THIS IS SO GOOD ALREADY!!! I'm still very entry-level with KH and I am following sooo intently, you both do such a good job of explaining the concepts and the discussion is so much fun! I can't waitttt for episode 2 ❤
A very great first episode! Made me think about things that I’ve never considered even as a long time Kingdom Hearts fan. I love the duality of our cohosts and of the scripted versus non-scripted content!
Fantastic first episode. As someone who's grown up on the series and definitely has taken a deeper dive into the lore in recent years, loving the overall perspective/lore/discussions provided here so far.
Awesome podcast and helpful for me to remember the specifics about KH worlds and keyholes even as a veteran KH player. The Destiny Islands segment made me wonder if the Kingdom Key D is meant for Riku. Didn’t Mickey find it behind that same door that only showed its keyhole to Riku? The truth of that scene is going to come into play because it shows up in the first KHML trailer. “Everything is connected.” The way I treat reports in-game is that they may not physically exist outside of KH1. Sora probably doesn’t canonically read any of them, because otherwise I think he would know a lot more than he does. I treat them as info for the players and not a physical report that a character wrote, outside of KH1 as you mentioned. But it would be SO interesting to see that change and have Sora react to them! Thanks for making this series. I’ll be looking forward to future episodes.
With regards to the Ansem Reports and Sora reading them, you have to remember the order Sora finds them in. All the ones he finds prior to the reveal that Ansem is the Big Bad don't really have anything nefarious in them. It's the ones Sora gets after the fact that detail the cruelty of his experiments.
28:43 So like, on the topic of the natural state of the worlds and whether they are unlocked or locked naturally. I do think with the general theme of KH being about the power of connecting hearts and the fact that everything can have a heart. To the point that the world order is such that even a playing card can have a heart in wonderland. The World Order i think naturally wants to be one world, but is kept separate because of people like Ansem. Where the connection within hearts is powerful when its just Sora being Sora, but if someone can use the connection between hearts on the scale of worlds its such an all consuming power that it cannot be allowed to be. All the worlds have a forbidden romance.
Awesome podcast! I never even considered that Riku was actually always be able to see the Keyhole on the door in Destiny Islands. I always thought it was the world showing it to Riku. Knowing what comes in the future, either could be the case but I like the idea that he’s always able to see it.
That was a really cool first episode can't wait for the rest Keeping a question about Emblems and Purebloods restricted to KH1 is complicated, but let's try anyway : What's the deal with Purebloods being able to reach the Stations in Dive to the Heart ? Are those real or just manifestations of one's own darkness ?
Question for episode 2: At what chronological point did the heartless appear? are they always naturally occurring (barring Emblem heartless)? Also, I have a theory regarding Riku seeing the Destiny Island keyhole. Because Terra bequeathed him the keyblade around the time, he might have a sixth sense regarding the world order that Sora would not have at that point. Anyway, great podcast! Love that it has both scripted and discussion elements.
Regarding the "is that the same meteor shower?" question, consider there's a line stated in the first game and later repeated in KH2: "we all share one sky." Which means that yeah, chances are pretty good _everyone_ saw that meteor shower. Especially when paired with how Mickey is able to comment on the stars disappearing in his letter, all the way in Disney Castle, and then in Traverse Town Goofy points out the same phenomenon. Whatever is going on with the sky in Kingdom Heart's cosmology is probably universal. If its night time, you're seeing some stuff go down. Congrats on honing in on this small tidbit us neck deep into it haven't all picked up on yet, Hannah.
very late... I just want to say two important things... I see that you're trying to stick to only information presented in the first game, however, later games do in fact answer a lot of questions you're asking... but also, one, Leon says that Hallow Bastion fell nearly 10 years ago in the first game if you speak to him at the right time, so you do know how long ago the reports were made, and two, Aerith gives you the first Ansem Report where if you're reading them in the order you receive them, it reveals how he was the bad guy all along when the prior reports all appeared innocent enough on the surface before the twist happened
durring kh days, the organization makes it clear that pureblood heartless are a waste of time for roxas to defeat. why are there missions where roxas is instructed to defeat shadowglobs? are they pureblood? is this just weird ludonarrative dissonance?
This is my new favorite podcast. KH lore is a subject I love and you two approach it in such an interesting and fun way.
An absolute pleasure to listen to!

It's been so many years since I last replayed this game or watched the cutscenes, I completely forgot Riku sees the keyhole.
UA-cam is learning my hyperfixations well, putting a video from a new channel like this in my feed. :P
Looove the podcast.
Love this :D yay
