Solo Traveling to Far East Turkey - Armenia's Border [Ep. 2] 🇹🇷

I flew over a thousand kilometers leaving Istanbul to see the mysterious Turkey's Far East. There is a little trace of Europe to be found in this vast distance swathe of land bordered by Syria, Iraq, Iran, Armenia, and Georgia. Turkey's Far east is foreign even to many of its countrymen.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveler and UA-cam creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveler, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on UA-cam, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on UA-cam.
My both great grandparents, Armenian, are both from Kars and it is so amazing to see this. Thank you for sharing. Peace to all!
That is awesome. I thought there was more Armenians in Istanbul
Very grateful for you to visit Ani, a former Armenian great heritage city but now belongs to Turkey. Thanks so much for your visit and bring us updating information.
Armenians were never had a thate in kars since the byzantine
Syifa! honestly, when i saw the video you sent me when you were on the way, I think the landscape looks amazing but wow, now seeing from birds eye view got me MINDBLOWN!! Watching your video makes me feel like I'm casually listening to sister telling me a story - very friendly + educated... i don't know how to exactly explain the feeling, I hope you understand me!:) anyway, you make me wanna see more of TURKEY ! 🇹🇷

Hi comme türkey 💋
...Cars city in the very east of Turkey, a melting pot of cultures... this is an absolutely beautiful, very atmospheric episode of your travelings, Syifa - I watched it spellbound... you couldn't have done a better job with this one. I love it when you weave your own experiences (smile with your eyes, when wearing a mask) and feelings (missing the smiles of other culture's people) and also some wise words (you fear what you don't know)... its so true... why are we so afraid of what we don't know... traveling like you do, can heal and bridge those gaps, and you documenting your travels helps overcoming those barriers for the watchers... I haven't been to that corner of the world, right at the borders of Europe and Asia, and I fell in love with the landscape and the stillness, that it emanates... and the friendliness of the people you show... so sad that right there are borders that we aren't allowed to cross... I wish that human distortion would be overcome one day, and we can travel like the migrating birds... thank you again, dear Syifa - I loved every second of your clip xx
I am really enjoying your videos. You have more courage than I do to travel alone, but you visit very interesting places!

