That's what happened with our cat. She followed my DH to our front door and he said to her "if you come in, we'll keep you". She ran into the hallway although it's somewhat dark with no visible means of escape. She's still here, three years on.

It may be that you have to personally share a bond with a special animal - a soul-connection with another species - to appreciate the magic that's all around us.

I had a cat who was a stray. He was like this. We called him Pinky because of his cute tongue. Very lovable. We had 4 cats after we adopted him because he was a stray. ❤❤❤❤❤

I have been fortunate to have two orange females and three orange males
The last one was astray the neighborhood and I don’t know how to really explain it but I just knew he was a contender to come into the house
He cuddles with me in bed and I can give them all kinds of cat scratches when at the beginning they couldn’t even pet him he was never very feral acting which is a good thing
And I did get him neutered

My little stray chose us and we have her 11 years later and she is an absolute joy.
This is how we got Mr Milo haha he was running down our dead end road in January during an ice storm. He was a long haired orange male.. I just remember his fur being covered in ice and the most terrified look on his face!!! It took us alil more than 2 years to get him to like us lol love you Lo lo❤❤
