Great work! I always enjoy watching creative people like you! I work in a sawmill and we use log grapples. There is a difference between the type that drags a log out of a forrest and a grapple that lifts the log! Most things are over engineered but lifting heavy stuff requires some engineering.
This grapple I wanna use for lifting / dragging smaller alder logs for heating the house. It will come especially handy when using the timber trailer in symbiosis with a firewood processor.
I made one similar and it works great grabbing aand dragging small around birch and pine. I later built a triangle out of the same size tubing and connect it to the grapple for double duty. Drag logs out and then to grab cut offs up onto my log splitter by hand. You would be amazed how much more you can get through whern you don't have to grab them right off the ground. I can about double the amount split in the same amount of time and not be as tired or sore. Yeah I'm old.
Can't believe you spent money on the shackles! LOL Look great, I bought some from Harbor Freight several years back and only used them one time. My old ice tongs work best for my small logs.
Donn, this is a great video, I need to build a couple in different sizes. I have nine 40ft pine trees that either snapped of or been uprooted and I need a way to lift them so I can cut long sections of straight trunk into boards.
Hahaa! :D Might be. On my computer screen it looks red, on my phone screen it looks more orange-ish. It is really bright so it messes with the camera for sure.
My father bought a 100+ kg anvil just this summer. Me and my brother had to bring it home. It is missing the cone end but I'll figure something out and set it up in the shop.
looks like the weakest point is the bigger D ring on top that connects the two smaller ones since the smaller ones split the load, so id use it to whatever that D ring you hook your winch to is rated for.. however 99.5% of the time itll rip out of the log/bark before breaking
These shackles are pretty tough. I've used these on the big grapple and they're still fine. If these on the medium size grapple brake I'll just upgrade them to bigger ones. Then the grapple itself will probably brake. :D

Донни, вы молодец!
Great work. Thanks. Congratulations from Brazil.
great video, my last set of log grape hook was 75mmx 20mm flat bar cold rolled steel forged to shape , needed to be heavy Australian hard wood

So you made a handle for the grapple? It must be a great back saver.
You are a metal god!
Good job, as always! It seems that you REALLY like the color red!!
I like the price of this color. Which was cheap. :D
I was pretty sure you got a good deal on a large supply of it! ;D Looks good!
Would have been nice to see it in action
Super!!!!👍👍👍
Donn made an envil and a forge. good video
crazy man with the 9"
Didn’t like it? Who could have not liked it? It was awesome 😎😎😎😎
Excellent

Sorry dude, I have a weakness for shiny shackles. :D
Turned out very nice and I'm sure it works good too....
It works great!
Well done beautiful

Very nice. I looking around at different vids to get some ideas on a atv log carrier will defend lyrics be making a set of these. Thanks for the video
Now i want to see it in use👍🏻👍🏻
Then you must see it in use. ;)
Great work as always! Nice video:D
Thanks man! I'm glad you took the time to watch it. ;)
Мan you are well done. Как всегда... Класс!!!
Sposibo!
Donn DIY спасибо!
Donn DIY классно делаешь!
Nice job. I figures it’s time to see some stick welding action and what type of machine you got.
I might try stick welding in a future video. I suck at it though. :D
Nice. Other than the .49 chain ends I have all this in my garage and that thing is about $ 50 in the store.
What, no action in use shot at the end, Bummer! :)
Sorry bro, action will come. ;)
хорошая штука)
What length are the 2 steel tubes to begin with
ขอบคุณคะ
Ahh we gotta see them in use
I'll definitely put'em in use! ;)
Good build.
Cheers!
Is that really Red? Every piece of equipment you've painted looks Orange to me. I wonder if the whitebalance on your camera is off?
Hahaa! :D Might be. On my computer screen it looks red, on my phone screen it looks more orange-ish. It is really bright so it messes with the camera for sure.
EFormance Engineering I
In that very last shot of them they look more reddish, but yeah, everything so far has looked very orange :)
yeah it's Orange
EFormance Engineering my man is color blind
UNCLEDOUG HERE NICE JOB DAD !!! YOU NEED TO LEARN TO DRIVE YOU GO SIDEWAYS
7:37 Red? How about Orange. :)
You have to make a decent anvil, or at least bolt down your section of rail. Great video! Donn=red, Matthias=green, Jer=grey, TOT=blue... :-)
My father bought a 100+ kg anvil just this summer. Me and my brother had to bring it home. It is missing the cone end but I'll figure something out and set it up in the shop.
Quick project idea: Fasten that anvil down ;-)
Hahaa! Yeah. Don't want that to fall on my toes. :D
Good job, have you priced a grapple at a store no doubt overpriced, and you just fabricated one out of scrap that was lying around, well done !!
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
Nearly 380 000 kms ?
Wich year /engine is it ?
It's 1994. :D
Nice E36

@@DonnDIY how have these worked out im about to build my own, any changes youd make?
Great job Donn....Any progress on the new sawmill???
Not yet. Working on the ideas still on the paper. But progress will come!
Whats the biggest log you can pick up with it?
Maybe 40 cm in diameter maximum. Over that it will probably struggle.
Hi Donn,
Can you make me a set of grapplers like that.
Good work. Thanks
Good job:) what long pipe did you use for these wood tongs?
It's a dairy cattle fence post, 27-28 mm outside diameter, ~ 3 mm wall thickness.
ohh god i want to have this rail, but in my city there is not scrapyard with rails :(
Ananas Studio I've got abandoned rails all around where I live but I can't cut it. 😞

Wish you would have given us some measurements
It’s a lobster claw!
how could you not have a forge in your shop
I have some kind of a forge in the corner somewhere. Just haven't set it up or used it yet.
Tubli!
From where are you
Estonia. ;)
Donn DIY thx i found it on another vid but thx keep the vids up love the work
Can you let your viewers know that you're going to use a welding machine
cause red is fast!
Sounds like a slogan. :D
You should look into buying a plasma cutter so you don't have to work that grinder so much.
I've done that. I will do that eventually after the workshop rebuild. ;)
Burr over the tread a little
your dril press need more power its look very dill and dont dril holes very fast
If you cleaned your materials first you would probably have better welds. I always clean my metal first before I start my work
First :D
Millal teed video ahjuukse uue ukselingi valmistamisest?
Hahaa! Ukselink on olemas, lihtsalt tuli needist lahti ja pole viitsinud külge tagasi panna. Torutangid ajavad asja ära juba pikemat aega. :D
You're not done until it is tested.
