John Stewart: Dreamers On The Rise

- The late singer/songwriter John Stewart performs what his cadre of most committed fans voted as their favorite of his more than five hundred songs. "Dreamers On The Rise" was written in the 1980s as Stewart reflected back on his time in 1968 as the official musician for the campaign for the presidency of Robert F. Kennedy, whose death (as well as President Kennedy's) Stewart alludes to in the song. The nostalgia for a time of great idealism and the gentle melancholy of the lyrics make "Dreamers" a signature Stewart song. This performance was recorded in Scottsdale, Arizona in August of 2002.
John, wherever you are, the winds carrying you everywhere we dont know but only imagine, you are loved. Young, middle and old, loved all the way through.
Thank you for posting this perfect song!
One of my favorite songs. It is really underrated
CompVid101 -- If you were a headlight on a westbound train you couldn't do a better job of lifting up my spirits on this melancholy day. Of all artists, John Stewart's impact on many of us remains singularly enduring. Your love of this heavenly music touches others through this medium. Enormous gratitude from Waterford, Michigan.
such a beautiful song...typical of Stewart :) Thanks so much!
ComVid101: Thanks for posting this terribly beautiful song. I heard it in the "Hot Dog" movie, and was so happy to find it online. I can understand why it was considered most favorite by his fans :) I can't believe this musician does not have more recognition. I am a new-comer to this song, but already it is very meaningful to me. Thanks :)
Bobby is still listening this song...
Thanks for posting.
Thank you for the upload.
Thanks to all of the commenters who may stop by years after posting. CompVid101 is one of several of my YT channels, and policy changes relating to Google+ accounts have prevented me from commenting for quite some time until very recently. Stewart's several studio recordings are gems (especially the very first with harmony by John's former Kingston Trio bandmatre Nick Reynolds), but for those who miss Stewart's live performances or who never had the chance to see him in concert, this video shot by JS friend and business associate Paul Rybolt in 2002 is priceless.
John's music will live forever!
I've loved this song since I heard a cover of it in 1982, but this is the first time I've heard/seen Stewart perform it. Thank you so much for posting this!
I've been trying to work out what tuning this is in. I think it may be dropped D, any suggestions?
Hi! Big thanks for the tip, John Birchler's is a great version. I'll keep working on it.
Harkin Banks sang it the best. ;)
