- We put this KaBar USMC Mk2 fighting knife through its paces to get you an honest review! This is an actual KaBar from Olean New York and we put it through leather and rip stop into meat to actually test self defense capabilities as well as doing a cut test and Bushcraft, using it while getting a fire going out in the Maine woods. Basically we tested it thoroughly for general use to see how it held up and how it performed overall.

Case Knifes and others make an incredible version of the USMC Fighting Utility knife. I have seen several manufacture’s of this knife in U.S. Marine Corps armories for the thirty years I was on active duty.

The ka bar is a good light duty knife
I just got a brand new kabar that I ordered a few days ago (probably my 10 or 11th one!) and I still Love Kabar, not just the knife, but also in reverence, and knowing the fact that our soldiers used this knife to defend our freedom, so needless to say, I will always have a soft spot for Kabar. What upsets me is that certain people and knife manufacturers, who obviously boast in the "Made In China" knives, beat on Kabar and then blame the knife when it's a combat knife made for specific purposes. Obviously, the knife will fail at some point, but let us remember that it is a utility knife, not an unbreakable piece of steel, or pry bar. Let us have reverence for those who served to defend the very freedoms we have, and continue to have, by owning this very valuable piece of history. Maybe these people should just move to China if they love those other knives and other Chinese-made things more, those who degrade the Kabar, maybe they would love living in an Orwellian State where their every move is monitored.

Thank goodness you came out of that encounter okay my friend. Predators no matter what kind they are are always looking for a victim; good on you for not being that victim! And yep I can definitely say one of these babies would definitely have the capability of interrupting the criminal thinking so to say and if it didn't it seems it would definitely make one heck of a pig sticker. Good video BUT The Ka-Bar is not a Bushcraft knife.... it is a self-defense knife the thrust or stabbing.
Its a fighting knife, it says it in the name...
If you want to get a knife for Bushcraft, then buy a Bushcraft knife (or) get a hatchet to go with this knife in the woods, because this is for slicing cutting, stabbing, Maybe little carving, Cutting string/ropes.
ITS NOT FOR A PRY BAR or to baton though wood.
I know it's good for what its made for, but its not a good bush craft knife, they snap easily when prying sideways. I had to repair a friend of mine's that belong to his grandfather because the tip snapped and the handle so I had to weld it and restore it for him it took quite a bit of work to make it look original again.
They are not stainless, so they require upkeep. But holy crap can they be sharpened. The leather handle and sheath is old school, they do have modern plastic for both. KA-Bar also makes a wide variety of knives.
I traded one of my navy combat knives to seal scary to Marin and back in they were issued one in Boot Camp with their social on it but he wanted that slick seal knife so badly he treated me even over and I still got that keyboard and she’s at razor Sharp

I've just gone back to the KaBar due to age and arthritis (73 years).now that I've gotten used to using it again I'm ready to hone the edge.
I could use some advice. I'm inEllsworth Falls are you nearby or can we speak via phone? Excellent video.

@andrewgeraghty4708 I'm actually a number of hours south of you down in the midcoast area. As far as getting a good clean edge, to be honest, it's really tough to beat the work sharp electric sharpeners. They make a few of them, and really they're all just great, in my opinion. They are like a mini belt grinder, super easy to use and super compact. It's what I use. I hope that helps. Have an amazing day.
