They probably would have faced a lot less backlash had they released it as some kind of PS5 Complete Edition with some extra bells and whistles. You can't really call this a remaster and expect people not to call you out on it.
There are plenty of bells and whistles. A new game mode, 3 unfinished levels with commentary, a game commentary and other things. I think that 50€ is fine. Could've been 40, but it's only 10 bucks when you already own the game.
This game was released in 2020 and still looks beautiful. It doesn’t need a remaster. I disagree with re-releasing such recent games when there are older ones deserving updates.

The sound improvements are awesome. The upgrade in computing definitely gave them more ability to generate more overlapping environmental sounds and effects. Sounds great!
Thanks for uploading and taking the time to do this. For $10 I think it's worth it. The game is great. I only did 1 playthrough of it and really enjoyed it and have been wanting to do a second run. So for $10 it's worth it and the new mode sounds interesting. Just bought a 4K Projector and it's a 12.5 x 7 foot screen so this will be awesome.
Yeah me too, but i hope iron galaxy don't do it again, part 2 is a PS4 Game, like uncharted 4, it should run like the U4 in PC Port. for me runs well. Also should Part 2... I hope
So my takeaway is for returning fans, its well worth the 10$ upgrade based on the new content and few technical improvements and 50$ isnt bad for new players but definetly not worth it for returning players (just do the upgrade path) Thay said even new players might be slightly better off buying a used PS4 copy and taking advantage of that upgrade path, unless you really just want that PS5 box on your shelf.
Thanks to your comparison I can see a slight improvement, but unless you're playing with a magnifying glass the improvement is negligible. The original part 1 remaster made strides but to be fair, part 2 was a marvel and still holds up to next gen standards.
Sony Santa Monica just recently put out a free GOW DLC which added back the blade of olympus, got the voice actor of Helios to return to his role after all this time, created all new enviroments for the DLC to take place in and advanced the story. That DLC was entirely free. Naghty Dog upped the resolution and recycled already existing levels in a rogue lite and they charge money for it. They didn't even bother finishing the unfinished levels so they could use them in the rogue lite mode. It's honestly disgusting just how much Naughty Dog fell off in comparison to other Playstation studios. I can't help but feel that ND is creatively bankrupt now with the lack of new games and reliance on unnecessary remasters/remakes.
The lost levels arent large combat zones. They are very small linear connecting areas. They are more there for perspective on the games development process
@@kayra-bg2si "only" 50. lmao. This lazy re-relase of a 3,5 year old game shouldn't have cost anything over 30. Anything "new" in this "remaster" is recycled content from the main game. I don't like 70 being the new release price for AAA games, but at least GOW was a new exeperience, not a re-release. And it's DLC was FREE. Hell, even when GOT got it's own re-release for PS5 they didn't call it a remaster and they bundled it with a DLC with a completely new island. This TLOU2 "remaster" is shameless on every level.
i get your rage but its nonsensical to compare it with this, this can be treated as a solely new game for $50 ,if you own the game just add $10 which is not so bad.. you are nuts lol
@@FrancisSyCoCo The problem is that it's not treated that way by the marketing. It's treated as a remaster which it definitely isn't. They didn't remaster anything in the game, but they still market it as if they did. It's just a simple frame cap removal and resolution upgrade. This should have been just an update and if they really did want to double dip they should have just called this a directors cut, but even then the price is disgusting considering GOT at least bundled a new DLC when they did this. This re-release has nothing new except for those few levels which they didn't even bother finishing. Before release I thought the price might be justified, but after I found out the rogue lite recycles old levels then it's impossible to justify the price. This is just a low effort cash grab, it has neither the new content like GOT directors cut nor is it actually remastered at least as much as Spiderman remastered.
Both of the last of us titles are something that does not come very often. The remasters look great, even with small changes or larger ones. I think this is the company's way to see if investing into a 3rd entry will be worth it, financially speaking. I'm sure it's abundantly clear to the fans and most who have tried the game at the very least, it's a slam dunk. I'm a huge fan of both games but on the same token, completely understand those who disagree or are not fans of the remasters. Another excellent vid 👏✨️
I mean basically you'd spend 10$ to upgrade for the new mode, dual sense haptics and triggers, and commentary. Visuals are already there and remaster brings such a minor uptick that it is actually indistinguishable from the normal version but still appreciated that they unlike ghost of tsushima actually went and still did some touch ups to make it that more stable and consistent.
Well a UA-cam video is not going to show you the native 4k with 40-60fps vs the 1440p at 60fps on most phones. You can only see the difference on a 4k tv. Also the settings for the remastered version have to be on unlocked frame-rate with VRR enabled.
It should be a free update, it doesn't include any new assets or content, not even new textures, the engine was already capable to render that remaster if not held back by the PS4, they just cranked up the settings and charged that for 10$, it's awful, that's why Sony hates retro-compatibility so much, they want you to buy remasters and upgrades instead of enhancing the PS4 version you already bought
@@Smuglicense9359 We all watched the same video, but it's clear here what this is...a cash grab. Even with the new mode and 3 levels doesn't make this worth $10. Sony sold over $10M copies of this game. Even if 25% of those who own the original purchase this upgrade for $10, Sony just made another $25M for giving nothing that they couldn't already have given with a patch. This doesn't even include the individuals that may not have this game anymore, or never purchased to begin with, that will now purchase at the full $50 price. Home run for Sony...BS for the rest of us fans.
If you dont have the game you can just find a ps4 copy and get the upgrade, then you get an amazing game with new levels and a whole new mode for only 20 bucks.
Probably some time in the future, I'm quite sure it will eventually arrive on PCs. I hope this time around they do wait for it to be actually be ready before announcing it, so what happened with Part 1's port can be avoided lol