Hello Adriana from Turkey,
First of all, I do not think you are bad person and wish you good luck in your travels.I personally enjoy watching travel channels on youtube and also traveler myself too.
I have watched your videos about Turkey travel but with all due respect after watching them it made question what kind of tourist you are for your Turkey videos at least.
on 1.32 - 1.41 you mention local language is sounds very different than turkish, but actually everyone in your videos spoken turkish, also I have seen many travel channels and whether they visited asia, africa, america etc none of them dont even mention what language they speak for like %99 of time. Also when I visited a lot of countries and I can speak 3 different languages beside my native turkish and I am someone really intrested in different languages yet I never even metioned my friends etc after returned from said countries when I was sharing my experiences with them.
At 7.52 out of blue '
''This side is Turkey and the other side is Armenia'' and ''In a world without borders you can actually go to Armenia, sadly you can't go to Armenia from Turkey''.
Now these would be pretty normal, but the way you mention them so suddenly out of nowhere just plain weird, also your face expressions look rather strange as well, I mean like as if you are an actress at filming a bad actress at that but during the scene you forgot your line and someone behind the scene actually suddenly reminded you to say it, almost like as if you are acting according to some sort of a scenario planned out before hand.
A normal tourist would have said more something like ''I want to go to Armenia as well but sadly Turkey - Armenia doesn't have open borders'' and for a fact your english is very good I m sure you are more than capable to express it like that.
Between 8.55 - 9.18
You start with ''Can you see the church?'', ''its an armenian looking erh armenian architecture church'' and at the 9.18 you completed giving out information about church's history and again out of blue, out of centext you say this ''and just like that is the border of Armenia'',I mean yeah you describe an church, explain its' history and say go to mention border stuff again.
Here is a travel channel, He is from Denmark(one of the top countries as human rights index, he is clever guy who competes international math competitions), his channel SpagettiRoad.
ua-cam.com/users/1337BERhAXORSeBe
He received a lot of comments from serbians just for visiting Kosovo but respectly explained his reasons and you know he didn't even talked about Bosnia - Kosovo War not because he didn't know about it but because his channel was about his experiences not about history or something else.
By all means I m not saying you are not allowed to mention these things and the genocide, but again I definitly not tourist like. The most people who visits Turkey from abroad doesnt go these places, if you search up ''Turkey'' on the google or the internet you would barely find any information and definitly not Turkey's main tourist attractions if your travel log of Turkey was like this first Istanbul then Izmir then Ankara then Cappadocia then black sea region and finally eastern Turkey that would have made a lot of sense but checking your travel track for Turkey, you first visit Istanbul which is very normal then suddenly out of blue decide to go some places that foreigners barely know, let alone visit and make rather strange, sudden comments about them. Also in your Istanbul video again you mention weird stuff, what I mean by weird is non-tourist like and while you are mentioning these stuff, let me tell you, your face, your mimics and your expressions look so fake and phony, at least in my opinion.
So long story short the way you mention those stuff made me and a lot of other people think that you have a hidden agenda with these videos but disguise them as something else by mixing with your tourist stuff in my opinion, which is straight up dishonest and sly, if you had named this video ''Former armenian provinces before genocide'' or something along those that would be alright. I dont know why you are doing such underhanded actions, with again the way you mention those stuff you made me and a lot of people think that your Turkey trip ''sponsored'' by someone or some groups or organizations.
With all due respect.
100% agree it sound more political than just a traveler. You have to be very cautious when you mentioned genocide ,there still a lot of version about what happened back then. And it was very controversial and provocative subject.
No fucking shit she visisted eastern turkey so obviously theyre kurds and going to be speaking kurdish, they only speak turkish because turkey occupies kurdish lands
Ani kars are all cities from Armenian kingdom they where stolen from the Armenians after the genocide Turks toke these lands but all the evidence is here that this lands are all Armenian kingdom lands and history of Armenians that Turks took from us.
@@t3mper I have no problem, what you think about it neither what she thinks about it nor what she wants to talk about it.
I just pointed out facts on the video timestamp by timestamp, that she comes to a country as a “tourist” and publishes a “tourist” video while her goal was different.
What a bs statement. Can't she even mention that a building is of armenian architecture without having à "hidden agenda" ?
Paranoia at its peak.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing and beautiful video.
I love so so much Turkey country and amazing places in Turkey ♥️♥️♥️🙏
Hi Syifa, I used to watch your videos when you were still teaching English in Ningxia Province. Glad to see this new video on the eastern part of Turkey, which has rarely been shown! I really enjoyed it!

After long time watching your new video. Love from Nepal.
My great great grandfathers and great grandmother were from Kars, who were Armenian. My other great grandmother was from Georgia and eventually they all ended up in Georgia. Amazing to see where they were from even though I am sure much of it is different now. I wish there was peace on earth between all nations, especially for the neighbor nations who have so many things in common. Thanks for sharing such an incredible video. Peace to all!

Thank you so much for this beautiful and inspiring video! I’ve been to Turkey four times and counting the days to go again!
Greetings from Brazil!
I went to kars last year in winter, and it was a bad decision because kars winter is freezing cold and I wasn't prepared for this 😅, but it was an amazing experience because I took a sleeping train all the way from ankara to kars and the scenery from the train windows was magical 😍.
Your camera captures such sharp, detail images. The information your provide in your clips is so educational.
Thank you for this special video.
Kars has been a Turkish city since 1064. Sultan Alparslan took it from the Eastern Roman Empire..
The origins of Kars is Armenian in antiquity. Controlled at one time by the Armenian Bagratuni Kingdom, before any Turkic tribes came to this region from Asia.
@@lynetteh824 The Turks conquered the city of Kars in 1064 and became Turkish territory.
@@lynetteh824 Crimea was Turkish territory until 1774, but now it is Russian territory.
@@tarikoncu8909 & it went back to Russian territory where it belongs, before your Turkic tribes even appeared in this region from Asia.
@@tarikoncu8909 History is made up of many incidences, soon you will see the new geographical future of Turkey on the world map. In a few years the WHOLE of ancient historical Western Armenia will be joining with Armenia proper; so will Nakhichevan & Artsakh, all going back to the original & rightful owners. Just wait & see; I know you won't believe me so you're going to have a major SHOCK!!! :) 🥳

