    Great work! I always enjoy watching creative people like you! I work in a sawmill and we use log grapples. There is a difference between the type that drags a log out of a forrest and a grapple that lifts the log! Most things are over engineered but lifting heavy stuff requires some engineering.

      This grapple I wanna use for lifting / dragging smaller alder logs for heating the house. It will come especially handy when using the timber trailer in symbiosis with a firewood processor.

    Donn, this is a great video, I need to build a couple in different sizes. I have nine 40ft pine trees that either snapped of or been uprooted and I need a way to lift them so I can cut long sections of straight trunk into boards.

    Can't believe you spent money on the shackles! LOL Look great, I bought some from Harbor Freight several years back and only used them one time. My old ice tongs work best for my small logs.

    I made one similar and it works great grabbing aand dragging small around birch and pine. I later built a triangle out of the same size tubing and connect it to the grapple for double duty. Drag logs out and then to grab cut offs up onto my log splitter by hand. You would be amazed how much more you can get through whern you don't have to grab them right off the ground. I can about double the amount split in the same amount of time and not be as tired or sore. Yeah I'm old.

      So you made a handle for the grapple? It must be a great back saver.

    looks like the weakest point is the bigger D ring on top that connects the two smaller ones since the smaller ones split the load, so id use it to whatever that D ring you hook your winch to is rated for.. however 99.5% of the time itll rip out of the log/bark before breaking

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 років тому

      These shackles are pretty tough. I've used these on the big grapple and they're still fine. If these on the medium size grapple brake I'll just upgrade them to bigger ones. Then the grapple itself will probably brake. :D
