This is what separates the men from the boys (or in this case, the women from the girls). Anyone that can sit down and sight read both music and lyrics like that on short notice is extremely skilled. No matter what anyone might think of Celine Dion personally, you have to marvel at her talent.

Barbra was working on her album "Higher ground" while Celine was working on "Let's talk about love" and they both got together to record a duet so that the industry and critics didn't pin the two artists together knowing both albums were released the same year. They didn't want people choosing sides and causing music wars. Barbra knew Celine listened to her as a child and always wanted to sing with her but never met her because Celine toured so much. So Barbra thought it was the perfect time to meet and record a song they could both put on their albums to show their love for each other. It was Barbra who asked Celine to sing this song at the Oscars because she had worked with her on Tell Him and knew she would be perfect. Celine said yes instantly as a favour to Barbra! Barbra also tried holding off having to go to the bathroom but could not hold it any longer and had to go pee. The bathroom is so far from the stage that when Celine was singing this song Barbra was stuck in the bathroom and missed it, but she could still hear it from where she was. A lot of critics tried to say Barbra left because she didn't like that Celine was asked to sing her song but that's not true. She was simply too far away to make it back to her seat in time and even Celine has said that Barbra went back stage to apologise for missing the performance

I remember the night this was on tv. I was so excited because Celine performed twice on the show. Celine adds a tone of hopeful sincerity that is lacking in the original. The lyrics are clever and Celine brings them to life. The ending is haunting. Lovely. (The trumpet player should have been in the orchestra pit though. WAY too close to her.)
This was phenomenal. She sang it live like it was nothing and so beautifully, and with little rehearsal. Brilliant (noone in mainstream has killed it like this since Whitney, Mariah and then Celine).
I like how the key changes are completely different to fit Celine's voice and to make it sound like a decent solo version. That makes the fact that Celine sang this with a day's notice even more impressive because it's one thing to vaguely know a song, another thing to be able to transpose the song (she starts a semitone lower than the original) and then sing in completely different modulations that she can't have known beforehand about this alternative arrangement. A true singer
Wow wow wow! I'm a Whitney fan and I never really put my heart into listening to Celine before, and WOWWWW she took this song to a whole another level! No shade to Barbra, but Celine's melody interpretation made this song a lot better in my opinion. The last verse, she took it UP! SING CELINE!

You got it mixed up. "Tell Him" was the result of Barbra experiencing Celine's rendition of "I Finally Found Someone" at the Oscars.

Go ahead and hate Celine (for whatever reason) as much as you feel the need to, but at least use just a bit of maturity and judge the performance, not the person performing!
