It has been about a year when I stumbled upon this video on your channel. It has also been a year since I started play Mega Man. I am glad I found your channel and hope you continue to make your videos awesome!!
I can safely say that you can jump over the Pengs and Killer Bullets during that stream section! It pays to do so if you're doing a no-buster run, but any other time it's more worth shooting them - gotta take the drops where you can get them! Also, the sprite flicker probably wasn't a recording issue - MM1 had seriously bad flicker problems, especially in this boss and Wily.
The Wily Wars version, you'd think it would be harder because Mega Man is larger on the screen...but the fact that the bubbles always follow the screen edge, and that there is NO GODDAMN SPRITE FLICKER, makes it SO much better. Seriously, when you can't see enemy shots it's a real pain!
That looks so easy in comparison. But mainly, the lack of RNG is what I feel makes the fight easier. No matter where you stand, there's a 1-in-3 chance you're getting hit at the minimum. You cannot POSSIBLY move quick enough to avoid the top one if you stand in the left corner, and if you stand in the right, oh better pray to Saint Nick the one on the *LEFT* doesn't come out. You will actually die in the fight if the RNG hates you enough.
If you shoot towards spaces where the bubbles could come from they are likely to choose the other entrance. It's a strategy I use in speed runs. When you stand on the blocks and repeatedly shoot left and right it will always come out the ceiling.
Man, it's so cool to see that other people still watch these perfect runs years after their upload. They're great classic favourites of mine that need more attention. But wow. First we get two luck-based/difficult stages with an easy boss, and then the third is the complete opposite...
well im coming and watching these for the first time 11 years later if that helps i saw roham's mega man 2 runs a few years back but im binging the megaman 1 series now
In the chronological order of the Mega Man series, yes. If you're going by the order that Roahm has actually completed the fortress stages, he's already had to deal with the Bue Beam Trap and Wily Machine 2 in Mega Man 2.
@IceKiller159 : Highly doubtful. For one thing, I still don't even really want to think about doing another BN project just yet. I'll do them eventually, but I want to stick to shorter projects for awhile and have a more productive year or two than the last one was. Second, by the time I finish BN 4 - 6, I doubt I'll feel like LPing essentially another three of them. ->
@BigKlingy : I think in Powered Up, Thunder Beam just stuns it but doesn't do that much damage to it. I'm pretty sure in both, the weakness is Super Arm. I know in the original, it kills a bubble in one hit, but the catch is you only get four boxes to throw at it. Best saved for the last few. In Powered Up, I believe it occasionally drops boxes for you to throw.
@HeyWheresKel : Basically either side that you pick as your base of operations, you have a one out of three chance at a bubble in the end moving too fast to really react to. If you're on the left, you're safe as long as it doesn't come from the top. If you're on the right, you're good as long as it doesn't come from the left.
Oof, I feel your pain on this one. It took me many, many tries to finally get CWU-01P down buster only. Easily the hardest boss in the game with the mega buster.
Hmm, good point. Maybe you should try standing on the very rightmost edge of the top block? If a bubble appears out of the right gate, you can make a quick bunny hop to the left to avoid it. If one appears from the top, you can step off of the edge and onto the rightmost block and just let gravity do the work. It would be all about reaction time then. This should work in theory, but I'm away from home and don't have my copy of Mega Man 1 on me, so I can't test this myself.
You'd be surprised how much better an experience Wily Wars becomes at a stable frame rate. Pity only 1/3 MegaDrive emulators actually fix that problem... and that the slow down is retained in physical copies. All process and no blast, you could say. XD
I'm so glad I started watching you again... It's been way too long, these Wily videos are really entertaining~ Now watching through Street Fighter X Mega Man. Very nice stuff Regardless, very good job with SCP-173 or whatever his name is. :D
Poor Roahm... at least you persevered, and never have to look back upon this challenge again. That alone is prize enough. It wore you down so much, even your "Fare Thee Well" at the end sounded a bit off. Or is that just me?
Hey Roahm, I've been watching your vids for a long time and you have inspired me to make a lets play of my own. Any suggestions for someone who doesn't have the equipment for commentary and who doesn't want spam each video with explanatory annotations?
