Josh: Totally unrelated to your Travel Lite 590SL truck camper review. But back in days gone by, wife and I had a Ford 150 with a truck camper. Studied for the bar exam in that camper. Then me, wife and infant son went west for a three weeks decompression trip after the bar. Blew out the front window on a low hanging branch in Yellowstone, had a rear axle separate from the differential in Sundance Wyoming and then a total electrical system failure in Milwaukee. Then in November, the front end and passenger sidewall of the camper totally collapsed. Haven’t had stick built truck campers since. But I did pass the bar. So that camper was good for at least something. Thanks for the trip down memory lane today. Respectfully, W.S.
Josh, you don't give truck campers enough credit. After my brothers and I left home, my parents went everywhere in their small, pop-up truck camper. A week at Yellowstone every fall, trips from Colorado to the Northwest for music festivals a couple times a year, etc. We grew up camping out of the back of an open-bed pickup and sleeping on the ground - they thought they were camping in the lap-of-luxury in that little truck camper and trips of two weeks at a time were not uncommon! They were CAMPING - they didn't expect to have all the conveniences of home when they were out in the great outdoors!
I like seeing the truck campers. I think they're a little more practical and fit alot in the space. I've watched alot of reviews on truck campers but I appreciate the additional details you provide on these.
Hello. Next to your Travel Lite -- i see a Rayzr camper. Any info on that. Will it fit a 1993 dodge dakota club cab. Who makes Rayzr ? Am in Southern Ca. Who sells the Rayzr. Help
@@adamkittok I don’t believe that’s something we have among our lineup. We have a pretty widespread footprint in the industry but we don’t carry necessarily every single thing that’s out there As a result I probably won’t be able to get my hands on one for you
That’s a good camper for a spur of the moment get away or when just me and my husband travel to visit family, who lives extremely rural and we wouldn’t have the stay in a hotel miles away. The size looks like a small solar generator would be plenty of power for what we would need. It was small but the light color interior helps.
They need to make these things with more foam board or something. This camper has a 39 inch floor base which is meant for small pick ups like Ranger or Tacoma but geneally their weight capacity is 1200 lbs. The camper jacks are 150~200 lbs, so if y0u remove them......it's just too heavy.
From the limited campers I've seen. I don't think there is one like the modification i think. I'll remove the kitchen and think of putting a wet shower if possible, or at least have a space for the porter potty. Then have a camp style medium grill type of gas stove. Or remove the frigde area, make a wet bath or at least the porter potty and have a 12v portable coolers like Dometic or furion.
@@davidireland3777 Big Mouth got kind of "high octane" as you mentioned. I get that's the point of the show and all but it started to wear me out Human resources though was always a great balance of light hearted and questionable humor mixed together
I wouldn't mind one of these, but I have yet to see one that will fit on my Frontier and not exceed the payload limit. I think I better stick with a towable...
An almost 5/8s ton Camper!! Nice share here Uncle Josh. Safely 3/4, but you would have to take care with what toys you tow in either case. My curiosity is peaked a bit on that zero-cabover Rayzor next to those two TLRVs. I think campers always have a soft spot with me because my earliest camping memories involve either our plywood teardrop trailer towed by our AMC Rambler or my dad's El Dorado Cabover camper on his '63 Chevy 3/4 ton
@@JoshtheRVNerd that’s what I thought when I saw it! Weird thing is that it’s a 2021 LT Silverado 4x4 with the 2.7T 4cyl engine. Yeah man friend of the family just bought a used beat up truck camper, they are going to store it behind our garage . Now we can really be trailer trash . Maybe I'll go blast the COMMODE 💣🚽💥💥
Interesting that the “porch light” on the back of the two campers are in different positions. I assumed they are identical models? Not sure it makes a bit of difference, but seemed a bit strange.
I do have a half ton so im too small for one. plus hiking myself up into the truck bed would require an act of god! i could see having one if i was younger and was pulling a small uhaul type trailer with my belongings inside, touring the world.
The more I see of truck campers, the more my mind dismisses them like smaller class C's, they're just not worth it because of how much weight they --allow-- limit you to. For as much as they seem cramped, the more expensive vans and B+'s make more sense because they allow enough weight to actually transport two modern adults, possibly a furry friend, and the clothes, food, and accessories required for living. They'd all be great for a solo camper/traveler, and if I was on my own I'd think they're amazingly cool, but for now the amount of weight these things consume continue to reinforce our decision to go with a bumper pull or fifth wheel. I suppose I also open up room for the rebuttal that not everyone will fulltime in their RV; that's fair but my response to that is for the amount of money I'm paying for ANY RV, I expect to get as much use out of it as I can!
I totally get what you’re saying here. They allow you some mobility other rv types can’t offer but beyond that a common towable often offers far more camper for the cost

Feel your pain for sure. Bought a brand new 2020 Nucamp Cirrus 720 truck camper and it has ben in the shop approximately 9 months out of 30 months of ownership. I sold my home and went full time and working remotely only to have a total heater failure after two months. Depressing to say the least.
Let's make it clear, this isn't a stick built camper. There's (no wood) in the construction. It has a fully welded frame, only wood is in the cabinetry. Maybe you should do more research, actually get you're facts straight before spreading a untruthful view. An, you're supposed to be an expert. Who, you really dropped the ball on this one. An also, with some simple upgrades to your midsize truck, airbags, stable loads, anti-sway bar, yeah you can very easily use this vehicle with a Ford ranger, Nissan frontier and the list goes on. Come on, you need to do better. Instead of trying to come off as comedic, maybe you should try to come off as truthful and knowing what you're talking about. I mean this is my opinion.
