    I have a similar set up in my Stinson 108-2. It is a great upgrade. Not as smooth as a Franklin for sure. But is far easier to get parts and service. Also, I trust it. Mine has two oil coolers and runs way too cool in winter if not blocked off.

      Mine runs one cooler and I need to block most of it off in the winter. I'm wondering how it will do in the summer. The trust is where I'm at with this engine. I didn't trust the Franklin any longer and there was no way a Franklin could earn my trust again. It's good to hear you like yours, I'm hoping after a year I feel the same.

      Will get some numbers and some videos on why I decided to go this way. I'm still really not sure what it will do yet. So we'll all figure this out together!

    Changed out the Franklin for a Lycoming 0-360 one of the most reliable engines in aviation. Good move.

    My inspector put this engine on his 172 and with 4 big adults in it that thing will climb like I couldn't believe. I had to get used to the torque when applying full power at the stop. Thing wanted to pull us left right off the runway without full rudder and a bit of right brake!

    • @GreatMichiganBushCo

      You should feel the pull this setup has on a tailwheel :-) It's amazing how horsepower makes pilots excited. Stay tuned for more videos on this conversion.

      @GreatMichiganBushCo I can Imagine, a 172 with 800 lbs of men in it weighs quite a bit more than a 108. Lol

    Who did the O360 overhaul and what was the turnaround time? Did you provide the core or buy something off the shelf?

    • @GreatMichiganBushCo
      @GreatMichiganBushCo  8 місяців тому +1

      Aviation Center in Ann Arbor did the work. The turn around time was a couple months. I purchased a core from Wentworth. This project took me 2 years to complete. I had been gathering parts and STC's so when the plane went down I knew it would be back up quickly. I didn't want it to turn into a 5 year project.

    What is the approximate empty weight of this aircraft extension 108

  • @paulintexas
    @paulintexas 8 місяців тому +2

    Getting ready to do the same on a straight 108 (fuel lines and rudder bungee setup of course). I'm assuming this is the Univair STC?

    • @GreatMichiganBushCo
      @GreatMichiganBushCo  8 місяців тому +1

      No, I used the Coopers Landing STC. It looked to be more complete and has a tuned exhaust. People who use the Univair STC seem to like it. Good luck with your conversation in the you will love the plane!

      @@paulintexas thanks for watching the videos. So far I have only recorded one Vy takeoff and I was getting 1750 FPM with 1/2 tanks and me in the aircraft. I'll have more videos coming out going over the numbers and even respond I went with this particular STC. Hope to see you in the skies!

    Whose kit? Cooper? Did it come with everything you needed!

    • @GreatMichiganBushCo
      @GreatMichiganBushCo  8 місяців тому +1

      It was a Cooper's landing kit. I purchased it with most of what I needed. There's obviously some hardware and some wire but all the major components are included. It made installation easy or at least easier than I thought it was going to be