Dear Adriana,
Watching you after ages. So Beautiful to watching you.
Beautiful shot!
Love your videos, Syifa. They are getting better and better. I hoped you will travel to Armenia and African countries too in coming future. Would love if you also show more of your country especially Sulawesi, Timor and Papua coz I would love to visit those parts of Indonesia that's not popular like Jakarta and Bali.
Keep traveling, make memories, spread kindness and joy wherever you go. 👍👍
Looks like Turkey series is going to be really lit 😀
@•• Which propaganda channel you watch lol. This is a travel vlog, if you want politics there's RT, Caspian report, unsenscored China etc for you 😂
@•• I don't think so. She's just showing what it is without even getting political. It's a travel vlog. I don't see anything remotely political in her video.
Greetings from Ecuador ! You should come to Ecuador someday !

First of all I would like to apologize for always attending onto your videos very lately. Not because I am lazy or busy, but more like I need to prepare my heart, my emotions and my feelings because of the way you present these videos very touching which I am easily carried away by them. I’m literally shedding tears for some reasons. No further comments about Turkey or elsewhere inside of the country since I’ve never been there before, just want to share my impressions in regard to this. Keep spreading positivity, be kind and be happy wherever you are. Terima kasih yaa!
Seeing Ani filled my soul, thank you for this

Nice video 👍. lots of love from Nepal to beautiful sister.
I am completely spellbound by the magnificent views of Kars City and the far eastern region of Turkey, including the historically significant Ani ruins spread over a vast area of tranquil land. Syifa's presentation is, as always, very very impressive and the background music is also thrilling.
Yes, this is indeed a very special episode!
Good to see you Syifa keep smiling and keep travelling all the best

Excellent one, love the choice of music, especially the opening sequence, keep up the good work....Peace and JaYoe
New subscriber here! Love this video so so much. Never seen anything like it.
Nice video and more!
I just came across your this video and found it really interesting. You have a very soft personality and I wish you all the good luck to your endeavour.
And if you are already traveling to Turkey from Indonesia, you will get better information / feedback about the areas from where you shoot videos as a UA-camr. Until 30 years ago, Kars had a very colorful mix of peoples as well as the Caucasus bordering Kars including Baltic / Germans, Orthodox Russians (Molokans / Douchaborze and other ethnic groups) with the majority of Turks (Kyptschak, Karapapak and Azeri Turks) and yes but also Kurds as a minority. If you say or claim in your video that the language around Kars is mostly Kurdish, then that is either consciously or just ignorance. The same would be if I were to shoot a video in Jakarta and claim that the majority there speak Mandarin or Indian, in Diyarbakır, Ağrı, Batman etc, the majority language is Kurdish. U d it is very interesting to see that Kurds from Iraq / Syria etc are interested in Kars as well as in the comments here. IMMEDIATELY CORRECT this video in the context of "Majority Language". Kind regards
💚 from Armenia. And thanks for what your are doing! Your history knowledge is really good 😘
I m glad😊 you work so hard... Good luck🤞🍀
Planning to visit in July this year. Thanks for the video
Amazing drone shot. Never seen this side of Turkey before, that's why you're one of my favorite travel vlogger not only travel to mainstream places but also travel to the other side of the country that not being explore by many people. Brave solo female traveler, you deserve more viewers and subscribers than those bunch of vloggers with pretentious lifestyle.

You're living my dream. I'd love to travel to places that is less known. Great content. Keep up the good work!!!
You are the best vlogger of traveling !
Loved your enthusiasm 😊
Syifa, God bless you for not only putting together this beautifully shot video of Kars and Ani, highlighting its culturally mixed history, but also for not shying away from its history. Despite the outrage of many Turkish and Azeri people on here, we have reached a point in academic discourse where it is no longer tenable or appropriate to say that the genocide didn't happen. Enough evidence has come to light, enough scholars have examined and written about the subject, and enough countries have recognised it, and no matter how much Turkey and nationalist Turks protest, the evidence and concensus won't change or disappear.
If you liked Kars and Ani, you would absolutely adore Armenia - if you do go, be sure to visit Khor Virap, the pagan temple of Garni, Tatev Monastery, Lake Sevan, the "Armenian Switzerland" known as Dilijan, and of course, Yerevan, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth. Literally thousands of years of history contained in a very small place.
Thank you so so much AVA for your kind comments ❤️ If only I can give thousand likes to your comment!
