I was 13 when this movie came out & was beginning my bump comp career (so to speak). This movie was worn out at my house...I still ski to this day, I'm a ski instructor now. Best ski movie ever made!
I felt that way the first time I watched "Aspen Extreme" and "Just The Way You Are" . I LOVE those movies! Those movies still inspire me to this day. I watch them every year, at the beginning of every ski season to put me in the mood. I bought my first pair of 'Rossi's', because of that movie, and bought several since. I've never seen this movie, 'HOTDOG', but it looks great! I'm going to look for it online, and buy it. There's just something about 80's movies, that evoke a certain feeling within you. 😄
In Hotdog Movie, a kickass Blaster is a tripple back flip with 1 full twist. These days, the best ski jumpers on the freestyle worldcup are doing tripple back with 4 full twist.
The "German" actor you're referring to isn't German and he isn't dead, either. He's John Reger (from Minneapolis) and he's currently a news anchor for KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, California.
Actually it's "Hold On" by Clif Magness. "Top Of The Hill", also by Clif Magness, is the song at the very beginning of the movie...during the opening credits. I think there are a few clips of it floating around.
This was the first event that I competed in when I was on the Eldora Freestyle Team. I used Casino Royale by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. I later used Whistle Stop from Walt Disney’s Robin Hood. Lots of fun.
This movie had the Chinese downhill and the line Sunny side up, Sunny side down and Sunny side all the vaved around. I think the bad guy in the movie was talking about Shannon Tweed
Hot Dog The Movie on DVD? You jest with our minds! A home made copy no doubt. The only copy of the movie I have is an ex-rental on VCR. The German Actor is dead by the way. Sad, as I would have loved to see him is a sequel.
@grl8862 German? John Patrick Reger was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. AND....He would be shocked to know that he has died!! He is a news anchor in California.
@hatleymark He's alive?! That's the best news I've had since Jeff Goldblum was mis-reported to have died after falling off a mountain in New Zealand. And John's an American! You've made my year! It was listed on the IMDB web site that he had had died 10 years ago. But you check their web site now, there's not mention of it. So ladies you know what this means... Hot Dog 2 - The Sequel!!!!!! yeh baby yeh!
@raycyr Thank you raycyr for setting me straight, there is a God! I gave up looking for a DVD of Hot Dog the Movie 6 years ago. But wait, they sell it only as DVD Region 1 ? Nooooo! Who region protects a 20 year old movie??? And Studios wonder why people pirate DVD's. If you're going to release a movie, make sure it's all regions, otherwise you may as well be saying to the other half of the planet, Pirate it!, we double triple dare you with icing and a big fat juicy red cherry on top!
@grl8862 John Patrick Reger is most certainly not dead! He was a news anchor on TV in South Dakota for a while and is now on KSBY in California. ksby.com/pages/john-reger/
to be honest this is pretty cool what they can do but i see why snowboarders back in the day thought all skiers were gay. and im a skier saying this too. but no hate towards these guys

I was even totally unaware that "ski movie" was even a genre of film.

What's the difference between a large pizza and ski instructor?...A large pizza can feed a family of 4! 🤣. My ski instructor buddy told me that one. 😄
music is awesome I never forgot these tunes and the classic lines! I was in love with Sylvia at the age of 8 lol thank you 80s cinema
Wish they would release score tracks by Peter Bernstein (late Elmer Bernstein’s son).
Awesome movie. Terrific scene. Great score. “Luck, I don’t need luck” -Rudi Garmisch. Thanks for the post.

Wonder what kind of wax they used...on their bikini line.
Ah... they cut off pelting the judges with snowballs... lol ... loved this film.
That´s just great! Congrats to Pete Markle and Mike Marvin from a fan of the movie in the south of Brazil.
Top 5 UA-cam post for me. Key moment in the movie. Mike Marvin’s masterpiece.
Tony Keown , what a souvenir!
Those were the days!!

This movie had the Chinese downhill and the line Sunny side up, Sunny side down and Sunny side all the vaved around. I think the bad guy in the movie was talking about Shannon Tweed

If anyone knows the name of the 1st song on this scene, let me know. The synthesizer song. It's not on the movie credits.
Bring back ballet
Why isn't this a thing anymore?
Because it was crap
@Cyro Lacorte Are you kidding me? This stuff was hardcore. I just saw Jonny Moseley doing a couple routines at Squaw today.
@howardb42006
It use to be called, the "Ballet" event. In the 90', it 's been change for Acrocki.
@grl8862
Well i found the DVD last Winter on Amazon. Those sequences are from that DVD.

Not that I'm aware of. I looked years ago!
