    I'd like to hear about how a starting pitcher prepares on game day. How many throws and about how much time from the time they throw the first ball of the day to when they throw the first pitch.

      When I start I usually start by stretching my arm a lot then I just lightly thro and then I start to warm up pitching. I start by doing my winding and everything but not actually pitching fast. Then I will warm up and actually pitch but only a few. And then the game starts

    My college coach was a firm believer in running to prevent arm soreness. Starters got in a good 30 minute run the next day after a start. You are definitely right about conditioning your arm. I got arm soreness once, during fall ball. I didn't throw all summer so arm was def not conditioned. I never iced in HS or college, and my arm was fine.

      cy_young_9 I also highly believe in running after throwing. Going from extreme blood flow to sitting doing nothing obviously will make your arm sore usually 12 foul poles do really good. Iv never been sore after that. And I'm a pitching coach and I always highly recommend that and never once lost a player because of an arm injury.

    • @cy_young_9104
      @cy_young_9104 7 років тому +1

      GoproZack yeah for sure. We always ran after pitching off the mound. 10 poles after bullpens and right after each start. Then the 30 minutes the next day after every start. It definitely does help. I thankfully never had any arm problems. But in HS our coach didn't make us run at all during the season. Never had arm problems, but I did throw 30+ less innings in HS than college, and we had to ice after the game.

    I would love a video talking about failure and how to deal with failure. I don't understand how to overcome this. For me it's my biggest issue. If I get a hit my first ab my whole team and coach know it's going to be a good game for me. But if I don't oh boy I will do awful. But I have my greatest game when I accept failure. It's wierd saying it but i have my great games when I don't care if I don't get a hit or if I struck out. Am I making sense here? Anyway it would be great if you could make a video talking about failure and learn how to accept it. Would like to know what professional coaches say about failure. It would really help me out. Thx for the videos dude! Keep them coming.

    I know it's a bit of a touchy topic but being that you can't be suspended due to weed in the mlb is it true that tons of players smoke weed like I read online. Or are teams against it even tho you can't be suspended for it. Totally understand if you can't make a video about this. Keep up the great work!

    I've been waiting for this video, or apparently I just found it since it's been out for a while. I am an ex-Chiropractor that had 4 subscapularis tendon operations after my Dad fell in the stairs. There was also a medical error after the first operation so the tendon is fucked. And I kept working but had to change my work techniques, and now I don't manipulate anymore, but I still see patients. Due to my injuries and my MANY consultations with Europe's top shoulder specialists, and with talking with many therapists in Europe, the shoulder is a difficult articulation to treat. I thought that America would be more advanced, but you didn't mention the subscapularis muscle to explain your pec tightness. So maybe I shouldn't put America on a pedestal. I have a technique to treat the muscle, but it requires strong hands. I didn't have the strength when I started in 2008, but I kept at it and now have enough strength to perform the technique. I tried to show PT's, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, and massage therapists and no one has persevered. BTW, it is the same technique that veterinarians use when a cow's ovaries are twisted. They have to learn it during their schooling, those that can strengthen their hands go work on farms, the others stay in town.
    If anybody passes by in Switzerland with chronic shoulder pain, drop me a comment.

    What's said between managers and Umps when things get heated? Does a manager trying to get kicked out actually work as an effective strategy to rally a team?

  • @cjr1881

    Exactly. That is when my arm would get sore. Beginning of the season. And then I kept abusing it because I had practice every day. I bet players that live in cold climates have the majority of arm soreness by not throwing all year round.

It hurts to throw the ball. How can I stop this from happening? By the end of the practice I couldn’t throw anymore it hurt so bad.

      I feel it typically has to do with your throwing action that is placing stress on the shoulder. I am not an expert, but there are ways to fix it by cleaning up the throwing action. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Matt! I am a third baseman with decent range but whenever I go for a ball where I have to dive a never seem to get them. I think I just dive over them and the ball goes under my glove or my arm. And whenever I do luckily get a ball when I dive I never get a good throw off. Could you please do a video about divin and how to do it properly and then after u get the ball getting back up and throwing? It would help a lot thanks.

    I wish I had these videos when I was in high school. I was a 3 sport athlete with a "major" in baseball and was a pitcher. I noticed my freshman year I would throw a few innings and try to raise it parallel to the ground and my hand started shaking uncontrollably . By my senior year it would do that after 1 inning. Still throwing low to mid 80's. When I first would start playing catch, I'd take it easy trying to work it up and that still didn't help. Now, if I make ONE hard throw, I can barely raise my hand for a couple days. You think there's something wrong? I actually had Jerry Augustine see me pitch and said my mechanics were pretty good and all I had to do was drop my glove about 6" to help prevent me from opening up too soon. I absolutely love your advise and videos.

    Do you know if compression sleeves and kinesiology tape help with arm soreness.

    • @lawrencetaylor4101
      @lawrencetaylor4101 5 років тому

      I never liked tape on my skin and so I didn't like putting it on my patients. I have to work with a FURS (Fucked Up Right Shoulder) for over 20 years and use a compression brace which helps me. Most of it is psychological but that doesn't matter. By having compression on the skin helps the mechanoreceptors remain stimulated so it maintains a heightened tonus on the muscles.

  • @lawrencetaylor4101
    @lawrencetaylor4101 5 років тому

    As far as heat and ice are concerned, I believe more in ice, especially if it is a tendon problem, and since you are baseball players, your tendons are always inflamed. But you should put the ice in the right place. Touch the top of your shoulder, both in front and behind. This is where the tendons are and that is where the ice should go. If you arm is sore lower down, that could be a referred pain coming from the shoulder. Don't put ice directly on the skin, in a towel. Put it on for 15 minutes, take it off for 45 minutes, then another 15 minutes.

    So to sum up, I couldn't play at all this season. So now gonna be a little odd at school