100% - this is especially noticeable when you compare that fight they showed at E3 with the axe dude with the final product. The faces in the E3 version were way more detailed.
This is the first time I've actually been able to see the difference, before this point I really did think it was just lighting changes. The Remaster does have nicer 4k textures afterall. Huh.
People who think the difference isnt enough and the games look identical, there is really only so much they can do, the game looked so good on its own, you cant really get a more realistic look
Yeah, that’s what everyone’s saying lol. So why even bother doing it? If it’s that difficult to update a three year old game with already fantastic graphics, then why waste resources and time in this? It’s simply for a quick cash grab and to please a demographic of people that are never content with anything.
Thank you for this! I'm watching this on my phone and about to play it on my regular 1080p TV. As you can tell it's these little differences that really count in my games
I think you knocked this out of the park. Outdid Digital Foundry easily, while the conclusion was the same (This wasn't needed) I still feel like you showed actual changes that weren't shown elsewhere. Great work!
AA while moving the camera or the character is moving, you can see in a normal scene the AA big improvement it has, something like jumping from FXAA to SMAAX2 or a bit better, when you use the screenshot mode ellie will recover the AA as it will not move a lot, it is like the boost function in amd gpus, that blurry the textures in movement to increase performance, to be honest the remaster form 10 extra bucks incluiding new content is worth it, but the new graphics could be avaible for people for free, but well you know the first crossgen games had this option of upgrade for 15 bucks, this is liek comparing a High settings vs ultra settings, you get a couple of graphic candies that doesnt change too much the experience but when you get used to those graphics you will see the other options bit too blurry for comfort, happened to me with the origin tlou, when the remastered added AA improvements and better resolution, which was more noticeable than now as it was from a 1080p scalated from 720 game to a native 1080p with a rescalated 4k option, it is somehow same treatment as the ps4 remaster and the game is not 70 bucks, which for part 1 was a steal, that part 1 was supposed to cost 40-50 at max not 70
Personally, i feel like the dulesense controller features integration is worth the $10 upgrade. I love both games and i feel its just like buying multiple copies of a book you like.
@@NightmareShark I'm aware of that, but I swear I remember seeing a trailer, (specifically in The rainy forest area where you first fight the Serephites) showing Ellie using a bow and talking about the resistive triggers. I'm actually going to go look that up rn
People fail to understand that often times companies utilize remasters of their older games to test out and learn new techniques that they are using for developing a new game. People act like they know everything nowadays and are looking for any reason to hate a company or corporation.
EXCELLENT VID as always Nick. Your vids are the best in this regard. Any idea if there is tempest audio / 3d headphones support? Would be great to play this with new pulse elite next month. I think the ps4 versions of bc games do not support 3d tempest audio but this should. man... RT can go to hell. This still look incredible and is much higher performance and image quality than modern games. wtf modern games. Your video is great! I’ll be buying it for $10 just for the behind the scenes content and Rogue mode. Ya it’s not a remaster that was needed but I love this franchise so I’m going to give it a try.
The graphical improvements may be very slight but being such a huge fan of part 2 i'm more than happy to replay it again and appreciate these subtleties. Great breakdown without too much overly technical analysis.
This is what we call in my country a "Gut roar" for the company, they just ask 10 dollars extra to add stuff that they already got but where lazy af to add it in time😂
True, though that's very common with "remasters" anyway. Remasters are basically just going from medium to very high. Or in this case.. high to very high
Fidelity + unlocked frame rate (VRR) did let me see a difference. I do see improvement! Also, the custom routes the ai does while patrolling have changed a bit too. I was practicing an encounter prior to this update and was getting really good at it with the timings. To my surprise, once I updated the game, everything I was doing stoped working! I ended up getting caught constantly. So, I am definitely gonna do another run of the whole game cause of it.

