thanks.
Very encouraging and supportive tuition. Excellent!!! Great watercolour technique, too. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent. It is not just the painting process but all the tips and encouragement you provide as well. I am afraid of the second layer and thought it was just me. I will remember to paint with fun and not fear. I will try and just be me using luscious colour and brushes on beautiful papers. Thank you.
Te felicito, eres magnífico, la.mano suelta, y tu sentido del color y texturas, genial!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! It is so generous of you! This is one of the best tutorials I have seen on you tube. I learned so much from this. Thank you!!!!
Thank you and God bless you Mr. Nitin. It was very very educational!
Paintings r terrific & express great character of heart and head, easy to be enjoyed.
❤🎉😊 great 👍 technics and skill in handling water color
Inspiring thank you very much
I'm so happy to have found your video. I love watercolors, but I'm not that confident, yet. Thank you for your videos and for your work
Thank you so much, my best wishes to you!
He has a very nice manner. So relaxing. I tend to stress a little over my acrylics and watercolours. I think that's because I don't have the habit of painting. That is something I need to work on. Just sketch and paint. A friend set himself a challenge of one per day for a month or so. Not big things, so long as another page in his little sketch pad was filled.
Other watercolor videos: it’s important to take care of your watercolor brushes nitin : see this small brush? Throw it! Like that !
Forgot how much I enjoy your work!
Love your free style and values!
Thank you for reminding me that patience is as important as paint... hahaha much better now :)
Would you please do a video of the ink and watercolor sketches you show at the first of this video? Very lovely. Nameste.
Very well explained ! I liked it vert much...Painting is amazing as well ! Tutorial is inspiring and encouraging. Master, I request you to keep posting your video tutorials without any break with simple and new techniques. All the Best !!!
Sure, thank you.
I love your painting style. Its so colorful, peaceful and just stunning
I feel so excited looking at your videos, you are inspiring and i also believe art and watercolors can be a great medium to express, free, and catartic too. You are great keep it up!!
Hi Nitin your words closely match the emotions. In second layer I get scared and overwork and it results in a very flat painting. I am working and one day I will overcome this fear and get a better painting. Overthinking on what should be shadow color and detailing really kills
Nitin, sos una inspiración. Gracias a tus videos mejoré muchisimo, cada vez amo más las acuarelas. Saludos desde Argentina!
Good afternoon, Nitin!
I do love your style of sketching, they show a very sophisticated sensibility?
Thank you for sharing.
My husband would like to know more about the paper you are using, which seems to be well sized, unlike some.
Thanks,
Cheryl and David

Excellent -not only your painting but your advice Thank you
Useful video! You nailed the beginner "fear of the second layer"..something I struggle with. Yes spoil n learn! Thank you!
you really seem to capture movement well in your sketches. I can feel the city just by looking at them.
Thank you for inspiring me to do water color again after almost 20 years
You are a fantastic artist and human! Thank you for sharing your skill!
I Will try to replicate this painting!
You're amazing!
I am so happy I found your tutorial videos, thank you for posting! Very informative, and relaxing, I have watched a few of your videos today and they are my favourite watercolour videos.
Thank you James.
you are fantastic!!!!! thank you very much for doing this!! you are giving me a lot of confidence
I love this video. I have for a while being attending a watercolour class (very good tutor) but I often feel inhibited in the class, not because I am afraid to make mistakes but because I am scared of being judged (not by the tutor but other attendees) if the end result isn't good enough. I really don't mind making mistakes and experimenting as I don't expect to produce a masterpiece. I am looking forward to looking at your other videos. it would be nice (if you haven't already done so) to be able to see you mixing the paints etc in your palette too. You're an inspiring and intelligent teacher.
Well, i don't know how good are these, but i am just sharing what i have gone through. I found, fear alone is the most responsible not allowing me to enjoy this medium, and one fine day i threw my all fear. Let me share my color mixing method very soon, thank you Miss.
I look forward to it. And Thank You.
I am a beginner and I am buying a full set of Sumi brushes. I love the way your pigments and washes lay down, and I have synthetic and pony and I am struggling. In 3 weeks I fully intend to become a Patreon. Thank you. You are a Master watercolorist. I would follow you anywhere, LOL!
Thank you Terrie, appreciate your willingness to learn watercolor. Mt best wishes
agree!!!
I threw it just like that Nitin, you made me laugh so hard!! That stupid brush is exactly what I am struggling with, so inconveniencing!
Your sketch book is a treasure for sure.
Thank you for your lovely video. It's very helpful and a like listening to your supportive narration. I wondered what colours your using and the sizes and where you can get the Chinese brush. Is it a natural fibre? Many thanks again,
Thanks Anna, i am using camlin artist watercolor, paper size is about A4. You can find this brush online - key search calligraphy watercolor brush.
You are truly a professional painter👏👏👏
Thank you so much for this video and all your encouraging remarks. I loved watching it and will look forward to telling my painting friends about it. The painting is so beautiful and full of sunshine and happiness. I will follow your advice and hope to be able to produce better watercolours by so doing. As you say, practice is essential if one wants to learn.
Excellent super lesson in painting loose !! I like your style a lot and I will use your lessons as a model for my paintings and experiments !
Thank you so much !
This is exactly what I needed. I am going to go through a lot paper from now on! Thank you

Hi Nitin,
thanks a lot for this tutorial. I'm starting with watercolors and watercolor pencils (Faber Castell Albrecht Duerer) and will try your tips. And I'll get one of the brushes you recommend.
For me as a bloody beginner you're really helping a lot
Just beautiful could you tell us which color you use in your video thank you so much
Thanks Nitin , I have become your patron. Thanks for your time & sharing your skills. I request others to support Nitin & become his patron if his tutorials are helpful to them.
Thanks Yeshwanth becoming my patron, this helps me a lot to share my passion with you guys. Thank you so much again.
Thank you for the inspiring words and enlightening that we don't have to copy exactly. I always have that inclination to copy every detail and my works turn out to be boring bec of it. I'll subscribe too on Skillshare.
Hello
Can you tell us what is your black pencil you are using in your sketchs book
Tanks
Brilliant, enjoyed watching and listening....hopefully I can put it all into practice.....thankyou....
Your sketchbook is beautiful Nitin! Great video!
I think this may be my favorite video of yours! (though I am still working my way through them.) Can you confirm that the products you have listed: brush, paints, PAPER - especially paper! Are the same exact products you used to create this work? Si many pple talk about using 100% cotton watercolor paper and this Canson XL paper does not appear to be that. And yet your results are spectacular! You are awesome!
Thank you for the wonderful demo, helpful with my attempt to learn H2O color.
Love your demonstration and your style.
Thank you.
