  • You’ve probably heard it a thousand times: The AK can’t hit the broad side of a barn. But why? Well today I go into a few of the reasons people tend to think AK’s aren’t as accurate as their peers, and ways you can fix that.
    ----
    About Me
    My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
    I've started to dedicate this UA-cam channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
    Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

    ok for 7.62x39 as a caliber, biggest issue is that it goes subsonic and hits that transonic threshold around 550ish yards. so, trying to shoot that caliber farther than that isnt really viable. however, it should easily be able to hit point targets out to 500 yards. also ammunition choice is important. tula, is not going to group like hornady. as a slightly unrelated aside, ive shot my ak74 out to 400 with open sights and it worked fantastically. so the platform is solid. my biggest gripe about an AK is that i cant build one with a wrench like i can an AR. because if i could i totally would.

      Of course the 7.62x39 drops velocity fairly fast, its a big heavy bullet in a shell casing with barely enough propellant out of a barrel barely long enough to let enough gas build up.
      Which is why the old NATO 7.62x51 made a better sniper round and a great lmg round, but was a bit much for assault rifles(ask the poor Brits who were stuck with the FN FAL) and thus the U.S. picked the 5.56...
      Or at least that's how I've come to understand it.

      @@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 7.62x39 isnt standard issue calibre anymore i dont think, pretty sure its 5.45 now because of the reason you stated, 7.62x39 is great but that round was literally mimiced off the 7.92 kurz round, Kalshnikov took a 54r round and and necked it down to a x39 and it performed well enough to be mass produced, then vietnam happened and it was good BUT THEN Afghanistan happened and they realized its not good enough, times changed and wars and battles are fought further away with small arms so they swapped to flatter shooting 5.45 without losing the lethality of the weapon.
      Basically AK platform is 70+ years old now, if it sucked wed have no modern AKs.

    • @xmm-cf5eg
      @xmm-cf5eg 5 років тому +8

      @Dorian Vujica
      Kalashnikov did not "neck down a 7.62x54R" round, the 7.62x39mm round was first invented for a few weapon prototypes, including the RPD machine gun in 1943, hence the designation "m43" existing for 7.62x39mm.
      Kalash had nothing to do with inventing the intermediate rifle round the soviets adopted, he just made a gun that used it. That's like saying the designer of the Glock invented 9x19 Luger because his gun fired it.

    Rifle platforms were designed with specific purposes in mind. When you understand what these purposes are you understand what the rifle can do. The AK was intended to be a general purpose battle rifle for the average guy with average accuracy inside of moderate distances. Pushing an AK out to 600 yards with DMR accuracy is simply not what the platform or caliber was designed for. If you employ the rifle in its designed parameters you will find that it does the job very well. I tell people if they wanna shoot at 600 yards or further with a semi-auto look at something else because the AK is not it. AK's are great for what they were intended for just like Ruger 10/22s are great for what they are intended for.

    Barrel harmonics matters a lot, when you fire it acts like a plucked guitar string with the end of the barrel acting as the vibrational node on typical rifles. The gas block placement on the AK is like putting your finger on the string, changing the vibration exactly the same as it would a guitar string. The only way to eliminate barrel harmonics is with a specially structured barrel.

    Pratice is key i have an old AK passed down. You are 100% correct when it comes too build quality ive shot my old one and then a newer ak such as a century arms that my buddy has I can barely hold a few inches MOA at 100 yards. Pratice and build quality are at upmost importance. Yeah you only paid 500$ but was that a worthy 500$?

    I thought I was all bought up on AK's then this guy named Brandon came out with the AKG 47. It's supposed to be very well put together and now I want one. LOL just tell me are you planning on building any milled ones in the future? I only ask this because I don't want to buy the stamped one and think I'm done and then you come out with a milled one and I have to have it too haha.

      Brandon Herrera you'll start building a milled receiver version about a month after I get the stamped one with the nicer wood furniture. Lol

    • @DementedDoom

      I have a Sam7R from arsenal. I enjoyed the milled receiver, the fit and finish. But I'm miffed about aftermarket options.
      It has a side rail to mount an optic, but once mounted the cheek weld becomes a chin weld.
      Because it's milled aftermarket inline stocks are hard to get.
      I reacted harshly to making to mistake of buying an IO AK and jumped to the other side of the price point. It's a solid gun by itself though.

    The REAL #1 reason people think AKs aren't accurate... they have seen too many movies where desert dwelling douches shoot 10,000 rounds, and don't hit chit!

    • @toastoncheese4348

      I think alot of reasons are also because games like Call of Duty have the AK as the powerful but slow, inaccurate gun and the M16 as accurate but low fire rate gun.

    been watching a lot of your videos recently as i only found you recently. I love this video. I love that you talk about the barrel harmonics because no one, not one unless they have actually shot long distance understand what a free float barrel can do vs how the traditional ak and its crap that gets attached to the barrel makes it less accurate. could you make a video about an ak that is purpose made for accurate shots still using the 7.62 x 39 calibre? im not saying the one you did with the valk caliber you posted a few days ago. i am saying take a cheap lets say psak 47 gf3 or something and just take off the unecesairy stuff like the cleaning rod and things like that out so that you can make it as accurate as possible lol

      WImob420 yeah Ive always just loved the look, function and sound of AKs more too, I was just confused with the range of AK47s there were at first only having handguns, and the AR seemed easier to grasp, but Im definitely going AK, and ive always been a bigger caliber guy so I feel ill have much more fun shooting it once I pick one up, just gotta figure out what to buy now 😂

    This is a year old now so you probably won't see this but I've been shopping around for my first AK. I have been trying to get an idea of which brands/guns are good and which ones will rip me off. I think now that since I have seen you speak intelligently on the platform and more importantly, with passion, I will probably buy an AKG 47. The price is more than say a Century Arms MAR10, but the passion and intelligence behind the weapon make it worth the extra money.