There is still some difference between the "performance" version and the "60 FPS version" on the original version. E.g. distant objects are more detailed, lighting is slightly better, face models are slightly more detailed, but yeah you really have to focus on it to see it.
At 7:35 you mentioned that the water rendering didn’t change. But there’s clear differences between the original and the remastered in the remastered you can see the water is transparent and you can see to the bottom. Where as the original can’t

the fact that this game can now run at 120fps on a 4K monitor is unbelievable, really shows what the ps5 is capable of. I welcome any opportunity to replay this game and as I’m going through it with all the settings like VRR, HDR, 4K output the difference really is night and day if you have the display to go with it. at 1080p there is no difference but at 2K and 4K the detail is almost lifelike, despite it being small upgrades here and there, it all comes together to create possibly the best looking visuals in a game to date

They did so well getting this game looking this good on the PS4
Always look forward to these comparisons!! Excellent content and very well made video as always bro. 👍🏻👍🏻
your videos are always so thorough and professional
I was like “ok I see an improvement,” then I realize I was looking at the regular version.
I think the only reason to create this was to put this out on PC in the future. They did it with Spider-Man Remastered and TLoU Part 1.
TLOU2 is one of the best-looking games out there, even to this day's standard. Simply a beauty to look at.
I hope they'll bring it to PC though.
Yeah me too, but i hope iron galaxy don't do it again, part 2 is a PS4 Game, like uncharted 4, it should run like the U4 in PC Port. for me runs well. Also should Part 2... I hope
@@sebasnm3560 i mean, they worked on the same engine for part 1 so i think nobody would do it better than Iron Galaxy at this point
A PC version was the only reason for this remastering.
Also part III will be available for PC after the PlayStation release.
*The best looking game out there
yeah, i just wonder when it comes out, cant wait to finally play it@@pseudonym4034
So my takeaway is for returning fans, its well worth the 10$ upgrade based on the new content and few technical improvements and 50$ isnt bad for new players but definetly not worth it for returning players (just do the upgrade path)
Thay said even new players might be slightly better off buying a used PS4 copy and taking advantage of that upgrade path, unless you really just want that PS5 box on your shelf.
I can always depend on my guy Nick for coming through with the comparisons. I can't wait for the GTA V vs GTA VI video
why would he compare a ps3 game with a ps5 game ?
Because it's the same franchise and he always does it? Doesnt matter the generation @@cypressdogsy425
@@cypressdogsy425 bro, he literally compared OG Resident Evil 2 to the Remake. That's a bit bigger of a difference than ps3 to ps5