Check out the boss's life bar. It switches to the color of the flashing light on each of the bubbles- and changes to the next as soon as you kill the onscreen bubble.
@hypnometal : I can actually say Quick Man is a reaction based battle as well, a really TOUGH one, but reaction based all the same. Someone with better reflexes than I could probably deal with Quick Man without as much trouble. And I'd love to see it, I'd be impressed.
@Doommood15 : I have fought him during the Powered Up Challenge Mode vids, but I'll likely eventually be Perfect Running the Powered Up fortress stages too.
@DriveInTake : I may do them eventually, I'm a bit iffy on IV though due to Bright Man. The health bar trick does not work on him there, so it doesn't really incline me to wanting to do that fight.
Funny how thia just showed up in my new vids while I was re-watching your old perfect runs. (8 and 9 to be precice) This makes me want to go back and watch you fight this boss in Powered Up (you did a few times in the boss rush challenges), where I remember it being VERY different. I half expected you to get some sweet Thunder-Beamy Revenge on this thing. Or is that not his weakness in the original?
@Cobalt Kirikizan : Ahh, okay, gotcha. I was more talking just not liking the overall motif of the game, but yeah, hadn't realized what I said at that specific time ^_^;
In Mega Man, if you shoot too fast, it won't register some hits. Turbo is too fast, especially if the enemy is approaching. His bubbles can be destroyed much quicker with good mashing.
Yeah, I've noticed that one. Bright Man on IV is one of those very rare bosses I very much dislike fighting without a weakness. It's a shame too, IV was probably the best of the first four Game Boy games.
@googgood : Um..... well it's not like I can artificially extend the stage somehow? I work with what I'm given, and in this case it was a short stage with an annoying boss that all comes down to luck ^_^;
@Tom0027X : It may be possible, but a) I don't have the reflexes for it, kind of wonder if someone could verify if that works or not on the fastest ones, and b) if it comes from the top, you probably can't get out of the way in time.
Ah, somehow that totally slipped my mind. I even watched those recently, too. Also as a side note, in 95 you mention "The only time I've been able to do this boss buster only on the NES version is through copious amounts of save states." It feels like foreshadowing, in a way.
hey roham just wondering, did you attempt/record stage 3 since uploading stage 2? or did you have all of it recorded before you uploaded 1 and are just editing it
@ThatguycalledJoe : Considering it would have gave me problems, no. Unpausing you freezes you in place for a moment, so you'd have even less reaction time.
Roahm is the man! So persistent! i would have raised the white flag long ago xD Keep up the good work man! I looooove your videos! I'm glad there is someone in this world that likes megaman as much as me xP Im actually trying to perfect run MM6 (my favorite) because of you (: Oh i have a request if you dont mind! (No its not no damage drill man Omega) No Damage flamemans stage...backwards :p (you have to use the jet in very few parts but a dragons gotta do what a dragons gotta do!) Good Luck^^
Well, the problems with this stage turned up in the exact place I thought they would: with the boss. The stage itself, provided you pace yourself, you can just speed through with some quick dodging. It pales pales by comparison to CWU... what a tense boss to take on Buster Only. Why must Wily use RNGs in his early creations? D: Also, love the Peng/Bullet generator's confusion at that one point. And I can definitely agree on the Wily Wars comparison.
8:06 Besides the Genesis version of this game, why don't you also show difference as well with the Megaman Powered Up Old Style version, it is a lot slower, easy and predictable.
@FilterExel : Needle Man is tough, but is more a reaction battle. He's definitely hard, but he's the GOOD kind of hard, an actual challenge, not just luck based annoyance.
Oh... and the fun that will be had in King 3 >:) ... How about Burner Man and Tengu man in one run? >:D ... Okay, I shouldn't be that sadistic. But seriously, you are going to beat that. You are a perfect dragon and you do never mistakes. Those outtakes are on purpose!
You should take all your death clips and edit together the entire piece of boss fight music, flawlessly, that's a compilation of nothing but you taking hits. Kind of a mark of pride, really.
