- This great song is taken from the Oscars cermony. Its from the end credits of Barbras "The Mirror has two faces" Lovely song sung originally with Brian Adams. It was up for an award and Natalie Cole was supposed to sing it for the show but she was taken ill and thats where Celine stood in. Enjoy.

The story of what happened after this is quite touching
Barbra was so excited to hear Celine perform her song but before Celine sang Barbra had to go to the bathroom and she went but it was like half a mile away from the Oscars room
so she gets there there's a long line and they go "Barbra your just gonna have to wait girl." And Celine sang the song Barbra comes back a few moments later and her husband says "you missed the song." And Barbra said herself that she was horrified.
Barbra then saw Celine and explained everything. The next day she sends Celine flowers with a note that says "next time let's do one together." And Celine didn't take this seriously she was like yeah well you know she was just being nice but her husband/Manager Rene took it very seriously and called up Barbras manager and asked if she was for real and it turns out she was.
So David Foster wrote a song for them to sing they went and sung it. It was called Tell Him and many called it the duet of the decade however
they were suppose to sing it at the Grammy's but sadly Barbra got the flu and Celine had to make a Titanic replacement and sing My Heart Will Go On which was quite unfortunate but at least we got something from Celine. But it would have been better with barbra

As much as I love Barbra, Celine just killed this song and took it to another level.
Don't really care what people think of Celine singing this song, because fact is there is a video of Barbra talking about this night and how she was moved by Celines performance and in that same video Celine said that night she met her Idol Barbra and that night they became good friends and Barbra said to her that they should do a song together and they did, And its one of my Favorite duet pair that Celine has ever done, Just brilliant......

She never wanted to be Barbra Streisand. She took the song and gave it her own style while still managing to respect the writer's message of the song.
Barbra was so moved by this performance that she and Celine did a duet afterwards. So let's face it: Celine must have done something right here even if you prefer Barbra's version.
I am more a fan of Celine in general, but I still would never deny Barbra her talent, uniqueness and after all respect for all she's accomplished. You shouldn't do it for Celine as well.

I have never been a big fan of CD....but this impressed me. BS's version, just in my opinion, was tragically overproduced. Simplifying the arrangement and Sandoval's accompaniment was a stroke of genius. When ur under the gun to get something done...sometimes something special is created. I'll bet when B heard this version she probably wished she had thought of it. By far the better version.

Celine has a great set of pipes, but there is no vulnerability in her singing. I prefer Babs...but nice to Celine to step in.
I heard vulnerability for days. The words she emphasized and paused at, that's where the soul comes from . Nuance.

Celine dion did the best she could and did a really good job considering it's not her song and she probably had to learn the lyrics and melody fairly quickly. It's crazy she has the music sheet on stage with her and needs to flip the pages! But only Few singers like Celine could pull this off. Still not sure why Barbra couldn't just sing her own song on stage with Bryan Adams! It's like girl it's your freakin song!

So Natalie Cole was contracted to sing it, but she fell ill, so Celine Dion was asked on Sunday morning to fill in. BS then heard about it and offered several times to sing the song, but was turned down, as Celine Dion had already been contracted and had rehearsed the song with the orchestra and production crew. Barbra and hubby Brolin decided last minute to attend the ceremony, and Barbra missed Celine's performance, because the songs are not listed on the program and she thought it was a break. ( So she says ) Then the press claimed that it was a deliberate snub of Celine, but Barbra is adamant that she was heartbroken to have missed the performance, and explained it all to Celine after the show.

We can't compare two different people! Celine has her own singing voice and Barbra has hers too. Both have a gift. Both are unique and both master their voice amazingly. You can ''not love Celine D.'' but you can't deny the performance here, come on! Her voice is cristal clear on this performance, she mastered mixing up the powerful and soft and smooth all at the same time and you can definitely tell that she feels the song and no one else could have delivered what she delivered that night. It was not just marketing when they asked her last minute to sing a 2nd song that day. Her voice matches the song perfectly as well. Two different people, two different voices but the same, unique gift. Makes sense?