Thanks to your comparison I can see a slight improvement, but unless you're playing with a magnifying glass the improvement is negligible. The original part 1 remaster made strides but to be fair, part 2 was a marvel and still holds up to next gen standards.
When a game already looks this close to real life, there's not much you can remaster.
Biggest change is the loading screens, this alone justifies a remaster
Gow ragnarok also costs 70 bucks, this is only 50 for the main game and dlc.
Nostalgia brings in so much money for game companies because spending more money for the same exact game for a little better graphics is crazy
3 new unfinished levels, a bunch of new customization, and a whole new mode for only $10 if you already have the og game.
@@Smuglicense9359 the industry as a whole is in such bad shape.
I just don't understand how people can have nostalgia for an okay game that's less then 4yrs old
Especially after 4yrs... Like just book up the copy you have
The remaster for the first game came out 1 year after the game originally released and I don’t see you complaining about that
i was surprised that it has its remastered version, but they should have remastered the story line not graphic lol
As a fan of the series, I appreciate the option to upgrade your game for 10$
It's getting borderline dystopian that companies are able to just do this sort of soulless shit on a whim
While they fill the void of the lack of new original releases they can just throw a cash grab like this with as little effort as possible
@@curiousmind_ Its 10 dlls if you already own the game, see it as a dlc, idk why y'all cry so much about it
No one's buying the remastered for the visuals, it's ten quid for a new game mode, new levels and bonus skins + unlockables
Both of you are spot on they are promoting the new mode more then the improved graphics
@@itriyum Because it's promoted as a remaster, not a DLC
Reminds me of the nfs hot pursuit remaster..
My thoughts EXACTLY
Burnout Paradise Remastered too 😭😭
Both of the last of us titles are something that does not come very often.
They should just released a box set with last of us part 1
I'm sure that will be available on steam when this comes to pc
Oh boy I can’t wait for this remaster to get a remake!
Playstation is such a joke these days. Should be called 'remake station.'
Great comparison as always man, thanks for sharing!
"Corporate has asked you to find the differences in these 2 pictures"
If you played the original and called it a “remaster” I wouldn’t even notice any differences honestly. The game didn’t need a remaster in my opinion
It should be a free update, it doesn't include any new assets or content, not even new textures, the engine was already capable to render that remaster if not held back by the PS4, they just cranked up the settings and charged that for 10$, it's awful, that's why Sony hates retro-compatibility so much, they want you to buy remasters and upgrades instead of enhancing the PS4 version you already bought
did you even watch the 2nd part of the video about the new mode and 3 levels
@@Smuglicense9359 We all watched the same video, but it's clear here what this is...a cash grab. Even with the new mode and 3 levels doesn't make this worth $10. Sony sold over $10M copies of this game. Even if 25% of those who own the original purchase this upgrade for $10, Sony just made another $25M for giving nothing that they couldn't already have given with a patch. This doesn't even include the individuals that may not have this game anymore, or never purchased to begin with, that will now purchase at the full $50 price. Home run for Sony...BS for the rest of us fans.

Yeah im definitely going for Fidelity mode unlocked fps. Its a no brainer espacially since i have a 4K VRR monitor. And its the best way to see the improvements.

Corporate Needs you to find the difference this picture and this picture.
They’re the same picture
I started playing this when it first came out because I was so annoyed with the lack of details on the jean stitches, I am glad they have addressed this
I would have liked to see if enemy fidelity had improved - the models are lower quality and it’s pretty noticeable when they grab you.
Then why did they feel a need for a remaster if there’s so little to improve on?
They should bring a PC port too if they are gonna charge for a new version I think
actually there is, sub surface scattering on NPC & players face and higher quality ambient occlusion like in the TLOU2 E3 trailer
Yeah, that’s what everyone’s saying lol. So why even bother doing it? If it’s that difficult to update a three year old game with already fantastic graphics, then why waste resources and time in this? It’s simply for a quick cash grab and to please a demographic of people that are never content with anything.
Oh come on😂
They knew exactly what they were doing. Call a spade a spade. It’s a money grab
Great work!
Man if they brought a multiplayer with this it would sell millions of copies
Sony wanted to turn it into a full live service for some reason... It was canceled but it was also a bad idea.
Seems like the biggest difference you’d feel is the haptics. This was one of the biggest going from part 1 to 2.
You noticed a lot more changes than digital foundry.
Lol yeah how did they miss those details. Usually it's them who notice those the most
I honestly think you did a more thorough analysis than Digital Foundry. Well done!
I love both games and i feel its just like buying multiple copies of a book you like.
wasn't the dualsense support promised to be in the game from the beginning tho?
@andrewjames3607 ps4 didn't have dulesense features. Part 2 was released on ps4, not 5.

People fail to understand that often times companies utilize remasters of their older games to test out and learn new techniques that they are using for developing a new game. People act like they know everything nowadays and are looking for any reason to hate a company or corporation.

EXCELLENT VID as always Nick. Your vids are the best in this regard.