@kamikaze9699 : From my experiences in getting to the CWU-01P fight on there, I'm not actually sure some of it CAN be Perfect Run due to enemy placement.
+JindraAG Not really. That fight at least felt more skill based, but it's still not that fun honestly. The cramped space in particular, the little uses of Crash Bombs you have, how easy it is to screw up with using the items, it's not fun.
Blake That depends on your definition of difficult. If you mean "most likely to unavoidably hit you when using just the buster," then CWU-01P doesn't hold a candle to Wily Machine 2 or King Plane. Artificial difficulty for the win!
You know, it's ironic that the one Mega Man game that doesn't has water physics is the one game where you would wish that it was there, especially for the boss of this stage. I actually do wonder how hard would this fight of been if this game did have water physics in play...
@Michael van woerkom : Because it's an interesting challenge to undertake. I've played the Mega Man games so many times, I wanted to challenge myself with something different.
@IceKiller159 : (continued) I also just don't really like Starforce quite as much as Battle Network. I still do like it, I just feel like you aren't offered as many varied strategies due to the smaller playing field. And the final and most in-the-way reason? I can't really record DS footage anyway. The emulators don't work well on my system, and I don't want to mod my actual DS.
It definitely would've been a little easier if you could mash faster, though still completely unfair. The next stage isn't nearly as bad. The biggest concerns are the random nature of the Guts Man fight and the deceptively tough jump back onto the moving platform. Good luck!
It's been a while since I played it, so I don't remember the fortress stages in MM&B too well. I remember one thing, however. The stages by themselves are a pain, and the bosses... Yeah, I understand perfectly well.
An observation I've made:
Kamegoro Maker = CWU-01P
Yellow Devil Mark II = Goes without saying
Holograph Mega Mans = Copy Robot
Huh, there are some similarities there, yeah.
Inferior copies each.
Except Kamegoro Maker since CWU-01P is kinda forgettable but the turtles are cute. @@SwordHMX

that is what i figured after the few days wait, but its definitely worth the wait, you are the best perfect runner
If you shoot towards spaces where the bubbles could come from they are likely to choose the other entrance. It's a strategy I use in speed runs. When you stand on the blocks and repeatedly shoot left and right it will always come out the ceiling.
As I watch this and look at the date I realize just how long I've been following your channel. I remember seeing this when it was brand new.
Man, it's so cool to see that other people still watch these perfect runs years after their upload. They're great classic favourites of mine that need more attention.
But wow. First we get two luck-based/difficult stages with an easy boss, and then the third is the complete opposite...
And then he realized that this was uploaded just under three years ago...
Oh well, the point is that they're great and need more attention.
well im coming and watching these for the first time 11 years later if that helps
i saw roham's mega man 2 runs a few years back but im binging the megaman 1 series now
In the chronological order of the Mega Man series, yes. If you're going by the order that Roahm has actually completed the fortress stages, he's already had to deal with the Bue Beam Trap and Wily Machine 2 in Mega Man 2.
Rewatching these is always a treat

I love these outtakes they were too funny lol. Awesome job though, at least you did it and you don't have to worry about it anymore
Thats what i call professionalism
Amazing bro
So now I know why it took so long to get this one out after the first two came fairly quickly. This level was indeed a thing!
@BigKlingy : I think in Powered Up, Thunder Beam just stuns it but doesn't do that much damage to it. I'm pretty sure in both, the weakness is Super Arm. Oof, I feel your pain on this one. It took me many, many tries to finally get CWU-01P down buster only. Easily the hardest boss in the game with the mega buster.
Ironic how the shortest stage in the entire game gets the 10 rating?
Wasn't that kind of the case for Mega Man 2 as well (*coughs* Quick Man *coughs*)?
Richard Dong I forgot about Alien Wily didn't I? Oops.
Richard Dong Okay (I did read all of that by the way).
Hmm, good point. Maybe you should try standing on the very rightmost edge of the top block? If a bubble appears out of the right gate, you can make a quick bunny hop to the left to avoid it. Poor Roahm... at least you persevered, and never have to look back upon this challenge again. That alone is prize enough.
