hey love this tutorial, it honestly saved me because my ipad is broken! if you are someone who is looking for a shortcut, i would recommend using an ipad or phone with a drawing app. screen record, draw what you would like in white text with a black background, and stop the screen record. import it to your editing software and just use a lighten effect on it!
Interesting. What do you use for screen recording? Are you use Procreate or something? And what's your method for drawing wherein your drawings are precise?
Mine animates the same as the example, but when I add the echo it starts with the completed image and then slowly erases it in the motion I want it to come in as -- anyone know the problem?

Hey! If you go into the brush comp. Add a Fill to the solid layer and select whichever colour you like, then change the fill blending mode to screen/whichever one you like best :)
Thanks for the tutorial. My path is building off rather than writing on. Also what's the best way to apply this to a stand alone element. would you use this as a luma matte for a solid? Thanks.
Anyone have insight into why my shape animates-off? I'd like my letter to remain on-screen once it's been created, but after a moment it sort of erases itself (as if I was effecting "start" and "end" properties of a stroke, for example).
I've tried this like 15 times alongside this video and I keep getting the same outcome, I could really use some help with this. It works fine all the way up until I add the echo. When I play it back, the stroke starts erasing itself from where it starts to its end until its completely disappeared. I haven't reduced any opacity or anything. Any solution for this?
Hey, first of all thanks for the tutorial :) What do you recommend to stop the fractal effect at the end? I dont want the effect to reverse but to just stop when the letter is finished. I'd really appreciate an answer.
@@JakobWelker I'm by no means an expert, but I'd double the entire thing, but instead of adding the fractal to the mask leave it a full circle. Key it to 0 Oopacity at the beginning, key it to whatever your final opacity was on the first layer and you'll have perfectly round finish to your line...
still awesome... now thinking.. Could I use they adjustment layer as a mask to reveal a underlying image to add the bristle effect to the edge of the reveal?
Oldie but a goodie. I switched to doing that using particular because computers were not fast enough to handle that before. I can't say that it has gotten that much less processor-intensive.
ah shit never thought something like this was even possible! Insane! Thanks!
No worries at all. Glad I could help out :)

Thank you Michael; this tutorial helped me a lot. I really liked the way you explained it, thank you for making this
How Should ı cahnge the brush color?
Fractal noise has never failed to impress me, and its elites secret lol
The first rule of Fractal club 🤫
I was really lost at 2:40 and after ctrl+c you need to click position and ctrl+v he says paste but took me a while to understand he was saying paste.
30 min 😞
Thx bro
Thank you!! Thought it just wasn't working!
great tutorial as always michael!!
Cheers Kyle, thanks for stopping by :)
Hey! great video! looks like a brush!! how do you change the color of it????
Pretty goddamn awesome... Now how can you change brush stroke color?
I'd like to know that as well...
Great Video form your side. It shows simultaneously your skill and what AE is clearly lacking towards features ^^
Can u Change the color of the stroke? Edit: NVM got it, just used Tint effect under fractal, Great vid :3
Thanks!

this tutorial is amazing omg... i wish my computer could handle it 😭
Brilliant.
I've never seen a more controllable way to do this or similar effects, you are a crazy man, Michael. Be careful, we need you!
HOW IN THE WORLD WOULD ANYBODY EVEN THOUGHT OF THIS??! GENIUS! Thanks Michael! Great job!
Brilliant!!!
brush wow.
You’re the man !!!
Thanks Michael! Can’t believe how easy this stuff is when you explain it.
Thanks Moira! Always happy to break effects down into a nice simple tutorial :)
amazing.
totally unrelated to what I'm looking for but this is very interesting
Thanks!
2:43 Brush - P . what next when the position was opened ?! why the points were placed automatically on what did you click?
Хех, смысл тогда снимать видео? Если нечего не понятно.
Increase the decay and set the echo time to -0.003 and bam it will look even more realistic
thanks you sir

The tutorial is god, but when brush finished painting path after 1 sec everything erased. How solve this problem?
Can you change the colour in any way?
Sure, just use the black and white as an alpha over a solid colour or use the Fill effect.
my brush is not even moving 1 frame, I repeated it 13 times event copied steps
With an accent like yours, you need to name the main comp something else .
Thank you sir
Thanks for stopping by :)
What happens in the event we do not want it to echo out?
all this for a brush effect wtf, mannnn ae needs to get with the times
Thank you for your video!
Thank you for the view! :)
This is the best tutorial I've watched for animating brush strokes. Thanks!
"Best tutorial"... Level up ha. Thanks, glad I could help :)
Can anyone please let me know how to have the free transform handles for the strokes we create using the brush tool?
that's a great tutorial, but my pc wasn't that happy about me watching it😅
Excellent tutorial. Would expect nothing but the best from Yorkshire.
Remember what they say, if it's not from Yorkshire, it's _ _ _ _ _.
I've never seen a more controllable way to do this or similar effects, you are a crazy man, Michael. Be careful, we need you!
5 minutes of sweetness! Thank you!!!!
how to change the colour?

@@JoshCarne can I have two colors in the fill? I’m trying to make the vice city logo line and it requires white on pink
Add the tritone effect... most easy option.
Why do they make it so damn complicated..
after click cntrl + C what the next? :( i dont even understand
Perfect! Straight to the point. Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by :)
somebody knows why it flickers??
Thanks for the tutorial. My path is building off rather than writing on. Also what's the best way to apply this to a stand alone element. would you use this as a luma matte for a solid? Thanks.
Having the same issue, not sure why it is wiping the shape rather than building it?
hey all you need to do is set the echo time to a reverse time: like -0,020
Sounds like you're a fellow Hullensian? :D
How would you do this on a video background that isn't a solid color?
sorry i dont understand with your tutorial :(
after effects won't let me drag the brush comp into the timeline. is there a solution for this?
Is there any way to make the brush stroke white?

I'm having the same issue! did you find the solution?
You need to increase the number of echoes so that it stays on the screen
*edit - I figured it out - increased the echo time (Seconds)!
@@KelfranGt Great, I'll give this a go. Thanks!
For a beginner its too quick and complicated
This is ingenious! Thanks.
love it
Very Cool! Thank you.
I want to do something like this as animation on my website, any idea how I could do this?? :)
HAHAHA wow that was creative

increase the echo number

YES DUDE! I was gonna comment the same thing! I need answers! lol
According to the people in the comments, you gotta increase the amount of echoes! Hope it works!
@@gregllo424 Not really the way I want to. What I did now is to just frezze the last frame (create a still) and stretch that to the end.

I will publish this chancel, perfect bro
The rendering is taking a while but its awesome...

Sir can you please make a brush stroke animation of the text Gorkhas
