After Effects Tutorial - Handwriting calligraphy animation using the paint effect of the 'after effects', (this tutorial if you import the image on the 'after effects')
for everyone stumbling upon this video, looking for a simple way to make a calligraphy animation but not getting this tutorial here: he is basically drawing a white stroke over the text and than reverse animate it. thats it. but a even better way i found is to not use the painting tool with white color (just good for white background) but to use the eraser tool. (1) choose the eraser (2) double click the layer to go into layer mode (3) erase the text/image in the opposite way you want it later to be animated (4) go back to the composition and reverse the eraser. thats it.

For some reason AE CS5.5 won't invert when I turn on the Paint on Transparency. Do I have to have a later version of AE? Nice, quick and easy tutorial! I wish I could get it to work for me. I lost a job because of it not working!
just figured it out how to make it look natural. Under the stroke options, make sure the color is the opposite of what you want to reveal. Since mine was white, black worked.
+flor garat Sorry, but comments are difficult to find out the cause . View and check the version of After effects, paint tool , try again to check the process of applying the composition.
+Easy After Effects i couldn't find out the reason but i did it by working with several painting layers. Thanks a lot for the tutorial and for your response!
When i paint over my picture, like you do, and go back to the composition, the paint is still over the layer.in and when i go back and forward with the timeline, it wont show me the smooth path, i painted, but only the one whole paint. i just think, i missed a step, but really dont know what. please help!
I would like to see you again in 02 : 33. When you apply paint, it is Layer window. After applying paint, you have to activate composition window again.
I understand that, but when you switch to composition window after painting, the white paint "disappears". mine stays in front of the object. why is that so?

Hello, what is the brush size that you used? The hard round brushes are all too small for my words.
just found out, change your channel in the paint windows to alpha, easy after effects, I really don't know where you "get" this video from....