It wore you down so much, even your "Fare Thee Well" at the end sounded a bit off. Or is that just me?
You are amazing, Roahm :) Thank you for keeping up the hard work!
@DriveInTake : You can see in some of the later Challenge Mode videos from when I played Powered Up ;)
@FatherOfGray : The problem there is if the bubble comes from the right, especially the faster ones.
These are gonna be some funny outtakes.
RNG works via a number somewhere else in the game put into an algorithmic string, so something you do probab
@hypnometal : I can actually say Quick Man is a reaction based battle as well, a really TOUGH one, but reaction based all the same. Someone with better reflexes than I could probably deal with Quick Man without as much trouble. And I'd love to see it, I'd be impressed.
Love the way the bosses energy bar matches the color of its eye as the battle progresses. From blue to pink to red.
given the fact that this stage was so short you should name this part "mega man 1- Dr.Wily stage 3 shenanigans!"
@Doommood15 : I have fought him during the Powered Up Challenge Mode vids, but I'll likely eventually be Perfect Running the Powered Up fortress stages too.
@jetkirby : I'd basically been attempting stage 3 since uploading 2, it just takes awhile sometimes.
Must be glad its over, huh? Just...wow, that fight can get hectic! It must be a pain to commentate on it over and over again too. Good work as always!
(8 and 9 to be precice)

I don't suppose you can stand on the Guts blocks and jump over the boss if it comes from the left or right.
I could be mistaken, but I think this video has your longest outtake reel for any perfect run.
@X1josch1X : Basically just the fact that it's such a short stage, it made it less annoying, somewhat at least.
@Cobalt Kirikizan : Ahh, okay, gotcha. I was more talking just not liking the overall motif of the game, but yeah, hadn't realized what I said at that specific time ^_^;
In Mega Man, if you shoot too fast, it won't register some hits. Turbo is too fast, especially if the enemy is approaching. His bubbles can be destroyed much quicker with good mashing.
I hope you like the tast of Blue Shell! Oh, wait, wrong game.
5:36 Roahm, have you ever played a game called Binding of Isaac, 'cause I'm suddenly getting the idea that'd be right up your alley!
Yeah, I've noticed that one. Bright Man on IV is one of those very rare bosses I very much dislike fighting without a weakness. It's a shame too, IV was probably the best of the first four Game Boy games.
@googgood : Um..... well it's not like I can artificially extend the stage somehow? I work with what I'm given, and in this case it was a short stage with an annoying boss that all comes down to luck ^_^;
Hey Roahm why do you never move after you've been hit? Do you controls lock up because of your rules or something, or do you just "ragequit"?
@Tom0027X : It may be possible, but a) I don't have the reflexes for it, kind of wonder if someone could verify if that works or not on the fastest ones, and b) if it comes from the top, you probably can't get out of the way in time.
It seams Anna was not kind to you this day Roahm.
Ah, somehow that totally slipped my mind. I even watched those recently, too.
Also as a side note, in 95 you mention "The only time I've been able to do this boss buster only on the NES version is through copious amounts of save states."

hey roham just wondering, did you attempt/record stage 3 since uploading stage 2? or did you have all of it recorded before you uploaded 1 and are just editing it
@vichycatalan : Perhaps eventually? We'll see. I'm really not keen on IV due to Bright Man there being completely luck based.
Roahm when you finish playing all the BN games will you play the star force ones?
Okay so if youre going to do all the fortress stages i have a question HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU GOING TO DO KING STAGE 2 IN MM&B
Just what I wanted to see thank you Roahm!
@FilterExel : Needle Man is tough, but is more a reaction battle. He's definitely hard, but he's the GOOD kind of hard, an actual challenge, not just luck based annoyance.
@David Montoya : Yes, on the emulated games, I make a save state at the start of the fortress stage I'm currently working on.
It's really weird how... static and slow the genesis version seems to be. Way to bloastprocess guys!!
@RedGuyGaming : I reload the save state I have at the start of the stage I'm trying to Perfect Run.
