Thank you for your concise yet detailed videos! I have watched about6 separate videos on this topic and was not hearing anything because I had not selected the recording buffer! It was like a light from heaven when I finally heard something!
It certainly seems that way but off camera and without having to narrate what I do, it's a faster experience. But there's an initial learning curve for sure, especially for someone coming from software.
As an OT MK2 user its crazy how there isn't a shortcut button for things like the Metronome on the MK1. The added buttons really do help a lot to remove tedium with this device.
FANTASTIC video; I love your style, especially how you describe every step of the process. I’m excited to check out the rest of your octatrack videos. This was exactly what I was looking for as I was struggling to grok the octatrack’s implementation of time stretching.
i realy appreciate that they made an mk2 version. i cursed the mk1 so often for that millions of shortcuts you had to remember. since i got the mk2 i realy love to work with it.
@@Mamotreco Please do - I don't mind the hour long videos you see on the OT, but if I just want to learn a few things by following along it needs the right balance of pace and info and you have that covered.
i didn’t know what I was doing at first and replace “recorder buffer 1” with a sample on my CF card. Once I realized I should have used the slots, I couldn’t figure out how to get recorder buffer 1 back ? Can you do that?
after 4 years of octatrack, i still do not know how to change the "16s" on the right bottom of the screen... and sometimes a ":(" is on a recording track - without any explanation... and record memory is full, after 4 bars of recording... but i don't give up.
muy bien explicado..(algo de ingles comprendo..jaja pero en español molaria mas !) gracias nuevamente por tomarte el tiempo de grabar y explicar el paso a paso..
My OT timestretches automatically. Theres no need to go through these steps. Looking at your settings im struggling to understand why you're having to do it.
Agreed. This just happens automatically in mine as well. If I had to do what this video shows, for every loop, I would sell the octatrack yesterday lol. That would be such a workflow killer. Not understanding why he's having to do this??
In this video, the recorded samples get the tempo of the project. But I would like to sample for instance 1 or two bars and let the Octatrack determin the tempo of that sample. How can that be done? By the way, thanks for the video. I think the Octatrack's manual is nice for keeping a fire going, other than that, it's useless. The manual assumes that you know all the terminology of sampling and is just stating facts of what a buttons does. But it fails to give you methods or examples on how things can be done or what you can actually do with it. I have this device now for a couple of years. It has been powered on for maybe 4 hours in total. I almost gave up on it. I only got a few things working by duplicating stuff on youtube. I fail to see the logic or workflow of this device. It's like only technicians, not musicians should use it.
The Octatrack is definitely quite the taskmaster and yes it's workflow doesn't make sense at least initially and it forces you to adapt yourself for it. I don't have the OT in front of me so I'm not sure how to do that. I would recommend, checking the forums or Merlin's PDF manual for the Octatrack.

hey nice tutorial! but one question, if I just down a sample loop from online, and don't know it's bpm, but sure want to use it for 2 bars in my project. So I need to use this way to time stretch it to fit to my project?
I don't have access to the Octatrack right now. For me, cropping the sample to the loop I wanted and then adjusting by ear the bpm until the timing matched is what I did (remembering from memory)
Thanks very much for posting this tutorial!! Very helpful. I like the way you explain what you are doing. It makes it very easy to follow what you are doing! You should do more Octatrack tutorials :)

Thank you so much! Happy to hear you sorted it out
Wow! That was a huge amount of work and button pressing combinations to achieve something so basic.

check other comments on the video, there are many shortcuts to make all of this 10 times faster ;)
Tonje Aasulfsen yeah this is the hardest way to do it in the ot there are many easier methods

Very goood point. Either way you learn to live with it.
yes there is!! Cue + Tempo is quick on/off Metronome :) hope it still helps after all these years lol
Best, easiest to understand tutorial on sampling with this machine . Thank you 🙏
Thank you! Yeah once you get the hang of it, the sampling functionality is very decent on the Octatrack
amazing I was looking for this video for last 2 years!
Glad you found it!

Also to switch off the metronome you don't need to do this . It is much more simple : just press FUNTION + TEMPO to switch it ON or OFF !
I think it's CUE + TEMPO
@@robindoermann thanks!
This video is terrific; thank you. Looking forward to checking out the rest.

Thanks for the very good description of the workflow.
Thank you for watching!
Very good - you made this so simple and clear.
Thank you for the comment. Glad it was of use. Hope to make more Octatrack videos these next few months

Or highlight a bar and use the "calculate him from selection"
miles easier and quicker

Cue and tempo buttons pressed together toggle on and off the metronome - once you have it set up

Possibly because of the OS version.

Thank you! I will continue to make them.
you can stretch the sample out to the point where it fits the bpm of the octa right?
Yes you can. I do it by playing with the sample bpm and trim points.