Oh... and the fun that will be had in King 3 >:)
...
How about Burner Man and Tengu man in one run? >:D
...
Okay, I shouldn't be that sadistic.
But seriously, you are going to beat that. You are a perfect dragon and you do never mistakes.
Those outtakes are on purpose!
Are you going to perfect run the boss rush stages as well...?!
I love your work!
@OrkTv : My rules are that I'm not allowed to take damage, so getting hit is essentially a failure, so I end recording and try again.
Which one would you say you were happier to finally get it over and done with, this fight or Elec Man?
@marcelodiedara : I've heard it's kind of bad from Shagg to be honest.
I'm guessing using a Celebi or Dialga to timestop CWU-O1P wouldn't even work because of invulnerability frames.
oh cool the bullet generators also shoot out missing no.s cousin XD
So from what I can tell, the bottom left of the boss room gives the best strategic advantage?
Wow. I always just take hits, so I never realized just how annoying this stage is for a perfect runner like you.
@OrkTv : I do plan to do the other fortress stages, yes. It's going to be a "between projects" sort of thing.
Huh, I never noticed that the boss's life bar changes color depending on which bubble you fight.
@yuman3 : Haha, depends on how long I'm stuck on the stage.
CWU-O1P is probably the most difficult boss in the classic series. Luck and Megaman don't mix
+James (Dead Account) Actually, I'd still say there are much worse things than CWU-O1P (that doesn't mean CWU-O1P is not hard).
+Curiosity Man Does the Buebeam Trap count?
+JindraAG Not really. That fight at least felt more skill based, but it's still not that fun honestly. The cramped space in particular, the little uses of Crash Bombs you have, how easy it is to screw up with using the items, it's not fun.
Then it's not hard. It's cheap and frustrating.
Blake That depends on your definition of difficult. If you mean "most likely to unavoidably hit you when using just the buster," then CWU-01P doesn't hold a candle to Wily Machine 2 or King Plane. Artificial difficulty for the win!
couldn't help but notice in the second batch of outtakes more than half of them were caused by invisible bubbles
roahm, you need a Sanity Effect like the "all Selections are Quickman Stages" in your next Video!
Would you say the same about Quick Man?
GODDAMMIT!
IF I KNEW IT ONLY TAKES 10 SHOTS TO KILL IT I WOULDNT BE SUFFERING FIGURING OUT A WEAPON
Nothing like garbled Pengs to lighten up the mood, eh?
Oh, well that's a thing then. Thanks for letting me know.
As far as luck based bosses are concerned, do you rate this boss harder or easier than Needle Man was?
@Aurorosthebest : Technically, I did that at the start of the Wood Man video long ago before I even knew about Eternal Darkness ^_^;
You know, it's ironic that the one Mega Man game that doesn't has water physics is the one game where you would wish that it was there, especially for the boss of this stage. I actually do wonder how hard would this fight of been if this game did have water physics in play...
+KitsuneHaru Yeah, I can only imagine that would have made things much easier.
Ice Man DOES have water in his stage, but this stage really should've also had it
this stage? I runs it. I jumps it. I shoots it. I even dodges it. The difficulty?
DENOUDDADEN!
@NeoZhinzo : I don't like doing post commentary, it feels less natural to me.
Wow... that fight against CW was... sexy.
you could ask that about any game on youtube
It definitely would've been a little easier if you could mash faster, though still completely unfair. The next stage isn't nearly as bad. The biggest concerns are the random nature of the Guts Man fight and the deceptively tough jump back onto the moving platform. Good luck!
now if only touhou had sprite limitations...
@Cobalt Kirikizan : From what I've seen of the game, I have no desire to play it. Not really my kind of thing honestly.
I’m so glad we’ve moved on from an era where sprite flickering doesn’t exist anymore.
It's been a while since I played it, so I don't remember the fortress stages in MM&B too well. I remember one thing, however. The stages by themselves are a pain, and the bosses... Yeah, I understand perfectly well.
@swordoftheheretic : Needle Man is more reaction based than luck based. It's not really a solid comparison.
